Audrey II was a piece of genius. I've seen modern CGI that doesn't move as smoothly as that giant puppet did in1986.
@kodyk.76494 жыл бұрын
They filmed it at half-speed which is how they attained that level of movement. Plus like 30 different puppeteers working on it at once lol. Some of the best animatronic work ever.

The work that goes in for productions of the musical is absolutely wild.

i swear, practical effects will always be freakier to me than CGI. There's no way computer graphics can make me as viscerally uncomfortable with The Fly as the practical effects will. Also props to the Neverending story for scaring the crap out of me.
@BeckyNosferatu4 жыл бұрын
It's cause CGI can get it to look relatively normal. While practical effects will never achieve that level of realism that we expect, making us wary to it; it moves unnaturally and that sends our brain into fight or flight mode.
@BeckyNosferatu4 жыл бұрын
@@SirBlackReeds I did, but yes, over time, there's a reaction that your brain goes 'I'm not in danger, this isn't going to hurt me!' and the light switches off.
@Lumibear.4 жыл бұрын
It’s really hard and expensive to do it well, though, from the design, sculpt, build, puppeteering, lighting, direction, everything has to come together perfectly to make it work on the day, sometimes for just one shot, and if just one thing isn’t right, it doesn’t work, so it’s obvious why CGI is so much more preferred nowadays. For me, though, CGI, great as it is now, still often fails on two factors, the motion, if it breaks physics then you know it’s just a graphic so all the scare factor goes right out the window, and the interaction, if it never convincingly touches anything or anyone, then again, so not scary. If you’re trying to create a fictional reality that feels real, you just can’t beat building something real, but making it work is becoming a long lost art now. Shame.

Atrèju is in a desert at one point and he meets a big lion who helps him. This is the point in the story that makes a big part and its missing. Without the lion, Atrèju wouldn't know how to fight the blackness. And this is a fact. So, storytelling wise is the movie not good. If you don't believe me, pleas read the never ending story. How can one find him scary? Well, it doesn't help I'm a bit sad for the character, too... And oh my god the giant bat... I ALSO love bats... so... this is perfection... I don't think Gmork was supposed to be a werewolf. I think he's just a giant, supernatural wolf, like Fenrir from Norse mythology. =)
@Mokiefraggle Жыл бұрын
In the book, he's specifically stated as a werewolf. It's what lets him be capable of moving between Fantastica (Fantasia in the film) and the real world. In Fantastica, he's a wolf with the capacity for speech and the intellect of a human. In the real world, he states that he becomes something like a man, but not truly an "earthling" man. It's never shown if he can transform between shapes while in Fantastica, but he's apparently something far more than just a giant wolf.
