Credibility- integrity- Let your yes be yes and your no be no. When we say something their is gap of time to prove it. 1) story of Olympic guy who lied about being held up at a gas station. James 3 - we all stumble in many way but if you can control your tongue you are mature / perfect.

The folks at the time made loopholes - let’s make an oath using heaven - by the temple - if you swear away from jersusalem Mathew 23:16 - woah to you blind guides - What’s greater the gold or the temple You guys are manipulating me. We create space that we don’t allow GOD in. Compartmentalizing. You can have my Sunday but Friday night is mine. You can have home time but school that is mine This is what the Pharisees did. We can Not allow one area of our life to be governed by HiM and other areas to run by ourselves.

If we say we are going to do something let’s do it. I said I was going to serve and don’t show up. We lose credibility. Do what you say your going to do. This is Jesus command. We trust HIS words because of his character and conduct.

Also to solve a dispute- Abraham had a dispute about a well. Herod made an oath to give up to half his kingdom - she wanted half his kingdom The guy made an oath to give whatever he saw first when he got home - bam his daughter walks out.

This is what you heard but I tell you this - Jesus supremacy. This is not how to get saved but how to live once we are saved. Our lives should make an imprint on everyone’s lives we contact. Give a promise to indicate your telling the truth. Your word alone does not have enough weight so you make a vow - pinky swear - cross my heart hope to die stick a needle in my eye. I put that on -- Over 200x an oath is mentioned in scripture. Purpose - to seal an agreement ( how can I trust you ?) let’s make an oath. Abraham - find a bride for Isaac from my country. -- take this oath. gen 42:24

We are liars - fisherman / surfers. We are prone to lie. We are called to be distinct - and not lie. Be different from others. Lev 19:12 don’t swear falsely and disgrace my name. Problem 2- we are always looking for a loophole. Disney if your kid is 3 you get in free so I put both my boys in a walker.

Someone who speaks truth …who swears even to their own hurt. They do it. Youth are growing up not believing an absolute truth…maybe your growing up in a home where your parents yes is not yes and no is not no. You have no example of honesty and integrity. Look to Jesus mi amigos.

We use one set of language at church another at school. Principles- oaths are not bad. I made an oath to stay faithful to my wife. Quakers won’t take an oath. They won’t be sworn in for jury duty. Some of you made an oath to follow Jesus. To serve in full time ministry. Hebrews 13 God swore by himself. God makes path and vows - to never leave you or forsake you. Paul made oaths - GOD is my witness I am praying for you. Jesus made an oath - before caiphas mathew 26- tell us if you are the Christ. --it is as you said!!!! 2) let honesty be constantly on your lips Let your yes be yes and no be no. Psalm 119 remove from me the way of luring Psalm 5 you shall destroy those who lie Proverbs 6 things the lord hates and one of those is lying. Principle 3- be credible. Live in a way that people believe what you say. You don’t need to pinky promise. Are you believable ?
