I’m over here putting together a 2000-2005 playlist on Spotify of just absolutely everything I loved (I’m 33 those 5 years were prime especially for rock/metal) and I was like “lol let me look Creed up”. Their popular tracks were late 90s but I saw this album cover, saw the track Bullets and instantly remembered back when I heard it I thought it was a standout track for Creed. It’s been 20 years (WHERE DID THE TIME GO) since I listened to this song and OH MY GOD. I appreciate it so much more now. Probably one of the best rock songs to age and still pack a punch in 20+ years later. Holy shit not even related to Creed this is just HEAVY! Shame not enough people heard this one. Btw I’m a fan of bands like Attila, Emmure, Gideon etc so when I say “heavy” that’s my preferred kind of “heavy” and I will absolutely admit this CREED track is heavy af!

Creed is often labeled a Christian rock band due to the fact that all their albums focus on questions of faith, Christianity, and eternity. The band was never signed to a contemporary Christian music label, nor did it perform in Christian music venues or get any widespread regular play on Christian radio. However, the band's name itself refers to the religious concept of a creed.
@stiimuli10 жыл бұрын
They've explicitly denied being a christian rock band in several interviews as well....which is an odd cognitive dissonance considering how overtly christian their lyrics often are. Religious overtones and self denial aside, I still dig some of their music.
@candilynnn10 жыл бұрын
They didn't want to be stuck in one genre and they wanted to also show that you don't have to be a Christian group just to have positive lyrics and be a positive influence. They also as a band had a bunch of mixed beliefs and didn't want public scrutiny on that which as everyone knows if you are in the public eye very little is private and if you are to depict one thing and something is the slightest bit wrong you are the worst thing compared to regular people. Rock bands not in the Christian arena are just known for certain behavior so are often ignored unless it is serious. I think they let their listeners take it the way they want. I love a lot of their music and even used "With Arms Wide Open" at our children's baptism ceremony.
@cracked_walnut10 жыл бұрын
stiimuli At the time that Creed were appearing on the charts, "Christian Rock" was a sort of movement on its own. They weren't part of that, although they do share certain aspects. Their denial was toward being part of that mass of rock-edged gospel, essentially, that was saturating the market in the late '90s and early aughts.

So true Sam Miller. The thing I also later learned is some of the band members were still not at that stage in their walk to feel comfortable to claim to be Christian. This is also what kind of separates them from say Skillet who does share their faith but you couldn't tell from their fans and their ranks among regular rock bands.
