I just came back from seeing this movie, great movie. It wasn't all about the rise, not all about the fall, but it was all about the friendships between these characters. If you dismiss this movie off hand by just saying "i'ts trash promoting drugs and sex" blah blah, chances are high you are either a middle-aged or older prude or a racist. If you actually watched this movie with an open mind, you saw characters with humanity.

My first guess for the guy you alluded to making us swear he was revived, or something, is Tupac. Your comparison to Marvel movies at first felt like too much of a stretch, so I felt like you were just trying to sell this film to your general audience and was put off, but I got back on board with your comment about Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D.. I've been waiting for a movie to do S.H.I.E.L.D. right and the closest we got is an infiltration, instead of the real Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D. being dubious.

First thing: BARS!!!! Secondly, I saw it yesterday and it was amazing!! Loved the music and the flow, the acting was on point, and the emotions were tugged. O'Shea Jr was amazing and I loved that Cube made him work for the role (i.e. auditioning for the part and acting classes)

I'm honestly so excited for this movie. And I'm a white Jew from New Jersey. But I'm a musician and a music fan, and it's impossible to not at least respect NWA if not love them. I did a whole piece on them in college because they are one of the most interesting stories in music. And I'm so glad to hear that all translates to the big screen well. I've been very excited but worried for this for a long time. But now it's getting such great reviews and I'm all excitement. I'm also really glad you reviewed this. It's something different for this channel but still seems fitting. And I like to see how someone of a similar mindset as me reviews it and not just the music or movie business reviews. I would love to see you open up to more movie reviews of other genres beyond super hero and chipmunk. ;P If I had to pick one musician/group that I would like to see a biopic about, it would probably be Guns n Roses. As much as people think they were just guys that became rock stars and that's it, there is so much more of a story to that. All the shit between Axl and Slash alone could be it's own trilogy. I would love to see that told on the big screen.

Great review, Andre! As a non-fan of gangsta rap, I can honestly say......I want to see Straight Outta Compton!!! Ever since seeing the trailer, I've been eager to see it. While I might not like the music, I love learning about how musical groups come together (and sometimes implode). I'm gonna try to make an early bird viewing, if possible. I like your super hero analogy. I'd also like to add that I bet the story is very Shakespearean, too. Fingers crossed this film makes tons of loot. Cheers!
