Welcome to Spooktober! Tune in tomorrow for "A Nightmare on Elm Street" And over the next two weeks The Descent, The Shining, Doctor Sleep, Get Out, and Hereditary!

The Descent and Hereditary might break you. The Shining never did it for me. I'm always amazed when people say it's scary and one of the best horror films ever made. I never found it that scary and it's a terrible adaptation of the book. Doctor Sleep is actually better.
@CasualNerdReactions2 жыл бұрын
@@richardb6260 I did find the shining pretty terrifying, but you're not wrong about hereditary. I was SO grateful I had already made plans to leave the house after the film because I was... I wouldn't have watched that film had I known! Both The Descent and Hereditary should make for entertaining reactions. I still haven't edited Hereditary yet, cause I wasn't ready, but tomorrow I have no choice. It's time to go back in. lol

October should be a lot of fun on this channel! If you enjoy the 'multiple stories interwoven into a movie' style, I suspect you'd like the many that Amicus Productions made in the 60s and 70s. They're more creepy than scary. A couple of my favourites are Tales from the Crypt (1972) and Vault of Horror (1973).

The marble ashtray that Bedelia Grantham killed her father with in Father's Day appears in each of the Creepshow segments. It is visible on the desk of the imaginary university professor in The Lonesome Death of Jordy Verrill, it's on Richard's nightstand next to his bed in Something to Tide You Over, it's on Henry's desk as he's writing his letter to Wilma in The Crate, and it's a soap dish in Upson Pratt's bathroom in They're Creeping Up On You.

"You know what Henry? You're a regular barnyard exhibit. Sheep's eyes, chicken guts, piggy friends... and SHIT for BRAINS!" Fun Fact: During Fan Expo Canada 2015, George A. Romero had said that the cockroaches were the most expensive part of the movie, stating that the cockroaches cost fifty cents a piece, and they used more then two hundred fifty thousand of them, a grand total of one hundred twenty-five thousand dollars on roaches alone. Cast Shenanigans One: During a break in filming, Stephen King took his son to a McDonald's, and as a joke, Joe was made-up with bruises, cuts, and scabs. The girl at the drive-thru window called the police when she saw him. Cast Shenanigans Two: While he was all business in his scenes, Leslie Nielsen had a fart machine in his pocket during the shooting. He would let it go off during rehearsals, and just before "Action" would be called, causing Ted Danson and the crew to crack up with laughter. Cast Shenanigans Three: Ted Danson, who played Harry Wentworth in "Something To Tide You Over" said in a television interview that his daughter was on the set during the scene where his character returns from the dead, encased in rotting flesh and seaweed. He purposefully tried avoiding his young daughter, out of fear of scaring her. Finally, despite his best efforts, she went up to him, looked at him and simply said: "Oh, hi, Dad."

I remember that "The Crate" was the inspiration for a series of adventures in a role-playing game I played a lot, in high-school, "Beyond The Supernatural: Boxed Nightmares" by Palladium Books--contemporary paranormal investigations. Other adventures in that book involved a revenant that took on the persona of Jack The Ripper, and street gangs who summoned demonic enforcers to spread their power across the city (ultimately, being traced back to a South American drug cartel with the support/manipulation of a species of giant, intelligent sorcerous spiders). Ah, what fond memories!

Other people will almost certainly also suggest this, but I'll add my voice to the choir. You might be interested in the anthology films Amicus Productions made in the early 70s. They include Tales from the Crypt (not to be confused with the HBO series), Asylum, and The House that Dripped Blood among others. Most are adapted from the 50s EC comics (which Creepshow pays homage to). Except Asylum, which is based on stories by horror writer Robert Bloch (Psycho). Each features a cast of British actors including a number of Hammer horror stars and others who went on to become bigger stars as well as well known character actors like Burgess Meredith and Jack Palance.

I was 3 when it came out & not too long after is when I watched it. I must've watched it 100 times. This is just a fun horror all around. I love that each story had it's own discernible flavor of horror...but I'm pretty sure having seen it so young & so many times, it's likely that it's a direct result of my entomophobia. the novel for this was literally a comic which is awsome. That dad is acting like that because there was a real uproar over horror comics in the 1950s as being to violent. Parents where burning comics in fires. It went to court and the comics code of approval was adopted. it become mandatory for all comic book publishers to be approved for no violent material. There was a loop hole as it applied to comics only. One famous work around was "MAD" which changed its format from a comic to a magazine in order to get around the code. The code is no more it was first challenged in 1971 with a now famous 3 part spiderman story about dangers of drug use. Marvel submited it and the code said no. So they published all 3 issues with out the approval. As a result the code loosened.

This movie was a huge cult hit when it released in theaters -audiences loved the campy-yet-creepy nature of the stories. Sadly, the sequels did not deliver the same punch in my opinion. Creepshow 2, released five years later, was still written by King but Romero worked only on the screenplay and didn't direct, and it shows. I don't really count 3 as a sequel because it came out 20 years later. Romero and King had nothing to do with this one and was "Creepshow" in name only. From what I've read, the recent Creepshow series (2019-present) appears to be a decent show, but left all the macabre camp behind and seems to be taking itself very seriously. Similar in that all the episodes are new stories, but again, seemingly "Creepshow" only in name.
