The last time I visited Crete, of which there have been many times, I stayed in a village on the eastern side of the island fairly close to Heraklion, called Piskopiano, which joins onto another village called Koutouloufari. It was like foodie heaven, for about a mile on the road that goes through both villages there is just taverna after taverna and the quality of the food is so good. Also nearby was Old Hersonissos which I went up to a couple of nights and there is a square with some amazing eateries.

Hi hope you enjoyed the video! Appreciate all the info! Our palette may not be refined enough to tell the difference between rooster and chicken 😂

You guys are great , your videos are fabulous. I'm a Greek-Australian who lives in Athens and is originally from Rethymnon.

Hi Paul, thanks so much for your kind comment! We really enjoyed your country and are looking forward to returning in the future 😀 you'll have to let us know what foods we missed trying so we can try some more local favorites next time 😊

@@WorldFamilyExplorers one of the foods you missed out on was "Andikristo". It's like a circular barbecue with the meat being cooked upright and the hot coals being placed in the middle.

I love all Greek food but really, just a simple pork Gyro is my favorite. I could eat one everyday and almost had 1 a day while in Greece!😂🤣

@@WorldFamilyExplorers 40:10 Snails have 3 distinct parts, a brown/green head, white body and dark brown tail. The head has a spongy texture while the body is very solid. Sometimes (depends on how much it was cooked) as you get the snail out the "tail" just naturally snaps off inside the shell and you are left with the head+body. This is what happened in your case and you just ate the head and threw the best part away. Anyway, kudos for going out of your comfort zone and trying the local delicacies.

Hi thanks so much for your kind comment! So glad you enjoyed the video ❤️ We absolutely loved Greece, the food and especially the people! Would love to return and visit some less popular spots. Any you recommend?

@@WorldFamilyExplorersOf course! Meteora is a must see attraction, is a bit touristy, but is a stunning geological formation! I would also recommend visiting Ionian islands in the west side of Greece, they are way different than the cyclades islands in the Aegean sea, with a lot of green and crystal clear blue waters (you can check 'Leukada'). Last but not least Peloponnese is a very unique place in Greece, mostly in its south part, with it's own distinctive cultures, food and nature!

@sickness7786 amazing thanks for the recommendations!! Meteora and Ionian islands are on our list, but peloponnese wasn't so gonna do some research on that 😊
