I started out with an Interface DAW combo called Vstudio 20 with Guitar tracks 4 designed by Roland and Cakewalk with BOSS effects . It was what Sonar was before it became Sonar . I paid and upgraded with each DAW since 2010 until it was eventually bought out by Bandlab and offered for free . I still use the same interface to this day and even still use the original Guitar Tracks 4 DAW that came with it specifically for recording through a DI box. I'm very happy with what Cakewalk has become and I love that I was able to grow with each step . These videos have been helping me immensely, thank you for these!!!!

Excellent speaker and presentations. An excellent teacher/professor is able to take complicated, technically professional concepts and explain to them so that a layperson can understand. Albert Einstein theorized and explained E = MC squared quite well and most people (90-95%) of the world population cannot do the math, including myself. However, we do understand the concept. Well, you are able to do just that with your knowledge, ability, and talent. -Thank you!

Hi Mike and fellow Saucers! How about a Cakewalk Video on "Tips and Tricks?" It would be so valuable! For instance, after a couple of YEARS of struggling with LOW VOLUME ON EXPORTED MP3s from Cakewalk, I figured out how to fix that: I just click on a track, and then go to the top menu, where you have File, Edit, Inset, Process, Project, and a couple of others. Click on PROCESS>>APPLY EFFECT>>NORMALIZE. I realize now that by the WIDTH of the audio waveform, I can guess if the export MP3 (or any other file) is going to be adequate. The waveform needs to occupy around half or maybe two-thirds of the track. That's it! By the way, all I ever do with Cakewalk is to record karaoke/covers that I do at home. I use an EVO 8 for this: one microphone in input 1, then take audio out from my cellphone or Tablet into inputs 3&4. (Stereo 1/8 inch out to a split 1/4 inch cable/jacks). Other Audio interfaces like the Motu M4 have what are LINE LEVEL inputs which WILL NOT accept signals from cell phones. The EVO 8 puts out FOUR USB TRACKS which is awesome. Even the very latest Yamaha AG06 Mk2 Interface only sends out TWO USB channels/tracks.

I am another newbie doing a deep dive into Cakewalk. I still can't believe that this richly appointed DAW is free.. as well as your excellent tutorials. I am most happy to contribute to your tip jar. Your series is just what I needed. I tried out four DAWs before settling on Cakewalk. I was going to settle on Cubase LE, but I quickly learned that some major features around MIDI were missing, as well as decent plugins; the limited few they included are really crap (IMHO). Also, Cubase seemed to be more focused on loops and club music. To be fair this is a newbie opinion and I am sure the full version is great. I do have a question; where do you have your ear-phones connected in the flow? Mine are in the USB audio interface. when I set up my piano as a USB MIDI controller directly to the PC and recorded drums as in your previous video, when I went back to do sound-on-sound to add the hats and symbols the timing was way off. Quantize just made it worse. Lastly, as a guitar player I am very interested in editing my guitar tracks to "fix" mistakes. you touch on this a bit in this video, but perhaps you could go a bit deeper? Best, Steve.
@CreativeSauce
@CreativeSauce 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Steve - thanks I much for watching. I usually just use the headphone output on my interface, but I also have a headphone mixer for when I'm working with others. If your drum beats are way off on input, you may want to lower the buffer settings for you interface. Its hard for me to give specific instructions, as its different for each interface. If quantize isn't working well, you probably have the wrong settings. If the notes are further than they should be , you'll need to increase resolution. Use the 'Audition' button to see if its better. Certainly I will do a video on some more audio editing :) I hope that helps!

Really appreciate this from-the-ground-up approach, thanks! I find when I click on the Preferences > Playback and Recording and choose the ASIO that you recommend, I get "This driver is known to be incompatible with Cakewalk" and they suggest "a compatible ASIO or WASAPI Windows Driver." It then asks if i would like to switch to WASAPI. Is this recommended or should i look for another ASIO? Thanks so much! Also, i may not have picked it up, but being a total newbie, it would be nice to see the chronological order for all the episodes so i know which one is next.

Question, Mike! I'm a subscriber! 😄 Can I play a KZbin karaoke video on the same computer that Cakewalk is running on, and make a track for that sound source namely KZbin? Or for that matter, Windows Media Player? I just thought of this today. Your channel is superb! March 2021; no answers to the above. Ah, well. I figured it out. I set the computer audio out to loopback into the interface. Then, if I play an audio file or a KZbin video, the sound is clearly audible on a headset or speaker. And can record on a track, as long as I create an audio track and set the incoming audio to the same loopback that the computer itself is set to.

Great intro on recording audio! Love Cakewalk! I've stopped using Audacity! But one thing very nice about Audacity is the noise reduction. You allow maybe 10 seconds to go before recording, then select a 5 second clip, then allow it to get a feel of background noise and remove it. No such feature in Cakewalk that I have found. Anyone know? And oh, adjusting the volume of the tracks is far easier and more accurate without distortion in Cakewalk.

@@martintaunton126 thats very high. You will most likely get bad latency, but should not get any drop outs. David is correct, without the specifics it's hard to tell. However, I'm guessing that sample rate may be an issue. I would find out what sample rate you mic records at (likely to be 44.1 kHz), and then make sure your cakewalk project matches that.

I've made my first very basic recording with half a dozen tracks. So far so good! Yesterday, when I came out of Cakewalk everything was fine and I was able to play back the track, no problem. This morning when I switched on to do a bit more recording everything was still where it should be but when I try to play it back I'm getting no sound out of my laptop. Other audio files, mp3 etc, are playing fine through my speakers but I'm getting nada from my CakeWalk project. Nothing is muted and I can't see anything obvious that has been switched off. Any ideas?

Maybe you can help..If I duplicate a track and then I want to edit a portion in both tracks, how do I do both at once? I've tried everything (ctrl..alt..shift etc.) I could think of but end up having to do it twice. Can't find this info anywhere.

I'm new to this but like Cakewalk. I have a Yamaha E443 keyboard which I believe can hook up to the Cakewalk DAWS. However, although I have downloaded the drivers from Yamaha, when I try and use the keyboard, the Add Track - Audio says there is no audio. Some times I can get sound through the keyboard from tracks layed down from audio files, more often I can't. I have been on the Cakewalk site but there does not appear to be a link for posting queries, so hope you can help.

When I create an audio track exactly as you did there is no FX section. ??? Late Note: This is the kind of thing that trips up beginners. By default there is no FX bin in an audio track. You have to click on the "Workspace" button at the top of the track pane and select FX for the FX bin to be shown.

I had this same issue. I think it's in the top right corner but there's a section or drop down menu or right click toolbar but it can put cakewalk in "advanced" mode and then it'll show EVERYTHING that's on his screen. Cakewalk comes default in "basic mode" that has non of the stuff all the tutorials out to there are showing on their screen shots or vids. It should be lesson 1: put in advanced mode.

@@maynardcrow6447 I finally figured it out. I'm pretty sure Sonar had it set to All by default, which is why I was confused. I never had to set it to All before. I would suggest that Mike should mention it in his Cakewalk beginner videos.

Heya.. I have an important question.. I use a Presonus 192, seems you do too.. (and cakewalk.. for years).. I just recently detected a very weird artifact.. they presonus channels were crackling, and Cakewalk would have audio drop outs, and then quickly recover (something other daws don't always do in a drop out).. However, can you confirm this, and I have Not been able to find an answer anywhere; running the USB 3.0 from computer to the 192 creates crackling and drop outs.. but I had mine running thru a fully loaded USB 3.0 hub.. once I removed the USB 3.0 from the 192 and placed a direct connection to the computer, the noise/crackling (and I suspect the drop outs will not happen.. yet to test that.. ) Have you heard or know this issue? thank you.. confirmation would be really appreciated.. thanks M.. ;) Byl Oregon

Heya, I haven't had any issues and I'm on the latest firmware. However I don't use it with a hub. I did use with a hub at first, and had lots of issues, so I never went back. The only thing I use is a USB 3 extension cable. I would definitely try without the hub!

My recorded tracks from a cakewalk project suddenly jumped forward in the timeline not sure how. I can't go back to start because the tracks are not there but further ahead in the timeline. Also the feature that normally marks the start again to the marked place last stopped appears disabled. When I stop it does not go back to it. It must be easy enough to fix but I am just learning to record digitally with this product. Can someone help?
