I love how every element of Joe’s handshake just seems MADE to be creepy: -constant, unfaltering eye contact -the rubbing getting faster and more aggressive as it progresses -him saying “i love you” randomly whilst still maintaining eye contact -the fact it takes the full 3 minutes

It's soooo creepy! It reminded me of a traumatic moment in my life. I was doing yard work for my grandpa in the front yard. I was maybe in my early 20's. I was also working in landscaping, so I was used to neighbors occasionally seeing me work and asking if I could do work for them. Some super old Chinese guy walks by and gestures to me, I thought maybe he was going to ask if I could do some work for him. He put his hand out to shake my hand, to not be rude (like an idiot) I shook his hand. He used his finger to rub the palm of my hand, exactly like Joe, and said "I love you," with a very strong accent. If was f***king creepy as f**k. I tore my hand away and told him to GET THE F**K AWAY FROM ME NOW. And he left. Such a violation! It was so gross.

What really got me...is like, the multiple camera angles....like that would have been an awkward scene in the editing room. Plenty of contestants have said they'd like another shot, and many have appeared on the podcast more than once. Rhod however has chosen to not discuss or relive his appearance, apart from a brief and brilliant chat with James on The Froth podcast. Initially he was openly critical of the show and of his own performance. However, I believe that being widely recognised as one of the most memorable and loved contestants may have softened his overall view, but I doubt he would reassociate with the show 😭
