Interview with Dispatcher Jeff

Jeff was the emergency dispatcher on the other end of my 911 call after my industrial accident, which left me with an amputated right leg just below the knee. Listen to my interview with him as I pick his brain about that evening and that infamous call. I have remained good friends with him, and he has become a part of my family. Many thanks go to him.

I thought it was sweet how you told the dispatcher how you loved him..then later how you loved everybody. I couldn't help but wonder that since you thought you were dying that the only emotion felt in that moment was to express love and to feel love. That really is all that matters in the end.

I think he was feeling hope in those moments. Feeling relief, in Jeff's voice, in the idea that they were coming fast and would be there soon. Feeling empathy in the voices helping him.

My grandmother reconciled with her brother after years of not seeing and hearing from him. He had cancer and he didn’t hav much time left. My grandmother got a call from his daughter and went abd visited him at the hospital. He told her he was sorry and loved her. A few days later he passed away.

I’m a dispatcher and I have NEVER heard anyone that calm in an emergency. You are what a dispatcher dreams of, you were easy to understand and you described perfectly where you were. I am not that calm in an emergency. Your story is unbelievable so glad everything worked out!
