I live in SE Florida and bought my first boat in 1982 and have owned pretty much since then. I've never trailered, always a marina. Sometimes dry and sometimes wet. Well I decided I'm getting to old for boat ownership what with all the cleaning and maintenance etc so I sold and joined a boat club. Dock it and walk away and always 2 dock guys to catch lines and help with your stuff. At my home location they line the boats up along a dock starboard side to so that's where you have to return. The fairway is very narrow with the dock on one side and very large boats on the other. The prevailing wind is in your face coming in or blowing off the dock. We rarely get a north wind which would push into the dock after you get lined up. There is very little current. After I get docked and my stuff in the car my wife and I like to take up an observation post and watch the other members come in. It's horrific. The club will even provide on the water training in anything you want including docking. All you pay for is the gas. I guess people are too embarrassed to admit they have no clue. The manager told me the only people who take advantage of the offered training are women members.

Loading your boat, back your trailer into the water leaving the boat trailer fenders out off the water, most folks back too far into the water, (if your fenders are under water you are too far) causing all kinds of problems. Simply drive your boat onto the trailer, it will usually self-correct when it slides up the bunks, if you are slightly off center. You may have to goose it slightly to get it all the way on the trailer. Have your partner connect the cable to the front and winch it tight, now pull the boat and trailer out of the water.

Ive never heard that before, treat twins like a zero turn mower. Thats really useful thanks for that. Im a new boat owner of a 2022 255 sea hunt center console and watching these videos has helped with my handling skills tremendously. We are thinking about trading in next year for a boat with twins and thats why that comment may be useful.

Also can think of it like a shopping cart. Picture your hands on the cart and imagine each hand on a shifter. Left hand forward and right hand back = sharp right turn. Left hand forward and right hand still(idle) = wide right turn. A mistake many make when first transitioning to twins is they steer and shift or they leave the engines turned and try to use the shifters. One or the other. Engines straight (amidship) and use the shifters individually or shift them together and use the wheel (like a single engine) but you’re missing out on improved maneuverability by not splitting the engines. Sorry this was long winded but you seem open to learning and I’ve always liked to share. (USCG 100-Ton Master)

The funniest thing I have seen lately is one of those rental pontoons pulling up to the rental dock and five plus-size women climb off like they were invading Normandy. Refused to tinkle in the lake because they didn’t want to get their swim suits or hair wet. Yeah, you’re reading that right. Captain said he drove for twenty minutes to get them to a clean bathroom. Said the whole time on the lake they took selfies.
