Obviously duct tape has a significant effect on the psycho acoustics. All professionals use Norwegian wool soaked in Algerian goats urine. It's the only way to make hit records.

Mike your review was great. I wash my hair every day but I still destroy the vinyl foam covering on all headphones over time. Not just the ear cups but also the headband covering too. This is not wear, it is chemical reactions. So I like the idea of optional cloth ear cups, I wish they offered it for the headband too!

I was somewhat taken aback by this proclamation because I find the 280 Pro to be extremely comfortable. For starters, I really like the pressure they provide. It's comforting and it keeps them firmly in place. More importantly they are one of the few models I've owned that don't leave my outer ear sore and aching after long recording sessions because they sit almost entirely proud of those flaps. I've owned at least one pair of every generation of HD280a since 1999 or so. And not just because I have a tendency to lose them or have them stolen 😂. Anyway my point to viewers in the comments is that every head is different so always take statements regarding comfort with a grain of salt.

That sounds like a fantastic idea to be able to mimic the crossfeed. I always think that most music (especially non-electronica genres and most stuff pre 80s) sound better on speakers rather than headphones, for the very reason that they were mixed to be listened to on speakers (most likely). By the way, on your recommendation, I bought a pair of Austrian Audio Hi-65 and was stunned at how good they are. In comparison to my other headphones, it sounds like a blanket had been removed from the central area of the stereo field. My best purchase to date, so thanks for that. 👍👍 As always, a detailed and honest review by you.

Hi Mike, thank you for the review. My Audio Technica ATH-M50x have reached their end of life (they are my 2nd pair) I have loved these headphone for a number of years and was about to purchase my 3 pair until I watch this review, now I'n no so sure lol . . I am really intrigued by the Adam Audio H200's and I'm curious enough to buy some, so thank you again for bringing these to our attention.

The electronics and connecting inner workings have lasted since 2008 on mine. However, the cans have now splayed outwards from the swivel (shoving in plastic ties sort of helps, but...) and the plastic cup coatings are always falling off. Their most tragic failing 😅I recently got a BT version. I think they sound a little different to the originals and the X models when wired up. Bluetooth is as useless as ever for tracking, so maybe a bit of buyer regret.

I have had to replace the ear cushions on my ath-m50s a few times because they disintegrate, and one thing I have noticed is that cloth replacements do not isolate as well, so perhaps that means something plus and minus with these Adam Audio ones too. The cloth cups may not isolate quite as well, but in so doing provide a little more open back character to the sound? Another thing, I do notice an exposed wire on one of the cans there. Not having that exposure on some of my phones seems to help with the longevity...harder to break if it is buried in the architecture. I had a pair of Shure Sh440 (I think) that had a detachable cable but sadly, a very delicate external can wire that broke months into owning them. So much for the use of a detachable cable. It looks like the one on those is at least wrapped in tweed cloth. That would probably help keep them alive a lot longer.

Hi Mike, great review and definitely of interest as I too use Adam Audio monitors (not as posh as yours) and really like their sound. I currently use a pair of Rode NTH-100 headphones for both recording & mixing, They also allow the cable to be attached to either earpiece (mini jack connection) which I find really convenient. and even have braille lettering on each earpiece to denote left from right which I think is a thoughtful touch.

This is outstanding. They looked at it from every possible angle, didn't they. I have a pair of Sennheiser 280 pro's and you're right, they are very uncomfortable. I went through the foam lining after 3 short years, and had trouble getting replacements, which I found in cloth. They're not exactly the same, but at least they don't make you sweat as much. I'm wondering if a pair of these Adams can be purchased straight up with the clothe-lined pads instead of the other ones. Based on everything you've assessed here, for that price, you can't go wrong. I might give it a go. Great presentation, as always.

I don't know about these precisely, but generally closed back headphones are not a good fit for mixing/mastering.

I have shures, I have AKG's I have Beyerdynamics 770 Pro X, 990 Pro X.. the Beyerdynamics, esp the 770 pro have a frequency response of 5 Hz to 30 kHz; This wide dynamic range gives a presense not heard on any other headphone.. has the most comforable ear cuffs, soft, and replaceable, as well as removable cords.. straight/coiled pre preference, and they attach via a "Mini-XLR" plug.. so if you break a cable, you don't have to buy a new set of headphones, you just replace the cable, and you're going.. I keep extras in the tool box.. BeyerDynamics all the way.. IMHO
