Today I fished a creek that i had been wanting to fish for 20 years. This stream was loaded with big creek chubs and longear sunfish. Very interesting day with a unusual fish caught on my underwater camera.

I believe that the “mystery” fish was a juvenile chain pickerel. The other possibility would be American pickerel but the subspecies down there would have red fins and they are more of a “swamp fish”. Awesome video! Always love the ultra light fishing

Could you imagine putting a couple 3 pound smallmouth in there? If they didnt die from lowering water levels (my guess as to why no bass) they would be absolute monsters in a year or so. It would be illegal to transport the fish anyhow, but fun to imagine :)

Hey John, you mentioned wanting to get something to keep track of how far you have walked. I use the OnX app on my phone and it's pretty good. It will tell you how far you walked, show exactly where you walked and show you the owners of every piece of property. You can either get it for your state or for every state. It's great for deer hunting as well because you can mark trails, stand locations, bedding areas etc... I highly recommend it.

The mystery fish is a grass pickerel. They mostly live in springs that have alot of aquatic vegetation and stable year round temperatures. Not to be confused with chain pickerel which would of had a different design. The duck bill like mouth and placement of dorsal fin plus body shape was a giveway

The thing with small creeks with a big population of creeks chubs is that its hard for other species to establish themselves there. Chubs are pretty opportunistic and love to forage in other fish's spawning beds even their own kind. I do a lot of fishing for them in my back yard with my 2 wt fly rod.

It will record the track you walked, the distance, the time moving, the total time, you can save pics and notes about the location, wade, etc. I use it and then send a link to my son so he can see where I walked and some of the fish I caught. You could probably even share a screen shot in your vids showing the route you walked (hiding the names/specifics of course!). Let me know if you download and give me your thoughts.
