Flywheel puller

Clutch holder tool
amzn.to/1MsxPRy
Gear jammer
amzn.to/1KVo6WB
BOA strap wrench (would have been helpful)
amzn.to/1OYZJXD
Some aftermarket parts that may help save money over oem from Amazon:
Cylinder Works 10001-K01 Standard Bore Cylinder Kit
amzn.to/1JlaHW3
Hot Rods CBK0119 Bottom End Kit
amzn.to/1wtdkQK
This CRF250R stalled going into a corner and the engine became seized. Oil shavings were found in oil filter (brass/bronze in color) during diagnosis. Turns out the large bearing of connecting rod failed.
The engine was pulled and the cases needed to be split. No special tools required to split cases.
New parts that were installed were an OEM crankshaft, piston, and rings. The cylinder and cylinder head were not damaged when engine blew up.
This video covers both CRF250R & CRF250X models 2004-2013.

I had the same thing happen to me. The lower connecting rod bearing went out on my 2008 crf250r. Metal shavings were all up in my oil filter..... I ended up buying the whole video from him. I highly recommend it. I know it sucks paying for a video, but think about it in comparison to the cost of a full rebuild. The money you spend by buying his video to do the rebuild yourself saves you 10x+ over in the money you would have spent by paying a mechanic to do it for you. His video goes over everything in depth. I am forever thankful for content like this on the internet. Thank you, Matthew!!!

Layshaft? Are you refering to the crank bearings? If so, yes it's not ideal to bang them in. I have access to a press, however wanted to show a method everyone can use. The important part is that the load goes to outer race.

Impact is a central pneumatic i bought 15yrs ago. I would buy a IR 231 if I were to do it over again. The CP is a bit weaker. The impact has a dial to reduce torque, but I would always follow up with torque wrench on critical items.

Good question. I have no idea. I don't know the history of this bike from 0-15hr, who knows how it was ridden or maintained. Seems like quite of few people have had the same issue. My advice: change oil & check level frequently, inspect clearances, and keep the air filter clean!

Sounds like a head gasket to me. To be 100% sure, perform a leak down test and look into the radiator for air bubbles. I have a vid on "DIY leak down". If the gasket is bad, tape sandpaper to a piece of glass and work the head in a figure 8 to see if it is warped or not sealing properly.

Mathew Mc excellent video thanx for posting . my girlfriends 05 crf 250 seized today . no oil ! so may have some additional damage . this is such a great video for reference I can blow it apart , and use your vids for reassembly . provided its not cost prohibitive . i really don't get it she always takes the time to lube a chain that is wore out , and only costs what 150 for a set . it takes less effort to check oil to preserve the engine !

That end of the crank will protrude into the LH cover when assembled. The cover has a seal in it as well. All this will force oil through the passage in the crank. If your crank end is damaged, see if you can repair or worse case replace the crank. If the damaged end ruins that seal in cover, the motor will starve of oil.

I i didn't have this video i probably would have made costly mistakes when rebuilding my 2007 crf250r, or never had attempted to do it, or pay someone else to do it. This video has no doubt saved me $1000's. My question is about the installation of the 'idler gear' at 1.48.15 Is there any way round it should go? one side is slightly deeper than the other and the teeth dont end up perfectly flush. How is it fixed? it kind of seems loose even when clutch basket is torqued down. Thanks Matt Dave

I have a 2005 crf250r and the same thing that happened to the bike that your fixing, happened to me. I'm thinking since the bottom end is "done" im gonna put a Hot Rods bottom end kit into it, a Athena big bore kit, that will bump the cc's to 280, and also put hot cams in it. I was wondering what you think? and also how much in labor costs it should cost. any help would be much appreciated!! by the way these videos are great, even though I am not mechanically inclind

Matt - have you ever scene the oil journal in the center case above the crank - break the mounting bracket? I found the steel journal still inside the cast nipple with the broken half of the bracket, laying in the bottom of the crank.

im sorry but this is the last question?on the roller part on the rocker it feels like the bearing went out, because it feels bumpy and loose when you spin it and i want to know if that would cause the motor to lock up. i also noticed that the camshaft had damaged on one lobe. nothing else looks damaged no bearings look like its been siezed do you think it would be the crank HOPE TO HEAR FROM YOU

Great video! I'm hoping much of this will relate to the CRF150R ... it looks similar. Did you make a video on the rebuilding and reassembly? If not I can probably figure it out, but my bike failed much like yours where it just locked up and the kick starter wouldn't kick it anymore. I'm hoping I can get the timing set right, that's the only thing that tweeks my mind. Thanks.

Happened to me on a Beta 450 RR. I had to get the frame on a workshop 20 ton press and press it out. It was rusted and seized. Don't get me wrong i didn't use all 20tons of force but it needed a few.

hey man I am debating on the kx250f and the crf250r... which bike would be the most reliable and is it just me or are Hondas known for locking up?

hey thanks for posting this. my son and i have a 2005 CRF250R that needs a top end and bottom end and now looks like a new clutch as well and i'm wondering if you think it might be better to sell off for parts or if you think its still worth rebuilding. We traded a busted quad to get this bike so we've put approx $1800 Canadian dollars into it and the price tag for all the new parts is getting close to $3600. I know the bike isn't worth that much money if we were to buy it in working condition but i think it would be something we could work on together and ride it for years to come as long as we maintained it. What do you think?

I think everyone should rebuild a bike at least once in their lifetime. The learning experience, especially if your son watches you, will be priceless.

I've got a YZ85, with something going on in the gearbox.. If i put it in first gear, it just jumps out of the gear after some secounds. The earlier owner said it was something with a spring in the gearbox. Do you know if its hard to fix? And, i hope it is something the same as this gearbox, then i can just watch this video under the rebuild!:) Thanks!

Hi. If i damaged a bit the end of the crank rod, what you mention at 24:10, copper on the end is a bit flattened, but not much, should I replace the whole rod, or just try to polish it. Thanks,

you should loosen the cam cap bolts a little at a time in diagonal pattern to avoid warping them, if you ruin those you replace the whole head. and you should always put a finger under the cam caps to avoid dropping the bearing retainer clips especially if you're not stuffing a rag in cam tower or anything. i understand it's a full tear down and motor is junk but it's good practice
