*Creed post credits scene* Adonis: Who the heck are you? Nick Fury: I'm Nick Fury. What if I said you could be part of something bigger? I want you to be part of the Avengers program. Adonis: Man, I'm already part of the Fantastic Four. And I don't even know if that's gonna work out. So lemme just focus on this Creed franchise... Aiight? Nick Fury: Is... Is Jamie Bell available?

more than just a black relationship, but this movie flips every stereotype for movies in this genre with a black male lead. He was a angry young black man but he was intelligent and educated, kind, sensitive, reasonable, and focused. He had an ego and a chip on his shoulder but he was well adjusted, he had daddy issues but he didn't hate his father, he in fact wanted to live up to his legacy and he didn't need the old sage to save him from himself, he was looking for a mentor. Personally i think Donnie Johnson is the Black male lead in a movie that we have been asking hollywood for. 5 *****

Rocky (Creed gives Rocky, a nobody a shot) Rocky II (Creed Takes The L in the rematch) Rocky III (Mr. T whips Rocky's ass and Creed has to train Rocky) Rocky IV (Rocky avenges the Death of Creed and ends the cold war at the same time) Creed (Nuff said)

Though I am not black, for whatever it is worth I agree with your comments on black movies and representation of black relationships. I grew up watching "black movies" because I didn't realize that I was not their target market until I tried to talk to my friends about them and literally no one had seen them! Ah well, it meant I got to enjoy Columbus Short in all of his glory before he was on Scandal.

as the whitest white boy thats ever been white, i can NOT agree with the black 'every man' enough. what i love is, have the 'every man' character, but have them be black or latino, or any minority, but do NOT make their minority their character. make their race indistinguishable from any other race. because unless race matters (like with an established characters/relationships (Johnny Storm)), it doesnt matter. you can have a black 'every man'. you dont need to make him love rap, or the latino love tacos or have strong family connections. stereotypes exist for a reson, and its OK to use them, BUT DONT MAKE all of them, of any race, stereotypes

Creed was AMAZING! This was the best passing on of a movie franchise to a younger new actor I've seen. This may be the best Rocky film yet! It's one of my top favorites now. I'm all on board for Adonis to take on the "Rocky" mantle. I almost leapt out of my seat at the last fight when I heard the Rocky motif play with the trumpets right before the last couple blows were thrown. They were channeling that young Rocky spirit! Aww, so good.

Bruh, you definitely hit a point about the romance, you don't see black love in mainstream movies often. But the much stronger point is that black men are normally not in relationships in movies. So interracial relationships with black men get the short end of the stick, especially with white women. At least you're guarantee to get black love in black movies. In black movies you don't see interracial relationships. Hell think like a man both movies and about last night literally had ensemble relationships, no interracial relationships. In mainstream movies the very few times that black men are in a relationship, it's with either a light skin black woman or latina. Hell, Finn went to the heart of the first order, got sliced through the spine with a lightsaber and still got friend zone. You best believe if Finn was played by channing Tatum they would have kissed by the second act. So the much stronger point you made is black people asexual issues in mainstream movies. Because at least you get black love in black movies.

This movie was AWESOME! I saw it a lot later than I intended to - just like you Black Nerd, but man oh man, definitely worth it. It did have heart and everything you mentioned. I thought the fight scenes were THE BEST fighting scenes I had seen in any boxing movie, like EVER! Very well shot and directed! About the knock you gave it of thinking who the last fight was going to be, I thought they were setting it up for a sequel, which i think this works GREAT as. Adonis establishes he is a fighter to be reckoned with and not just making it off his daddy's name. Add in he has been trained by Rocky now and that sets up a big showdown with Stuntman and Stunt talking smack how he knocked out Adonis, took his ride and owns him - basically stripping Adonis of his manhood and maybe Adonis had some psychological fear to overcome (a la Rocky 3). I think that could work very well, if it is tweaked and done as well as Creed was done. Bottom line, Creed will definitely be sitting next to my Rocky undisputed Blu ray collection when it gets released, and YOU KNOW it will have some great special features so I'm excited for those as well. This movie is a definite must see and must own for Rocky fans ... and don't hate on it or go in with negative thinking because it is a bit more street and the main character is black, it really is a great movie, too good to pass up, especially over something as trivial as skin color.
@julia.24
@julia.24 7 жыл бұрын
I do love that the movie was able to establish its characters as people and make their blackness an important aspect of their character, but not a "gimmick" or the only defining aspect of their personality. Adonis is a fighter, and he's black; Bianca is a singer, and she's black, and I think their race is vital to their current characterizations, but it isn't made to be the only thing we care about them. I hate to hear people who have never struggled to see themselves represented in fiction talk about how "fake" minority characters are; I would defend Creed even if it was a stereotypically black movie because those deserve their place too. It is nice, however, to see a movie written that expects people of all races to relate to a black man because of his journey; most of the time, that's saved for the white everyman, who's percieved lack of race must mean he's a blank slate for all people to relate to! As a lesbian, I understand the struggle between lgbt genre films which I enjoy, but rarely get mainstream appeal, and token gay characters in movies or sitcoms which recieve sparse amounts of attention, usually all chalked up to stereotypes about their sexuality or a chance for the scriptwriters to show how ~progressive~ they are for having a gay character, even if they are never served by the narrative. I hope that one day, all people can find themselves represented in film as they are, with their unique features defining traits of their personality, but not their only aspect of characterizations. Creed was such a great movie in how it approached race and I hope to see more like it in the future.

Good review Andre and I agree with it wholeheartedly. The Stuntman not showing up again kinda bugged me a little bit as well. I dug how they worked today's technology into the plot like him looking up the fight on KZbin and watching it on his tablet,that was a nice touch that kinda built out the universe in which Rocky and Apollo are real people. On a side note,I didn't realize this until I looked away from the video while it was playing,but your voice sounds a lot like Kadeem Hardison.

hey Andre love your videos. 😃 this is my first movie review video I've watched. I have one question for someone like me who didn't watched the old rockys is it a necessity to watch them first before creed?

Andre, the reason Adonis didn't fight Stuntman is that Pretty Ricky broke his jaw. Ricky chose to fight him to use the Creed name and make more money. The soundtrack was amazing btw.

Pretty Ricky Conlan was the Apollo Creed of the movie. Ricki was going to prison for 7 years possibly ending his career Sort of like Apollo was basically aging out of his in the original Rocky movie.

Just last year, there was Dear White People, About Last Night, and Top Five. And just a month ago there was Chi-Raq. Two of those are mainstream films, and they all have black-black romances between fleshed out characters. But in general, I understand what you mean, Andre.

I sort of think that the second film will have Danny "Stuntman" Wheeler face off against Apollo. The first film was meant to sort of cement his ability as a fighter-- to test him and to overcome his own demons. Whereas his fight with Wheeler could be the fight where he might win the belt? Like Wheeler will be the main obstacle.

8:52 Doug Walker actually has a name for that cliche. It's called the "Liar Revealed" cliche and, just like you and him, I HATE when movies resort to that. When Doug Walker did his video of the Top 10 Worst Cliches, I realized that this cliche is particularly rampant in rom-coms and kid's movies (many of which I've seen like A Bug's Life, Chicken Run, and even Rango).

Great review! I loved Creed, best "Rocky" film since the original. I would like to see Adonis even the score with either Stuntman or Pretty Ricky in the next movie. And maybe for "Creed III", they could have Mr. T back as Clubber Lang; who would be training his own young protege who becomes an antagonist for Adonis! I pity the poor fool who wouldn't see that.

This review hands down makes me want to see it. Despite my avatar, I am a black female and I get it. All of it. One of the main reasons I subscribe. You are a nerd/geek, like myself, who happens to be black. But your color doesn't define you, it's just part of you.

I literally love your film reviews cuz youre not snobbish and you're just honest about all the aspects that you notice in a cool way great just great :D *edit* just watched it it was good I agree about the fight with leo or stunt man. BUT that could be in the next film bc leo is only 17 up & coming (i liked their fight a lot). I think the fight with ricky was justified. He was like the overall champ of the boxing 24 k.o's? and creed's goal for this was he could fight the champion and prove he is worthy of the creed name.

I found it refreshing to see a boxing movie where there was no real "bad guy". They are just boxers and this is what they do. You don't have to hate the other guy to want the protagonist to win. We are already on their side. Great movie.

Man. I felt the same way about the whole Black Love thing on film. It didn't hit me until he was helping her take down her hair in one of the scene. I connected with that primarily because I usually do the same with the ladies I'm with. Lmfao and can I mention the reaction I had when Tessa Thompson's character arrived? I forgot she was in the movie. Had me swoooonnning fam lmao

I think the fight with that last guy was because he was at the top as far as boxing goes and he was going to jail after the fight. So, not only did that allow for Adonis to get into the big leagues on only his second fight. But, I think that character paralleled who he could become if he didn't prove himself to be worth something.
