Ranatunga had real guts. This was in the late 1990s when Asian block was still to emerge as the top financial power in cricket. Australian Cricket Board thought that they could still kick us around. Imran, Ranatunga and Ganguly. Three captains who changed the way their countries played cricket. Brought real pride and removed centuries old inferiority complex.
@michaelslavin16013 жыл бұрын
All the umpire did (what other umpires were stating in private but too bloody scared to act on) was to call no balls due to his action. Which by the way was why the ICC changed the rule to allow him to continue. It isn’t the first time an Australian umpire has called someone for an illegal bowling action. Colin Egar from South Australia called him in a test match against South Africa no balled him for an illegal action in 1963. When Richie Benaud was informed he pulled Meckiff out of the balling attack, no carrying on like a pork chop like Ranatunga, Benaud accepted the call. If it Murali had a legal action, why did the change the rules. Captains behaving badly. The funny part about this is, the ICC had heard 12 months before that the majority of umpires privately had concerns about his actions, yet the ICC and Sri Lankan cricket did absolutely nothing to address this situation. Stop blaming the umpire for carrying out the rule correctly! Blame those who sat on their hands and did nothing.

@@srujanasri4584 what a load of crap. Firstly there is the correct way to go about it as R. Benaud did when Meckiff from Australia was deemed to have an illegal action . No need to remonstrate as Ranatunga did. Secondly the Umpire was following the rules of cricket and carried out his duties by informing the captain and the bowler. He had 3 warnings . If the umpire was wrong why did the ICC then change the degree so the bowler was allowed to continue his career. Australia has never been jealous of any Country in sports at all. Considering our population we punch well above our weight.

They have always been scared of Asian bowlers having more skills than them. When Murli, Saqlain & Ajmal made the ball talk it was chucking when the English players learned it it's called art/dusra now. Same with Imran, Wasim, Waqar, Akhtar bowling reverse swing was ball tempering now it's art when English players learned it too. Much love for this Srilankan legend it was always a joy to watch him bowl sometimes hurtful when against my team😂 but still beautiful. Much love from Pakistan ❤️

@@supremegodemperordonaldtru3563 Flat pitches you say? The same flat pitches that Warne averaged 32.4 in the same test matches?? The same flat pitches that Lyon averages in the high 43 vs Sri Lanka in Australia? In Sri Lanka, vs Australia, Murali averaged 22.72 on his favourite prepared itches. Warne average 21.45 on the same grounds & bowled against better players of spin! Smashed Australia in 1996? Perhaps in your dreams as there was no series then. And just how many series were Sri Lanka smashed by Australia, I do recall in 2004 Australia winning 3 nil in Sri Lanka where Warne totally out-bowled Murali but selective memory recall is such a pain, isn't it? Yep, I think I got it. You have little idea about cricket but just worship cricketers. Perhaps next time, try doing a little research.

@@petepierre6458 Shane warne didn't bowl to Adam Gilchrist, Ricky Ponting, Symonds, Hayden, Bevan etc in Australia which Murali did. Noce try. Interesting you mention outbowling. Compare Shane Warne's Indian stats to Muralis. Almost identical. On similar conditions against same opposition Warne was no better. Funny how skewing statistics works by the Warne fanboys.
@petepierre64583 ай бұрын
@@supremegodemperordonaldtru3563 Sri Lankans were better at playing spin than any Australian for the simple reason is that spinning tracks is all they play at home & that doesn't happen in Australia! Wow, do you know anything about cricket? Yes they were similar in India, but is his own backyard, with specifically prepared spinning tracks, Warne outbowled him. On itches where there was no help, he was way behind Warne, more than twice the average! You think I'm a Warne fanboy & you're not a Murali fan boy? Try looking up how many cheap wickets Murali picked up against Zimbabwe & a new test entry Bangladesh compared to Warne. That is how averages get skewed! But you've already shown you don't research figures because facts may actually frighten you.

But Murali, was one of the few Tamils who proved us that wasn't a war between Sinhalese and Tamils but a war between humanity and inhumanity. While politicians from Jaffna rallying Tamils up to destroy Sinhalese people, "Murali", He stood up with all the people without considering Sinhala or Tamils representing their side. Even though his house was destroyed by racist Sinhalese politicians and was labelled as a "Throgi(traitor)" among Tamils. He is not only a legend in cricket, but also a hero for me.
