Reminds me of when I was in college in 2010 and college age people (usually women) would wear "grandpa sweaters" and say things like "I'm such a grandpa." There was much less of a creepiness aspect to the trend, but since grandfathers are associated with being behind the times, people would call themselves grandpas every time they liked something old fashioned. I had a collection of grandpa sweaters back then, as well. In regards to the creepiness of the slang, it's fascinating to see people in other cultures reclaim creepy comments that are aimed toward them and use the same words ironically in a way that isn't creepy when shared among trusted peers. I've seen people do this in the US, and I think it's cool and interesting to watch slang evolve that way.
@mischr132 жыл бұрын
you mean like pretending to be ironically out of fashion but really it's just cuz it's comfortable or you just don't care it's out of fashion? I remember that. there was even a song about thrift store shopping and wearing "grandpas clothes" in the early 10s

This is so interesting! Here in Finland, creepy uncle talk is kind of a meme too, but it's pretty different. The "uncles" are not trying to be youthful, cute or subtle. Thing is, this happens for those unwilling to accept that they're older and are still holding onto their youth surrogate in younger people. Younger people are still in that social bubble so they don't understand; which is understandable: they have their lives. Still I wish that there was a community for people who do age out of mainstream culture because for many people they are left lost and fend for themselves socially. If everyone eventually comes here then Wouldn't it helpful to make communities for them that will eventually enter that age.
