SOme might hear those words and might think CHEESY. PREECHY. But they DO make sense. Not bad words to live by. Honest. Boxing. Best combat art for "stand-up". Proven in full-contcat (sport). No "martial art" has better foot and body work IMHO. No art better prepares one for a "real fight" (one on one....with Pancrase coming a close 2nd...it just lacks the same foot work and "bobbing/weaving training as western boxing). Trade-off? Taking hits in training and at "the fights" in the ring for competition. Ironic...you need to be hit and know what it's like to hit another person to be best prepared. Which is why I think no "traditional martial art" (e.g. Karate, BJJ, Aikido...etc.) will prefpare any one for the day it's REAL. ...not sparring in a MA school with a buddy but some one that wants to hurt us....KO or kill us...no one is ever going to know what that's like till they've been in it. Especially people who think taking self-defense classes is going to help them in the real world. God forbit it happens. ....though in real life when we're attacked it won't be one-on-one 9 out of 10x. IMHO. Mostly we'll be out-numbered and swarmed. Taken by surprise.
