In the fabled city of Constantinople, where the Byzantine Empire once flourished, the ghostly whispers of its enigmatic past echo through the aged stones. Creepy things that were normal in this imperial metropolis still send eerie echoes through the corridors of time. The formidable Byzantine walls reverberate with the terror of Mehmed II's cannons, the spine-chilling specter of the Ottoman Empire looming in the shadows. The chilling tales of the Bashi-Bazouks, Ottoman irregular soldiers, still cause shivers and goosebumps. From the specter of the devastating Greek Fire to the hushed silence of the destroyed great Imperial Library, the spine-tingling memories of these daunting artifacts and their chilling role in the fall of Constantinople under the Ottomans never cease to intrigue. Come, step into the spectral shadows of history and unearth the ghastly past of a city that was once the jewel of the world.

The older I get and the more I study human history the more appalled I am with the sheer brutality and blood lust of the human race. I can't even imagine the numbers of children and women and innocent men brutalized and killed due to the constant warring conquests of history! And it seems we humans never learn! Even today the innocent citizens around the world are being starved/tortured/and killed by war actions.

You're confusing the Ottoman siege of 1453 with the Arab sieges of 684 and 717 regarding Greek fire. Devastating in the last two, by 1453 the closely guarded secret mixture had been lost, and there is no evidence the Eastern Romans used it then. It was revived recently, though, when it inspired the defense of Kings Landing in Game of Thrones!

As I was taught in history, LOOT was the troops pay. The real reason the troops stayed on the seige. Not some unplanned 'criminal activity'. I also understood that huge seige cannon were cast on the spot, not dragged in.

Byzantines has a role for a eunuch that slept at the bedside of the emperor. They practiced slavery and castration at a mass scale. Of their barbarity none is their equal, has the city been reduced to nothing but a heap of dung and dust it would have been justice delivered long overdue. This video is nothing but acpntextual propaganda. Cute animation though.

I cant Imagine what it would be like as a citizen of Constantinople getting done watching the most epic chariot races in history then going to the bath houses socializing washing up eating some awesome fish going back to the races drinking wine then maybe when you're high enough (apartment or stadium) in the city you peer over the wall and see the defense chain deployed over the Golden Horn and its some new army trying sack your city or you see 10000 soldier camped infront of your walls trying to plot a way to get through, and this went on for 1000 years! But you just go about your day and shrug it off because it always happens and that's just the way it is. Seriously it blows my mind when i think about it.

The myth of the so-called Kerkoporta gate is reproduced to this day by some naive compatriots, but it has no historical or realistic basis. In terms of information, we should know that the entire wall of the Romanos gate, from where the first occupation by the janissaries took place, was destroyed by the bombardment in recent days. There was essentially no wall for a range of several meters and the defenders were minimal and they could neither cover it with bastions as they did in the first days nor defend it against greatly outnumbered Ottoman fighters.
