Crews extinguish overnight fire at Los Angeles County fire station

A fire broke out at a fire station in Huntington Park early Wednesday morning.
Crews responded to a second-alarm structure fire at Fire Station 164, at 6301 Santa Fe Avenue, around 4 a.m., according to Fred Fielding, spokesperson for the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Video captured by KTLA shows firefighters - some in street clothes - mopping up the mess in the aftermath of the fire; additional footage posted to the Citizen App shows crews on the roof of an adjacent building battling the blaze.

I am a fire alarm technician with over thirty years experience and I have yet to do testing at a fire station where the alarm panel hasn’t been neglected. One I did was completely down and had been for at least 6 months. When I asked if they had a fire watch the captain looked at me and said no we don’t have the time nor money to do that and yet they will red tag buildings for not having a working fire alarm

I lived in Washington, and within about two weeks of each other, the Local PD had a patrol car stolen as an officer went inside a night club to respond to a fight, and a fire station had a small fire (due to ground power) that only damaged an electrical line and slight damage to a fire truck.

my guess is it started in a fire engine or truck.....it happened to me when I was a fireman, but we woke up and put the fire out before it spread...but, who knows until an investigation is completed.

@rd8370 nope, that all depends on where you live some cities require it but others don't and residential homes don't require anything besides a smoke alarm on each level of the house and many fire departments are older especially volunteer departments and they're not able to be upgraded due to funding and how old the structures are , in order to modernize a fire system the electrical wiring would need to be installed in all of the walls or ceilings which costs a lot of money which is difficult for many departments to get because they're not funded by their city government much of what many fire departments get in way of gear or other necessities is donated generously by residents that live in the community or businesses that help care for the people that keep them safe.

@eriksand9262 fire stations are classified as Type B buildings, which mean that they are public buildings in which the general public can be inside of and go to so they're required to have wired fire protection systems in which someone can activate the alarm by pull station or the alarm would activate on it's own and send a signal to the 911 dispatch center of an alarm activation , that station technically wasn't up to code since they didn't have alarms in a location where there's vehicles filled with flammable fuel and is a place where civilians would visit during daylight hours or if the bay doors would be open the alarm could be activated by a passers-by if there isn't anyone in sight.

CA: you don't need guns to protect yourself because we have police, just like you rely on the fire department to protect you from a house fire while you are asleep. Also CA: our fire departments cannot protect themselves from a fire while they are asleep. These issues won't be any more frequent with electric trucks; these fires happen all the time with liquid fuel apparatus as it is. Firetrucks are unfortunately susceptible to fires more than other vehicles because they already have increased electronics on board for various motors, emergency lighting, etc.
