We lost when Sachin scored 175 and Dhoni played tuk tuk 6(15). Take other example of 2011 WC against SA. When Sachin was at crease lndia was 267/1 and after Sachin out, lndia 296/10 and Dhoni remained not out by giving strike to tailenders.

Yes we didn't had good WK batsman, that was the problem, Saba Karim was ok but not good. Mongia was very inconsistent. That's why Sourav Ganguly changed so many WKs early on in his captaincy and ultimately stuck to Dravid till Dhoni's arrival. Indian Middle order had good batsmen like Azhar, Jadeja and Robin Singh but were not so consistent. Azhar was not so consistent at end of his career. But in this series India quite good.

Again Azhar and Jadeja were not involved in any match fixing. It was proven legally. Azhar after that match fixing case as dropped from the team for few days but again came back for few match and then took retirement. Jadeja took a bit longer to get released but he was also available for selection but by that time some new players like Yuvraj, Sehwag came in so he was not selected. Both were great players. Yes were less consistent in later years but they were never dropped from the team. Azhar in the his series and in in this match too played a good inngs of 45 and pretting but Jhonty Rhodes take a great catch. Even Jadeja was playing good... Chasing run a ball was not so easy back then and that too in SA against that SA attack. In that terms they had done a great job. They were scoring in T20 speed.

No buddy... They were excellent players... Continously they played from their debut. Azhar was never dropped. But yes sometimes consistency was missing...Azhar avg was 37 in ODIs and Jadeja was 36...Yuvraj also has same avg. But they were better Test players also than Yuvraj...both were excellent fielders. Hardly missed any catch. Jadeja was a regular point fielder. Then Robin Singh came. Azhar was stroke player so sometimes while playing shots he gets caught also sometimes... Azhar was very consistent till early 90s and played against all great bowlers. In this series in SA in 1997, he was in great nick...just smashing the SA attack which had all premier bowlers better attack then Australia. India had many close matches in ODIs and Test series was ot so good but Sachin, Dravid, Azhar were in top form. Sourav was also good in patches.

I'm surprised to see SA win the cup 😂 their bowling attack has always been weaker, especially to India. Before Dale Steyn, they had to rely on Donald, who couldn't do much except bowling bouncers to the top order. The slowest fast bowler, Pollock, was ridiculous. Moreover, their lollypop spinners were always plundered by the Indians. SA relied heavily on their part-time pacers like Kallis/Klusener/Cronje, and that too had to be backed up by their only strength, which was fielding.
