This is absolutely genius and can’t believe I never seen anyone else recommend this! I been spraying bent grass with tenacity for years, it helps but it’s expensive and SLOWWWW. And it takes multiple applications. Can’t believe I never though of this. Thank you 🙏

Great job, that's probably the best way to handle it. I feel your pain, we have a lot of creeping bentgrass in my surrounding neighborhood. The battle never ends brother!

Thank you! There are still no signs of the bentgrass and the sod blended in with the rest of the lawn nicely. Good luck to you and your ongoing battle!

This video was an answer to prayer! I'm a DIY'er and started seeing the creeping bent grass a couple of years ago. Now it's spreading more aggressively and I still didn't know what it was called or how to treat it. By accident I saw your video and I'm like .. FINALLY!!! Now I know what it is and what the solutions are. I'll try the Tenacity route on some patches. This is spreading because my NEIGHBOR has it and does nothing about it. So won't it just come back again? Anyways, I'm gonna chip away at it for sure!! Thanks for the video, nicely done!!!

I know tenacity is expensive but it's a must. You can't see bentgrass many times until it's too late. It moves so fast
@chosen1one930
@chosen1one930 Жыл бұрын
Tenacity is cheap. Compare that to something you buy at lowes. Tenacity or any high grade turf chemicals require far less per gallon, for Tenacity you can make a gallon of solution with only half a teaspoon which covers 1,000 sq ft. This guy could of spot sprayed instead of digging up good turf. The shelf life is 3 to 5 years some people get longer use is stored in the best conditions. A small bottle of tenacity can cost as little as $60ish dollars, you also need a non-ionic surfactant which is very cheap, about $10 for a small bottle

You can't see bentgrass because it can spread above and below the ground, it can also grow below the canopy of your turf until it has enough cover to wipe out a small section. Grow a different type of grass, Kentucky bluegrass or zoysia, something has a dense growth habit. For you guys in the north 4 New cultivars of ultra dwarf zoysia grass has been made, it stays green well under 32 soil temperature and air, extremely dense, extremely shade tolerant and is performing so well high end courses are already installing it in putting greens, fairways and tees. Better playing surface than bermuda and some bentgrass, requires far less input, less water, less fertilizer and has a much slower vertical growth habit but much faster horizontal growth rate to fill in fast

I like this approach. Never had issues with bentgrass or Poa trivialis til I dethatched my lawn. Now I’m dealing with nothing but poa triv and perhaps some bentgrass in my TTTF/KBG lawn. It’s just too wide spread to kill off most of my newly seeded lawn. And it was looking awesome. Wondering if your turf has blended all in now with the sod? It’s a costly approach, but I don’t want to look at a dead lawn through spring and most of summer if I use glyphosate. Like your channel!

In any project, prep is the key! The actually work of painting, laying sod, remodeling, and so on is usually the final and easiest step. If you take the time to prep your projects accordingly, you’ll always end up with a superior end product

This gives me hope to dig out a couple bentgrass areas around a recent planted tree. I didn't want to poison the area, and also didn't want to spend that much on a bottle of tenacity either, even though it would last a while but I have 1300 sq ft to maintain. I know lawn care is expensive, but I like to save on the stuff I can do a different way. I'm always making garden beds, so I know where I can get the sod from. Thanks for the video

Glad to see you loosen the soil going under the sod. I’ve watch large swatches of new sod die from being laid over grass or the soil bed not being loosen. Sometime you’ll get lucky without the prep but more times then not you’re throwing away premium money because of lazy prep

Good video! Tackling my lawn this fall. I live on a golf course that has bent grass greens, fairways and tee boxes....ugh! My font lawn is more bent than not so it's tenacity for that. I'm going to use your method for the back because there's smaller patches which is strange because it's on the course side. Go figure! I have 21,000 sq ft of lawn total so wish me luck! LOL

I’ve been told by my lawn service that we have bentgrass. The suggestion was to use thatcher rake, (never used one, first time with bentgrass), add seeds and topsoil. I realized your way a lemonade waiting for grass to grow but what do you think about using this specific rake? Will it be beneficial if I can’t get sod?
@fireball1066
@fireball1066 2 жыл бұрын
You'll need to kill (or totally remove, as in this video) the Bentgrass first. The rake will help in loosening the soil, but not in removing the Bentgrass and its stolons. Bentgrass is very frustrating to deal with because unless all is killed or removed, it just keeps coming back. For re-seeding, I've had great success with Scott's Lawn Soil, which helps in getting all the seed to take root. I loosen the soil with a stiff rake first, then add seed followed by the Lawn Soil -- just enough to cover the seed. Light watering every day is important. I've seeded in late spring, but fall seeding for me has been the most successful.

How does one identify what type of grass they have? I have something similar to this in my front yard, but not sure what grass type I have.
@lakehouselawncare1755
@lakehouselawncare1755 4 жыл бұрын
Since you are in the North, you will have cool season grasses, which include bluegrass, ryegrass, fescue, and bentgrass. If you google each of those and look at the images, you should be able to identify which ones look like your grass. Thanks for watching!

How could you tell it was bentgrass and not nimblewill? I still can't tell the difference from images or video
@lakehouselawncare1755
@lakehouselawncare1755 4 жыл бұрын
Good question. It is really hard to tell the difference between the two. From my experience, bentgrass has a little more of a blueish appearance. Then again, it could very well be nimblewill. Either way, I would do the same things to get rid of it. Thanks for watching!
@critterdude311

@@lakehouselawncare1755 @Lazy Lawns - nimblewill is a warm season grass / weed, so it will do better in the summer when the bentgrass is struggling and becoming diseased & drought stressed. I think your analysis was spot on for this one.
