Hi just subscribed really enjoy your ramblings keep it up please. Africa twin is in my opinion a phenomenal bike and is certainly not down on power in real world riding conditions. My bike currently is a BMW S1000XR which is a beast of a sports tourer and I absolutely love it but in all honesty most of the power is wasted and unusable. My pal from Bolton rides a new Africa Twin and together we've covered approx 15000 miles in Europe riding every high pass and Col we can find plus a 2500 trip around the UK in 6 days all on minor roads raising money for wounded soldiers. Unless I ride right on the edge and push the S1XR the AT never has any problem keeping up and corners using all the tyre (no chicken strips on his tyres) effortlessly. Have read all the bs comments written on forums about it being underpowered and not handling and thats just what they are bs. Will definitely be considering the AT as my next bike. Keep posting the vids

Hi my friend thank you so much for the comment and the sub, You nailed everything above.I have had many BMW's s1000r, 2 x 1200gs and an 800 and loved the BMW's so much and I still do, the Africa Twin is far from as technically good as the BM's but for some reason I love it the power is just perfect for getting into trouble and the torquey acceleration is more than enough to 130, I can find my limits on the AT and just I never could on the BM's. I do think if money was not an option I would have another 1200GS te, just for all the electronics and cruise control for the distance stuff. But as you can see I did the Alps in pure comfort and enjoyed every single mile on the Africa Twin, and as you know that's what it all about :) thanks again buddy I really do appreciate the time you have taken to watch and reply :)

How you getting on with the Africa twin mate? Upgraded my gs for a gsa a while back and bloody love it, do like the the look of the Honda though
@SurfPilot8 жыл бұрын
Mate I love it, really I do. The GS to be fair was and still is an amazing bike, I loved mine, so I have not a bad word to say about them. The Africa Twin is so smooth for a twin its weird how nice it rides and the balance and weight makes it a riding bike in all places. It's worth a test ride if you get the chance.

TheMissendenFlyer Hi there my friend I feel honoured you stopped by. It was breathtaking and really worth time to get there. I only ever did Scotland on my GS but it would have a been a perfect for the Alps. there are very few sentences aimed at me that include the word gorgeous :) appreciate the view and comment TMF.

So how are you finding the AT compares to the GS???
@SurfPilot8 жыл бұрын
wow! it's a big question to be honest. The GS te with cruise control, ESA and all trickery was technically a better bike by far and I loved mine a lot, I genuinely have no bad things to say about it. But I prefer the Honda, it's weighted better and so much more smoother for a twin its crazy, the torque is a nicer and lower down. I can find the limit with the AT and that makes it more fun to ride bizarrely, the 21" front wheel helps with this. Loaded up with the panniers it was a nicer more nimble ride too . I can't help but think they are 2 different bikes though having owned both. You know what it's like, bikes are so much about how we feel about them and what our hearts and head say. If I had both in my garden and the ride was all motorways I'd go with the GS, if it was traffic and twisties the AT would win. if it was fun on gentle green lanes the Honda without doubt. I've done both on both :) ride safe buddy..

Thanks SP - interesting stuff and I know exactly what you mean...different bikes are great at different things. I only hear good about the AT though! Ride safe...TMF

You welcome mate, I think you'll be hard pushed to find anything that can compete with the GS (te) to be honest, I loved mine, well the gearbox was a little bit clunky, but nothing major to be honest. The big selling point on the AT for me was the 12k price, including full touring pack, panniers, crash bars, LED fogs, heated grips, taller screen, wind protection spoilers, centre stand, wider comfort pegs... loving you work matey, ride safe buddy.

Lovely scenery, I'm there in August on the bike. Thinking of getting an Africa Twin. How did it do on the tour? Did you take any tubed tyre puncture repair precautions?
@SurfPilot7 жыл бұрын
Hi my friend, it was a fantastic tour, and still a highlight of my biking life, the scenery really does blow your mind this video does not do it justice, you'll absolutely love it. The Africa was faultless long days with no problems, more than happy keeping up with bmw s1000xr's. I took one spare rear tube as a 'just in case' as that will stretch over the front rim too for emergency's if the breakdown people did not have one with them. I never needed any assistance and the bike was perfect in everyway. I hope you get away and enjoy it my friend.

Views look incredible! Very jealous - I have to do those roads! Is that a Touratech sat nav mount above the clocks dude? How are you mounting and powering that bad boy?
@SurfPilot8 жыл бұрын
Incredible mate, It was really worth it. It's weird it touches you in an emotional way for some reason, they probably won't look as big to you though ;)I struggled like hell to find a mount that did not leave the sat nav stuck out 6 inches from the dash! so I made my own out of 3 pieces of plastic chopping board ( that sounds like a joke) but its not. I wired at an optimate plug to the batter to under the seat, then run my sat/nav wire from that. it was easier for me than pulling the front to bits to find a live.

Surf Pilot well wasn't expecting a chopped up chopping board sat nav mount reply 😂

great video. what is the AT like on long motorway runs? im thinking there is not much of a differnce between the f800gs and the AT. the f800gs was reving its boobs off doing 80 on the motorway with abit of vibrations on the handlebars. what is the AT like on the motorway and with high revs and handlebar vibration? im considering an AT. cheers

Tony C Hi mate and thank you. The Africa Twin is a game changer in the twin market, seriously i am still surprised now by how smooth that engine is. I was cruising all the way through France in a single day at 90mph at about 5.5k on the revs perfectly all day. It also happily pulls from that straight into 3 figures for that smile factor. I owned the BMW f800st and you can't compare the 2, the Honda is so much more of a bike. my last 2 bikes were 1200gs's and I would still take the AT. Don't get me wrong I loved my BMWs and the last lc GS was and still is in my view an amazing bike, but the AT is just a smooth mile muncher and a serious adventure bike (a good few thousand pounds cheaper :) I would suggest an extended test ride if you can get one. ride safe my friend.

I kind of like Birmingham. I do prefer it to be sunny or overcast though.
