1:14 1:48 DPDP - Duplicate, Pan, Delay, Pitch. 2:12 Duplication and panning. Right click > Duplicate Track. Tick Events and select repetition quantity. 3:02 Select the new tracks to send them to one bus, holding Ctrl, select New Stereo Bus as their output. Change colour of bus. 4:12 Set up the pan for the tracks. 4:50 Add small amount of delay to the duplicates so they don't all happen at the same time. Preferences > Customisation > Nudge. Set Nudge 1 absolute time to 10 millisecs and 24 for Nudge 2. 6:25 Press 3 and 6 on numpad to move it LATER, pressing 1 (and 4?) will move it earlier. 7:04 Add delays. 8:15 Listen test 8:48 Add pitch variation to duplicates using Groove Clip. In Properties panel, Groove Clip > Stretch to Tempo. Apply -3.0 value. And so on. 11:32 Blend the duplicates with the main vocal. Start with duplicates fader turned right down. 13:00 Vary it, play with delay times, and the pitch variation. Try on parts other than vocals. Make variations on EQs in the duplicates.

Mike, I tried your vocal thickening and it worked well. I add the differing EQs on each track as well. But I went a step further. I wanted to have a single vocal sound for the verses but wanted a "choir" effect for the chorus. So I routed all the duplicates to a VOX Dup bus and then used automation to have them come in and shine more during the chorus. Thanks so much buddy for the excellent content.

Very much appreciate what you for for Cakewalk. I was one of the original cakewalk users (in the old days!). I was doing some recording almost a couple years ago and then got off it. So I needed desperately to review and also learn some new tricks. Your videos are a Godsend. If I can't figure it out from watching your videos, then I don't need to do it! Thanks again.

This is a more complex version of something I have played with from time to time. My approach changed the length and thus the timing to mimic 'doubling', as you never sing (or play etc) the song 100% exactly the same no matter how good you are. I wasn't adding the pitch changes, so i want to try that. I also was not working with 4 pairs. Good info, even though i don't use Cake Walk, this approach will work in any DAW. I will definitely watch other videos for tips and tricks that are universal in general. Always a good day when I learn something new. - Cheers

Agree. One thing I hate about plug ins, is you get a million people sounding all the same. I hear it in Pop and 'New Country', where every record sounds like they all used the same 4 plugins. I hear a band live, and like them, then hear the record and I can't listen to it. - Cheers

Very good video once again, thanks a lot! Funny enough, I've read about this delay/pitch trick on vocals in a mixing book (written by Uli Eisner) from the analog days and used it on my very first projects back in the early 2000s (on a Pentium 2, mind you...). It's a decent alternative to double tracked vocals in case the singer has trouble nailing down two tight tracks (which I was never really capable of...). So I highly appreciate the reminder to experiment with that technique again in upcoming projects!

Basically this was only a manual way of adding chorus effect to the audio. This can be done using chorus effect vst plugins which follows certain algorithms which are certainly not in so much of control of ours, but they are meant to deliver nice outputs faster than you would get by duplicating the tracks and adjusting the things for every track. There are dozens of free plugins for the same. Yea I admit that this manual technique gives a really decent and sweet effect.

With duplicate tracks I make, I like to go heavy on effects such as chorus, delay and reverb, with the main vocal track being mostly dry other than a tiny hint of overdrive. I also offset duplicate tracks by a few milliseconds to help fatten things up.

First off Mike, your tutorials are freaking awesome! I have learned so much in just the couple of weeks that I have been subscribed and wish to someday be as efficient as you are. I have a question regarding microphones, I have an MXL 990 and 991 condenser mic pack I purchased from Guitar Center years ago and haven't really used much because I have a hard time MAKING time for recording. My question/problem is that on a few of my vocal recordings, during playback, sound as if I have used a pitch shift and makes my voice almost shrill and quite thin. My recording booth is a small closet that I have added sound dampening padding to but I'm not sure if the space is just too small and still getting bouncing sounds or is my voice really that "off-sounding"? From different people I have been told that my vocals are smooth and strong but from what I am hearing, I think people are just trying to make me feel better. Can you make a video that shows more in depth, how to set vocal levels and any tips on getting that perfect track recorded. Much appreciation and thanx for taking the time. 🤘😵‍💫👍
