If valve doesn't wanna keep supporting TF2, that's fine, I wouldn't expect them to keep updating it forever, it's been 17 years. But at least make it open source and hand it off to the community. Also, now that Gabe Newell is starting to step back and is probably going to retire soon, the Valve we knew is gonna become just another greedy publisher. Not that they were saints before but they were a lot better than their competition, but now that most of the old guard is gone, prepare for the enshitening of Valve.

Given the number of bots used for aimbotting is projected to be in the tens of thousands, even if there were 100k aimbots, they'd only be making Valve $500k, which absolutely must pale in comparison to the millions that they male annually from key and other item sales.

The one argument I've heard somewhat defending Valve is that TF2's entire source code got leaked a few years ago, making it much easier for hackers to code their bots in a way that TF2 can't detect or fight against, and that the only real way to completely fix the "leaked source code" problem would be to make and release an entirely new sequel game. It still doesn't justify their years of no substantive updates or the utter silence from Valve on this issue since the SaveTF2 hashtag first got traction.

The most important part is that we keep this pressure up. No matter what happens, we need to keep this fire under valve's ass until they fix this. I'm see people treat fix tf2 like it's a failure already because they didn't respond. But they will in due time, they can't possibly be this stupid with a new game on the horizon, especially when the problem is spreading to their other, more profitable games. Live service/online games are just a scam at this point. Companies could easily just release offline versions of these games, or let players create servers etc. But they won't, because that would take the slightest amount of effort or time. And this sort of falls in pretty closely with what Accursed Farms created a petition over The Crew Game. Game companies just expect people to accept having the product they bought out right stolen back form them or play it in a destroyed state.

I recommend stopped spending money until things get better. they don't deserve our money. BTW recent reviews of tf2 used to be like 83%, now it's 13%. and All reviews used to be 91% dropping to 86%. tf2 got over 39k negative reviews with hardly any positive since fix tf2 (some people updated their reviews from positive to negative too). Even if somehow Valve actually listen and fixed the bots for now. I have no faith they will keep supporting the anti cheat. So I want Quick Play back, putting people into community servers that actually got moderation and community made anti cheat that actually ban the bots. is the best for tf2 in the long run. we will upkeep this game better than Valve will ever do. It’s a shame seeing the state the game is in currently, I remember when the bots first started popping up. It was a concern, but nobody really thought it would be anything more than a mild annoyance periodically. Now, it’s taken over the game, these bot hosters are making money off of Valve’s negligence. You didn’t even mention it in this video, but they’re even threatening people, they’re breaking laws willy-nilly without a care. It’s one thing to be a nuisance, it’s another to threaten and dox people. This is reminding me a whole lot of the GTA Online situation, yet another major company not caring about the quality of their product all the while letting it bring it lots of money. GTA Online has the problem with hackers who can find your IP through Rockstar’s shitty online system, they’re the ones at fault and they refuse to fix it. You can’t even stream without being singled out and attacked, doesn’t matter if it’s a private session, they can just join anyway, worst part is that they can ban you by tricking the system into thinking you’re a hacker. Well I’m calling them hackers, but they aren’t literally hackers, most of them anyway, just people using mod menus and what not to cause problems. And much like Valve with Deadlock, Rockstar is releasing GTA VI next year (unless it gets delayed) and with it a new version of GTA Online, so if they haven’t fixed their problem, it’s just going to become an issue for them with their newest release. I hope this gets resolved, but this isn’t an isolated issue, we as players need to have our voices heard, let these game developers and publishers know that we won’t support a broken game with issues like this. Let them know that they aren’t untouchable, even if only 30% of the player base stops supporting them, that’s a huge blow, that’s a lot of money they’re loosing. Just take one look at the current stock market, and you’ll see a lot of examples of how devastating a 30% drop really is.

I wish people would raise the bar even higher, bots are bad but even without them TF2 is still a bloated mess of a game with outdated engine. Imo the real problem is that Valve decided to spend their time and resources on stuff like Artifact or Deadlock, and not on remaking TF2 on Source 2 from scratch. I wouldn't describe Valve as lazy because I don't think that's true or accurate. It's more that they're greedy, in some cases neglectful (such as TF2), and distrustful. Multiplayer games require dedicated staff to prevent things like the botting issue from getting out of hand. Valve doesn't operate like that and most of the staff doesn't want to work on TF2 just in general. Another problem is they are extremely reluctant to hire help from other sources or companies in large numbers because they don't trust most people to work on their games. On top of that TF2 is an old game that requires unique expertise to parse through the spaghetti code without breaking things. Should valve start making friends with another company to do the treadmill work? Absolutely, but it's probably going to take time to build the kind of trust they're looking for. I also think it's wrong to state that valve has done nothing for the game. The game is now 64 bit and performs much better than it used to and the community has more ways to play and create custom content than ever thanks to Vscript. Lastly, the bot problem won't be going away any time soon until valve can implement better tools to counter bots which will take time. Yes, Valve needs to do more but let's keep our expectations in line.

I believe in this movement, don't listen to the doomers in the comments. What Valve is doing or not doing is unforgivable, and not because they neglect one of my favorite games of all time, but because they neglect one of the biggest games of all time. Leaving it to rot when it would be going well as the community has shown for years it would. I don't know what beef Valve had with the game to stop the Saxxy awards and stop the comic releases or stop their moderation support. But no matter what their views are they have a real problem with illegal actions being done within their product and if nothing is done then things will only get worse for them and for us.

Boycotting is the only way forward, if anything one of the biggest and most obvious reasons why Valve hasn't done anything about the game other than downgrade it further with every update, is because of degenerate whales who would rather spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on overpriced gifs over their hats and taunts, voting with their wallets over the past few years and giving Valve a clear message: "Wow the game is in a terrible state and it's borderline unplayable, but we don't care, we just want more lootboxes and we want to buy more unusuals because our self esteem is so fragile we need expensive items to flex. TF2 being top 50 for 5 years even if it is more than 10 years old is one of the strongest evidence agaisnt FIxTF2 critiques of TF2 being unimportant to valve, I'm pretty sure it has stayed up there just because of how low maintenance it is, they literally do no content updates, and the ones that are done, are literally made by the community, valve has to at least throw a little bit of money to keep the game playable

You are right that it isn't unreasonable to ask Valve to fix the game by stopping the bots. But saying Valve has the resources shows a lack of knowledge on how the company works, Valve might be a giant company but it has an extremely low amount of employees for how big of a company they are. This was from a few years ago but Valve had around 350 employees to manage Steam, create hardware and work on many different projects. Robin Walker has mentioned this before to someone that was doing a tour at Valve when they asked about the bot problem. He essentially explained that Valve is severely understaffed and can't afford the manpower to constantly be fighting with these bot hosters. "Oh but why don't they just hire more employees?" Well because that doesn't solve the problem either, employees can work on what they like and are usually asked by different development teams to come work on there projects resulting in barely anyone working on TF2. I have followed this issue for a long time and have tried to get a good idea of what could be done and why anything isn't being done and I only see one solution. Many people don't know this but Valve did stand by there word with #SaveTF2 they hired a contracter to work on fixing bugs in the game. This contracter is also the reason we have VScript and the 64 bit version of the game. I believe if Valve hired some contracters to work on doing the 'treadmill work' for that anticheat that they don't want to do that this could potentially be a good solution.

At this point I don't care anymore, the bots aren't the only problem: the game is plagued with closet cheaters who never get kicked; there are clowns who switch to medic once they notice they have a cheater in the team to win meaningless casual games; the community has become really toxic. Almost everyday I find some toxic kids who tell me to kys after they get owned or people who spam the worst racial slurs possible. I've completely given up playing in casual mode now. I just play in community jump servers

Something you have to do constantly. Valve shutting down all of their online multiplayer games means that they would only be shutting down the Steam master server which is used to list the servers for their games and mods. If this happened we'd need to turn to third-party patches running their own master servers just like with WON2. Even then, players are still running servers for these games and can be connected to whether or not it is listed (you just need the server's IP), so shutting the games down would really be impossible.

Just let the economy die. I don't know how to tell you guys this, but it's over. The game is just the economy now. If Valve fixes the bots, that will also lead to a massive ban wave of the bots that are there purely for idling and drops, and that's the actual playerbase now. I bought the game back when it was 30 bucks, I put in nearly 3k hours, the game is now nearly 20 years old. Sometimes you just gotta know when to press "F."

Valve just wants the money and the player base to save them and shield them from bad wraps except for the over two thousand days without an update, but that's alright in the massive update, but the bots shredded this look and shield and if they ignore it for longer then the bots will more than likely fully control the servers and instantly kick real people in a second and massacre other servers, it will be like the 2020 crash bot crisis all over again

Even if this game was just an average game, the inability to play the game the way it was intended should be enough to cause indignation. It worked fine, then the bots descended upon it and over time made it unplayable and scared away new and old players. The bot hosters entire plan was to destroy the game and make it unplayable. Under normal circumstances, people would have fled to other games after leaving a bad review. That's not how this went down though. Because this game is so popular, people needed to be encouraged to leave a bad review! After five years we needed to be told to make noise! We like this game and enjoy playing it! We don't think it's a bad game! It's always had its flaws and it's been a goofy ass hat simulator for a decade now, and we needed to be told to complain about the bs going on around us! Even as its falling apart around us we play, but it's literally unpossible that they can't do anything, i refuse to believe they are anything but complacent. And they expect to release a new game and it to not get infested with cheaters and bots, because their anticheat is anything but working as intended.

Gonna be honest, I think Valve is only ever going to do one thing that'll impact with the bot problem, and that's shutting down the official servers. They've made their stance clear countless times in the past, they don't care about this game anymore, it doesn't make enough money to bother with more than maintenance. They'll keep servers and add cosmetics for at long as it's profitable but once the money stops, it's over.

That being the reason Valve keeps TF2's item servers going is to protect CSGO(Now CS2) and DOTA 2's economies. If they drop TF2 it could cause people to abandon their other games too, because the same could happen to them.

It starts off with the commenter informing people that the bot hosters are trying to kill the fix TF2 movement by issueing faulse strikes. The 1st 3-5 replies to the comment are people expressing disgust at the bot hosters for trying to silence the movement, but then it devolves into an extremely uncivil debate regarding the legality and morality of loli- and shota-con. I tried to put a stop to the debate by stating that everyone is vering off topic and that we should all focus our attention at the subject at hand. I got yelled at then people just ignored me as they continued talking about the irrelevant subject.
