An Australian man competed for river space with a large crocodile on September 7 while he was out fishing on the Bloomfield River in Far North Queensland.
Robert Dunn told Storyful he was “chasing a barramundi on my fishing rod” in the upper reaches of the tropical estuary when he noticed the croc gliding through the water beside his tinny.
Dunn told News.com.au that the giant croc was known locally for eating dogs, and had been given the name Tommy the Tank.
“Tommy the Tank was making his way up the river and I only just managed to not hit him with the tinny,” Dunn said, adding that it “gave me a good surprise at first.”
Dunn estimated the crocodile was “around the 4.5 metre range,” based on the size of his vessel, which is 3.4 metres.
