I was 13 the first time I saw this film. Thanks for the re-visit and the excellent copy. On a cold, lost, night in a small town in Oregon, this movie was frightening. Believe it or not.

Holy cow, I found it! I watched this when I was about 8 or 9, sick as a dog with chickenpox, and have been looking for it ever since. I do remember the skeleton was a lot more impressive though, I guess my brain embellished that part. I must have fallen asleep before the actual Gargoyles were introduced because I have no memory of the rest of the movie, just the demon skeleton and old guy found.

Napa Valley Register, Wednesday, November 29, 1972; LIVELY ARTS, by Dick Kleiner; WILDE IN THE CAVES-For the first time in a long time, Cornel Wilde has worked for somebody other than himself. He did a TV movie for CBS called Gargoyles (not about a new kind of mouthwash). In the last few years Wilde has produced, directed and, generally, starred in his own films. But this is strictly a job for hire. "It came at a good time for me," Wilde says. "I was between pictures of my own." Gargoyles was filmed entirely on location in and around Carlsbad, N.M., and it's about a race of gargoyle-like creatures living in caves. Wilde, like most independent filmmakers, is finding it increasingly difficult to get financing for his movies. The big studios, which were always the prime source of money, are cutting back production. He and the others are going outside the industry for their dollars. It's almost all location shooting today, too. Wilde says one young electrician in the Gargoyles company, he couldn't have been much over 30 or 32, told him he'd already worked in 41 countries. Wilde has traveled all over, too, but says he's never found a place he'd rather live than here in Beverly Hills. He has a home in the woods, he grows guavas and tangerines (when the raccoons don't get them) and flowers. But he can get to the ocean or the mountains or the desert in a few hours or less. "I've been all over, but I prefer it right here."

Used to have these made for TV flix every week. Many were better than theatrical releases. This was one of those better ones.

I've always liked this movie and seen it quite a few times. I think it's a made for TV movie, but like it better than a lot of theatrical big budget movies. I think cute Tangella lost a little weight. Her impish antics on the show are always funny to watch. And of course Vincent's and Livingston's humor really adds to it as well. We're glad there is no bad profanity too which is an instant turn off, especially F-bombs. We watch every week.

saw this as a kid when i was 8. gave me a recurring nightmare. a gargoyle would turn up at the house i was living in at the time and knock at the window, when i wouldnt answer it would break down the front door and walk down the hallway toward my room, wings scraping on the walls all the way. i would wake up as it opened my bedroom door. scared the shit out of me later in life i became a stonemason guess what i like to carve most? dragons and gargoyles. go figure :P

This movie did one scene perfectly imho - when the gargoyle accosts the old guy in bed, reaching up over the foot of the bed. When I was a kid that was such a freaky scene! Just another reason to love this movie !

This was one of the ONLY movies in my 62 years that ever gave me an eerie or "creeped out" feeling. It was mainly the strange frame rate that did it for me regardless of the effect being similar to stop-motion animation (and yeah, "Jason and the Argonauts" also creeped me out for that reason - so it was SURREAL and UNREALISTIC that did it for me).

This was a pretty decent movie. A young Scott Glenn before All The Right Stuff and Hunt for Red October. I was 12 when this came out and all I can say the girls in the 70s really knew how to dress and get your attention. I miss those years. We were almost out of Vietnam. I was still a few years from going into the army. This movie came out in the fall so we had yet to hear of Watergate. Disco had yet to blow up on our radio. But it was preferable to today.

@@JeffreyLong KZbin is very careful about copyright, so it allows host-segments from Horror Hosts *if* the movies themselves are removed, and only the host segments are shown. So, for a host that does what Vince/Livingston/Tangella/Blue Painting Lady does from years ago, I suggest Morgus the Magnificent, who has a lot of segments on youtube. He's a classic and from New Orleans (good horror spooky cred there!). I'm sure that Janet Craft and Spooky Boo would love him as well. For Morgus "plus" the films he showed, you have to resort to the internet archive; there were at least 2 full episodes there, the last time I checked. Hope this helped! 😃

I was seven when this film came to the downtown movie theater in the small town that I grew up in. My next door neighbor and friend at the time told me about this film. I could not see it when it came out but I remember looking at the poster in front of the now showing display glass of the theater. I am glad I was finally able to see this film. It reminds me of the era in which I grew up. I love watching these old films. Nostalgia I guess .But, it is an entertaining move.

The motel manager played by Grayson Hall. She was Dr. Julia on the TV Gothic soap, Dark Shadows. Ran from 1966 through 1971. She played a main character through the whole run of the show. This movie was made one year after Dark Shadows ended.

@@CreatureFeatures3 I DIDN'T say it was "my favorite". I said clearly that of ALL those I have so far seen that you have presented, INCLUDING a few with recognizable actors, THIS was a GOOD one. I didn't bother watching it though because I saw it on television decades ago when I was an adolescent and it was so VIVID the imagery impressions have stayed with me. I would even go so far to say that, even though it was ONY a TV movie feature and NOT a theatrical one, it is one of the BEST demon movies I have ever seen.

Second comment of the show. Did anyone notice, during the letters segment, their lovely blonde guest could be seen behind Vince as long as the camera was facing him but when there was a side shot, she completely disappeared!! Even when the Blue Lady was there in side shot, blonde lady was gone!
