Some drunk guy set the carport on fire in my mom's complex, and one of my neighbors ran out to move his truck. He said the heat was intense and it was starting to melt his bumper. My mom's car got torched along with a bunch of belongings, some with sentimental value. There were cars parked about 50 ft away that melted. The guy that set it only got a few months in jail because he came forward and admitted he did it.

What does venting the roof accomplish?
@MD210375 жыл бұрын
@@mlambert1974 , when performed properly, and in concert with a simultaneous, interior, fire attack; allows excess heat and smoke to escape from an enclosed structure. This benefits any trapped occupants inside, as well as, the attack crew with visibility, and exposes interior crews from less heat, as it's ventilated much of the radiant heat out the enclosed space (the same heat that contributes to Backdrafts and Flashovers). However, rooftop ventilation, is becoming ever-increasingly, more- dangerous, because of the kind of lightweight materials they currently use in the construction of modern-day, roof truss systems.

@richardfernandez86985 жыл бұрын
FreeMongooose what makes you think it’s not? You could see the ends of the truss right under the roof line.
@FreeMongooose5 жыл бұрын
Richard Fernandez it’s an early 20th century bungalow, those are rafter tails that you can see under the eave line. They are conventionally framed homes, not lightweight. Another telltale sign of a conventional roof is the skip sheathing that you can see when they pull back the roofing of their vent hole. If this was a lightweight roof, it would be sheathed with OSB or plywood. Skip sheathing (boards laid across the rafters with gaps in between) is usually 1-by material and holds up better under fire conditions than plywood or OSB. This is a pretty strong roof to operate on.

If you're department hasn't trained you in the use of PPE, then I wouldn't work for them. Eyes and ears are irreplaceable, and if you retire deaf and blind, coz you think its pussy to protect those God given faculties, then all the best. You take time to put on your bunker gear, your helmet, your BA. Take a few more seconds to protect your eyes and ears. You might curse me today, but you will thank me tomorrow.
