Just finishing up my 2008 yz450. Motor was a few rides away from grenading. It's been a bit of a battle. On top of a full rebuild it was neglected in almost every other way. Almost every bearing, seal, cable needed to he replaced as well as bunch of other little things. But there is nothing better than bringing a bike back from the dead.
@conwaymildon44113 жыл бұрын
I brought the exact same bike a few weeks ago with the intention of rebuilding it but it turns out it had a major rod failure completely snapped the balance shaft in half and destroyed the casing. these model engines have a large oil cavity around the crank and if something comes loose inside normally it gets smashed to bits. its been an expensive build so far but ive learnt so much from it

@outdoorking453 жыл бұрын
😮😮that was pretty cool when you was testing the motor never knew you could do that
@Dubsspeed2 жыл бұрын
Good job. Only suggestion is if you are going to drive the new case bearings in by hammer, then atleast use a bearing/seal driver to do so. Preferably one that is brass or aluminum. Do nice centered flat blows. And oil them ever so sligtly around the race edge and case mating surface. Also if installing some other way than i described you should do the best you can to focus the driving downward of the bearing by tapping around only the other race. Our evenly across the whole surface. If u drive it in by the inner race you can chance completely destroying or badly damaging the integrity of the bearing and may not even see it realize it until its to late..

Thanks! The led bar is from eBay and had to get an external battery pack and wire everything thing. This specific yz450f apparently couldn’t fit a stator with a auxiliary power for light on it so had to go with external source, which I bought a “dewalt battery power dock” on eBay for like $16

I have mixed emotions... I appreciate they rebuild video, but maybe I’m missing something. Did you check the shims after you tried kicking several times and turning the engine over with an impact gun or was the video editing wrong? And the carb should definitely have been looked through before kicking the bike over, I mean you were starting with a bike that had debris inside the head... Thanks for your efforts, I know doing this is not easy, but a disclaimer to viewers may keep some from making a mistake if they are trying to learn. Good luck in the future!

$700+ for the rebuild and you couldn’t spare $30 for the case gaskets?
@Benjamminoutdoors4 жыл бұрын
From the factory they do not come with the gasket between the main cases, so I do not put one between the cases because that can ever so slightly put my connecting rod off center and can potentially not let my cylinder jug fit on properly. if you don’t believe me you can go to the Yamaha parts and look at the images, all the covers have gaskets but the main cases do not.
