Abandoned Central

Жыл бұрын

This abandoned hospital was an inpatient hospital that specialized in mental health and psychopathy, long-term care of chronic diseases, and physical rehabilitation services. The hospital was also known for treating indigent and uninsured patients referred by other hospitals and clinics in the local area.
The hospital was originally built in 1910 as an infirmary and accommodated close to 2,000 people who were destitute because of poverty, mental illness, alcoholism, and other problems. Residents also helped maintain farmland all around the facility.
By 1932, there were more than 4,000 patients, including over 500 with tuberculosis, a deadly air-borne disease that affects the lungs, caused by a specific bacteria that spreads from one person to another through contagions in the air. After this, the hospital added more buildings to the property that specialized in the treatment of tuberculosis, and hence it become a TB sanitarium.
By the 1950s advancements in the medical field and a relative cure for tuberculosis caused another shift within the hospital and the treatment regimen shifted to a physical health care modality.
In 2011, with an everchanging landscape in the medical field the hospital narrowly avoided a complete shut down, but unfortunately they did have to cease operations of all the hospital’s inpatient services. The hospital continued to function as an important part of the area’s health care systems by providing outpatient treatment until it ended up permanently closing in 2020.
As of 2023, developers are eye-balling the 150-acre site as they will most likely move to demolish the historic aging buildings as officials have long stated that the hospital is “too old and expensive to upkeep and maintain.” It’s a matter of time before yet another piece of history is erased forever.
And that brings us to the end of this abandoned hospital. This place was sketchy to explore with security and police on site, but as you can see it easily could be one of the best abandoned hospitals to explore in the whole country. Hopefully you all enjoyed it as much as we did. For more photos, make sure you go over to abandonedcentral.com. Please subscribe to abandoned central on KZbin that way you know another video dropped! Thank you for the support friends!

It’s amazing just how quickly mildew and rust can take over a building or a house when no air is circulating within the structure. Two years that’s all it took for decay to set in. Sunlight and air are very important.

If the roof gets damaged and/or leaky, this is the end of most buildings. Mold builds up, structures rust away and rusty water leaks everywhere and makes it unusable. Even the stainless steel was dmaged due to the rust.

Very interesting exploratory visit. I'm amazed none of the equipment was sold, or distributed to other clinics that might have been damaged by natural disasters or war. I have seen state and even some private agencies where assets had to be destroyed at end of service, per service contracts. Stupid, really. But, that's the way it goes. I come from a family with an extensive medical background. Seeing this medical clinic/hospital in this condition would've brought tears to my parents' eyes. Shameful waste. Maybe the owners thought they were going to scratch out another year of operation. Thanks for sharing this.

I saw some comments about the medical equipment being out dated as well as some about the shame of it going to wast and I'm sure that there is some truth in both statements. In my lifetime I have see some of the newest and finest and I have seen equipment over 40 years old still used all day everyday. There is no excuse our law needs to change. Many people in rural communities and inner cities could be helped with that fine equipment either here in America or abroad if not needed here. We have become a throw away society because nothing is made by hand we get it from the store but we need to remember that somebody put blood sweat and tears into developing that equipment for the benefit of man kind and a wage to feed there family. God bless his children around the world. Maybe one day we will realize God has provided us the resources and we are Christ hands to reach a lost and dying world.

The reason for this fast rate of decay, is most probably freezing water lines. When they closed the hospital and shut down the heating, they should have emptied all the water lines, or if it's technically impossible, keep the heating on, set it just above freezing point. This is such a waste! Lots of these medical equipment could be used in other hospitals. And mostly because of the mold, to restore the building to usable condition would cost an astronomical amount of money, just because they didn't care when they closed the hospital.

At this point just give it away. This happens way too often when a hospital closes.

Hi I agree they should donate the equipment to other places it's like why distroy it? hospitals not being able to do certain medical procedures due to a shortage of items well instead of destroying it donate it to hospitals, I couldn't never understand that why don't places take on stuff that is still usful being that they cost alot of money to manufacter and purchase.

How come all those patients X-rays have just been left behind ? Surely they are confidential and should be treated as such ?!

even evidence gets left behind when a police station closes, when the funding runs out nobody cares about procedure. i'm abit more concerned about how they left all those xray machines behind though.. those should've been dismantled.

unguarded chemicals and radioactive elements being left behind is just begging for trouble.

X-ray machines are always kept on. There is nothing dangerous about them. They only give off radiation when you press the exposure button.

4:04 can we just say that part of the reason medical bills are so expensive are because they leave things like this behind?

I'd be curious to know where those TV's are getting their signal from seeing as how Analogue over the air broadcasting ended in the U.S. in 2009, and digital boxes on those older CRT TV's wouldn't produce a picture like that. Unless there is a cable tie in somehow still setup on them.

when you got to the staff lounge i thought, this looks like people came in and shut down everything and made everyone leave then and there.

It was never a lunatic asylum… It was a tuirbeculocuis hospital in the late 1890’s… I worked there as a public safety officer for 14 1/2 years… As for haunted… Possibly…
