Just to make it easy, the valve adjustment is 0.1mm or 0.004 for both intake and outake.

The small adjuster square is 3mm. I used a 3mm wrench for rc car turnbuckles.

What the symptoms of a out of adjustment valve lash? My CRF 230m just started to make a rattle in the head area.
@GoRideChannel6 жыл бұрын
Symptoms generally can be noise (valves usually make like a ticking noise, some bikes that's normal others not, and to be honest, my CRF is so loud you only really hear the exhaust) or hard starting can also indicate valves which are out of adjustment. Generally, adjusting the valves is a maintenance operation, like changing your oil or spark plug, so you don't really want to wait for something to go wrong to take action. The inspection ports for the valves are fairly large, if you think you're hearing something in there, I'd go ahead and adjust the valves while paying special attention to see if there are any loose components rattling around..

my crf230f wont stay running. it will start up no problem on closed choke and half choke. as soon as i switch the choke all the way open it dies. i don't get it.

More likely than not, you've got a clogged pilot jet...when you clean the carburetor out, be sure to run a piece of wire or a tip cleaner through it - just spraying it out will not necessarily clear it. You can also use compressed air. You can get a set of tip cleaners from lowes for about $4.00, or this one through amazon's a little cheaper: amzn.to/2KJSvfo (full disclosure, that's an affiliate link). Hope this helps! These bikes are a little bit finicky.

Mine did the same ran that thing full throttle with the choke on in some bumpy terrain started running fine. Sometimes you just get lucky and u don't half to clean the carb.
@MrSlizz-wz5nb5 жыл бұрын
I think it was just the idle screw not getting enough air i took the carb off twice and cleaned it very painful process
@PNnetwork6 жыл бұрын
Would this process be the same on an 04 crf150f?
@GoRideChannel6 жыл бұрын
Essentially yes. Double check on the clearances and the torques, but the CRF150F has the same style of valves and they adjust the same way with the lock nut and the square inner nut.

@@GoRideChannel thank you so much for taking the time to verify this. I just bought the bike yesterday and its gonna need a tune up. Thanks again!

My 230M is probably long due for a check, now that it has over 15K miles.

Whoa! I knew Hondas were bullet proof, but dang! There will be more to come on the CRF, but it might be a little bit - I've still got to get my Duc back together. There may be a few quick Vlog type vids with the CRF230 in the near term! Thanks for the sub and comment!

@TN_HondaDad6 жыл бұрын
8:39 whoa, whoa. .004 of an inch is not the same as .004 mil !!!
@GoRideChannel6 жыл бұрын
Correct! - 0.004" is not the same as 0.004 mil, however 4/1000" is generally referred to as "4 mil".
@aaronbourcier5296 жыл бұрын

No it isn't. .004" is 4 mil. Actual Pro Tip: a mil isn't a millimeter
@okanaganrider43322 жыл бұрын
In the age of metric and imperial measurements, why would anyone want to confuse things by calling 4 thou, 4 mil? Years ago a Mars lander pounded into the planet, all because of a mix up between imp and metric. American and European companies built the thing and the landing sequence was wrong.
