There’s no doubt that Rohit & Kohli love Test cricket, and so do millions of fans, including myself. But loving the format doesn’t mean you have an automatic right to play it. If they truly care about the team, they need to recognize that their performances are not what they once were. Sometimes, stepping aside for the good of the squad is the harder but braver choice. If someone like Gautam Gambhir were not part of the management setup & speaking as a pundit, he would have called out dressing room situation for what it is. Celebrating victories is fine, but not if it comes at the cost of the team’s progress.

@Harsha - I politely disagree with what you stated “this is what we want from the lower order”. It’s not their job. It’s a blessing that they’ve done this for India but no one should expect it from them. It’s the batsmen job to be doing this for the team and country. To be proud in saying, Bumrah and Akash have shown how to apply oneself and not everything is about being flashy and styling and ending up being out and then using the age old excuse saying “that’s my game and that’s how I play”. If that’s your game, then don’t play it if you can’t adapt to the situation and demand. Country above all else!!

@ I get what you mean but what I was meaning was that we shouldn’t be depending on our lower order to save a test match. It’s great if they contribute but where are the batsmen? For how long now have we been hearing that they are playing shots, getting out, it’s their game and what not. My concern is the application. Look at the shots in the 1st innings. These are international players and they ought to adapt to match situations, game demands, the pitch, the opposition bowlers and plans etc..getting out the same way repeatedly is just not good enough..getting back to domestic cricket and sort out your game and issues. That’s application!

The weather, Hazelwood's injury, and the steel of KL, Jadeja, Nitish, Bumrah, and Akashdeep is combining to give India a christmas present of a draw and the welcome 1-1 scoreline going into the last 2 tests. Without doubt, India would be happy with a draw and that scoreline. This series was built for India to be 3-0 or at least 2-1 down at this point. I think the Kohli and Rohit issue is serious because neither has looked confident. If Jaiswal and Gill can pull up their socks and bat for a decent period of time along with KL, then I think these guys might figure out a way back in form by coming in when the ball gets softer. Right now the top and middle order is a sorry sight barring KL. Jadeja looked superb today. Now Ind has a weird combo problem. Their two most vulnerable looking batsmen are undroppable, and their two allrounders are looking good with the bat, but iffy with the ball. As a result, we have a 4th and 5th bowler, who should both be at best a 5th bowler in these conditions. Ordinarily, an Ashwin or a pure seamer would take Nitish's spot. But because the top and middle order is so vulnerable, and the two most out of form batsmen are undroppable, Ind has a combination problem where they are sacrificing on their bowling to make up for their batting. We just got the benefit of that, finally making 200+ and playing 70+ overs in the first inns for the first time. But we also conceded the most runs, by giving away 445.

I will include Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Nitish Reddy and Akash Deep as potential All Rounders, Pant as Keeper, Bumrah and Siraj as fast bowlers, K L Rahul as batsman on the basis of recent performances. This selection may seem odd, but it is purely based on the recent performances. That means among Kohli, Jaiswal, Gill and Rohit only three can be accomodated. What is your thoughts.

I think, a change in India batting order is needed. Gill should bat down the order while nitish Kumar Reddy should bat at 3. His defence seems to be good. Pant should step to Rohit position and Rohit should bat little up the order to Pant position. In this way, Gill, Pant and Jadeja will act like Cushion in case top order fails. Nitish will act as a cushion from top of the order

Maybe u haven't followed/don't understand test cricket and the charm of a great escape. Given the situation India was in,it is worth celebrating. Nothing wrong in it. A chance to draw a match is better than losing. And avoiding the follow-on gives India exactly that. Why are people looking at this as a loser mentality is beyond me. At 73/5 when everything seemed done and dusted,India fought and gave themselves a chance to stay alive in the series. It's as simple as that. Weather,depleted side,etc..these things are part and parcel of the game. U get some,u lose some. Australia was comfortably losing the Manchester test and rain saved them, which eventually played a crucial role in them retaining the Ashes last year. They were rejoicing the rain big time. I wonder if you echoed the same thoughts then. Or is it just reserved for India!..

In down under top order batsmen need to move behind the quicks to play & keep the ball down by allowing the ball come close enough & then decide. Right now Team India top order are very anxious to score as they are going through a bad patch. DK is spot on, as how he has explained the required approach our top order batsmen need from here onwards. Big players have fine eyes.

Let the rule be same for all it’s the current form that should define who should be in playing XI not historical records / social media followers.😂😂😂😂… when cool captain Rahane and Warrior Pujara is sidelined for nurturing new side why did they leave Virat and Rohit…. Until they are dropped from playing XI actually India is batting with 8 wickets as they are just walking wickets…. They are greats that doesn’t mean you play all future until they want to retire…. After this test series, there must be a clean up of both the batting and bowling department. Time for others to get chances and replace Rohit, Kohli Gill and Pant in bowling dept While the coaches should try out new bowlers to replace Siraj, Harshit etc. India needs a batter like Travis Head n bowler like Starc if they want to win the WTC final

Common Australia please injure either Kohli or Rohit or even better both. Sick of their batting. Obviously they both are class players and are aging. I m sure their eye sight and reflexes are not the same. I pity them but India should not suffer. I m not sure how Jadeja can still deliver at this age and more fit Kohli can't do it. I have been following Virat career since 2012 , When he scored 183* against pak in Asia cup from then I became a fan of him & admired him but now I've to say that in test format Virat hasn't come out at the top which fan's expect from him except his aggressive test captaincy & gived fredom to all fast bowlers apart from that hasn't come out 😢 as the best batsman in test format but earlier in 2018 I used to compared virat with Smith,root, Williamson but now root is far above of them, then Smith & in the third rank kane & kohli is day by day declining against his rivals 😢 I'm very bother coz what he achieved in odi,t20 is something else. If kohli have to finished his career on high note then he should need to score century in Sena countries.

India fought well ! But dont write off Aus so easily.. Imagine Aus coming back to bat and Travis Head opens ... and gives India a score of 350 and 4 hrs remaining ! Barring Rain and loss of Hazelwood.. it will still be difficult to play on that Gabba pitch , in the brisbane heat and the pitch cracking up !

The pitch is pretty flat. With so much time lost, its effectively a day 3 pitch, where it isn't that cracked up. With 3 bowlers, and Lyon not exactly looking particularly threatening, Ind shouldn't have an issue drawing. And rain is anticipated and a fair amount of it apparently.

Travis Head will get out within 30 balls. There is a reason they don't make him open in Tests. The job of the top batters is to make the ball old so he can score later on. It's not Gully cricket lol. Random experiments isn't the solution just because some random guy said so.

India hasn't saved this test. The rain did that for them, and Hazlewood getting injured was the last straw. India are still nearly 200 behind, they would have been hammered if not for the aforementioned rain and injuries.
