Absolutely LOVED this one! My late father raised me on CCR on vinyl and 8 track. From their cover of Screamin' Jay Hawkins' "I Put a Spell on You" to "Sweet Hitchhiker", every one their tracks holds a memory for me. No it was originally sung by Marvin Gaye. Gladys Knight and the Pips livened it up and made it popular so Marvin re-released it. Gladys version is wonderful too.

Then Marvin Gaye recorded it but it wasn't released until August '68. Finally Gladys Knight recorded it and it was released in late '67. Her version became the best selling Motown recording. Then 8 or 9 months later Marvin Gaye's version exceeded hers. The first recording was the third released, the third recording was the first released, and the second was the second. The CCR version was 1970. Convoluted, I know.
