Today we'll look at the Dwarf and Semi Dwarf cultivars of Crepe Myrtles. We all love the tall beautiful blooming trees, but now we can have those beautiful flowers down low where we can really appreciate them in the garden. These tough shrubs can take our difficult soil, climate and drought conditions. They're also deer resistant.

I never really liked crepe myrtle. But now i have a multi colored one from a master garden show.. one of my favorite trees. Im planting a white one next to it. They're all over our south Texas area.

Crepe myrtle may be "tired" but they're one of the few plants that will survive our weather. I'm partial to the hot pink.

Thank you for sharing the information. I have a huge one on the side of my house. Pink. They are beautiful. The breeze likes to bring the Blooms to the side Patio. ☺️

I love my Crepe myrtles, such a beautiful addition to my garden. I have two different dwarf myrtles. One only gets about 1'1/2 inches tall , and the other is about 2 to 3' tall. The downside is neither bloom very well, which is a disappointment. My shorter myrtles, this year, are being attacked by scale. It doesn't kill them, but the beautiful branches turn black. But, I can't imagine not having any in my garden.

I didn’t realize they were dwarf species I was seeing around. I thought they were just trimmed to keep them short, but that makes alot more sense now. That’s very interesting. Thanks for the info!

Most of the better nurseries have these. Hill Country Water Gardens in Cedar Park, or Barton Springs in South Austin. Call around to nurseries near you!

I have no idea what’s going on it looks healthy not sure if deer eat it coz we have deers in our neighborhood. I need some help! 😢

Keep a close eye on it and make sure the deer aren't harming it. You may need to put a cage around it for a while.
