Thanks Ivan for reviewing this interesting piece! I have a love/hate relationship with skeleton watches, in that I love being able to watch the little "engine" (mvt) in there working away, but frustrated by the fact that so often they are too hard to see the actual time because the hands blend into the open dial. For me, it would increase the appeal ten fold if they just used contrasting black or white hour & minutes hands.
@PerthWAtch5 жыл бұрын
Yeah I totally agree with that - making a skeleton dial doesn't automatically have to mean the time become very difficult to read - high contrast on the hands should've been implemented!

I’ve really liked the offerings from Ciga and this one is really exceptional. I agree that it is something special to look at. I like that they put the red tips on the hands, but I wish they did not skeletonize them. A watch should always be, first and foremost, an easily readable timepiece. Otherwise, it’s just jewelry. It can be aesthetically pleasing for sure, but always easily readable. Thanks Ivan.

Hi there, i think this watch is very nice . As an expert would you tell us what you hope for when review a micro- brand watch would help us in creating an watch that you would desire?
@PerthWAtch4 жыл бұрын
Well I don’t claim to be an expert by any means! But based on what feedback I have had, here are some points that people seem to prefer: - NOT a dive watch - definitely NOT a submariner homage. If doing homage best to do something vintage and less common. - up to $250 an NH35 is ok, but above that push for Miyota 9000 series. Above $450 push for Swiss movement - SuperLuminova - Sapphire crystal - Special materials elsewhere if possible, eg. Ceramic, carbon fibre - max 42mm, better yet 40mm or below, and thinner is better - screw crown and at least 100m WR - don’t use an OEM bracelet if possible - solid end links, screw link adjust if possible All the above are the on-paper specs. In the end the design plays a bigger part than any single facet, and certainly best if it’s original.

I think it may be the easiest-to-read skeleton watch I've probably ever seen. Hi Ivan, Thanks for this good and nice watch review! I am starting to see a formation and growing of Yes/Hits, No/Miss & Confused/Maybe camps in this watch review comments. As a tonneau watch wearer meself, I see this watch as a typical homage avant-garde styled approach. I am in the Maybe camp. Given the estimation worth value, I'm unsure as it appears to lacked design sense, ratios & potential fulfillment between legibility, design & character/personality based on decoration fitting & quality finishing elements. Well made? Perhaps not at its best potential, yet. Overall, I agree with the outcome/result as you have summed up to several comments as a cool interesting polarizing watch. Its definitely a striking watch to look at. To me, its a neither here nor there watch due to the mentioned despite the won award. All the best, Ivan!
@PerthWAtch5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Thomason - you have summarized much of the thoughts here very well. The legibility is the big drawback here... I think if they had done some nice high-contrast hands that allows you to read the time off easily, it would be quite a different story. I look forward to see if they improve on this! :)

@PerthWAtch5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that - at this stage you have to choose either blue or red, I don't think they are selling straps separately. As for how much you would wind it up after a day, the answer is pretty much "it depends". If you keep it on wrist, it will simply keep running and eventually will be fully wound, but it varies how long it takes to wind fully.

For those who are disliking the watch because of its LOGO / thinking it is a clone to RM: The logo is exactly why they want to do it. This watch does not pretend to be RM's clone at all, despite what you guys have been thinking. Totally different design aside from the barrel shaped case. Then all barrel shaped watches are RM's clones according to your logic. It is purely by Ciga Design and they are proud of their designs. It won multiple design awards for the god sake. Please don't simply lump everything that looks similar into that OVERPRICED watch. You guys are pure ignorant and lame. Different bezel design (designed by Chinese) DIfferent movement used (in house by seagull) Different straps design as well Different technology and features even (yes this watch is pretty simple and straightforward, unlike Richard Mille watches, complicated and sophisticated, yeah totally off the mark) All i can say, they do belong to the same category, which is skeletonised barrel watches. Nobody is copying or cloning Richard Mille here. Not even close. To me, it is brilliantly designed and attractive to my eyes, as I do not even like skeleton watches. It shines and stands out among those boring designs, especially those so called luxury brands. It has Sapphire crystal watch face (at this price point, seiko or even casio don't have sapphires, and some microbrands as well) It has an in-house movement (seagull st 2553jk, 25 jewels, better than those 19 - 21 jewels of Seiko's or even Tissot's.) It has both silicon and leather straps included It wears nicely than some Panerais or Big ass invictas, i have a 6.5 inch wrist, and LUG TO LUG 48 mm is great. It doesn't have any date function (yes date function can be really troublesome to set and offers no real value.) You just set your time and you are ready to go. It's polishing is quite impressive as well. All for less than 200 USD. What more you can ask? Come on, not even Seiko can offer such value. Seiko 5 sports which are newly launched, they are jokes and the finishing in some models are even horrible. Let's give them credit which is long overdue. You may not like the skeletonised design, but do not brush it off that easily. Look closely in some macro videos, it actually has less dust than some garbage swiss watches (which is easily 500-1000 USD)
@PerthWAtch4 жыл бұрын
Interesting comment there - thank you for taking the time to share that. Have you considered posting that on a good forum? I think you will generate more interest and discussion that way, but let's hope that others will also chime in here. Personally I would not consider CIGA Design a clone or knock off... no one can truly clone an RM, they are unique in what they can do and achieve, so it's going to be just superficial aping at best. This particular watch is really quite good and a keeper for me, but at the same time I do consider it an homage to RM, at least in part. One question I find helps me determine if this should be considered homage - Do you think that this watch would exist in this form if RM did not exist? I think the answer is "no" hence by definition it is homage. Cheers, Ivan.
@ocb054 жыл бұрын
Perth WAtch no prob man, nothing against you. Just that I am fed up with those shallow minded ppl who simply dismiss this watch as a clone. For example, the bezel design is nothing like a Richard Mille. Not after I compared it against tons of Richard Mille watches. To me, this kind of design will appear anyway with or without Richard Mille. But he did make it first. So ciga z is strictly a slight homage at most. But I give credit to Richard Mille on revolutionising the barrel shaped watches. What ciga z does is, it brings skeletonised barrel watches to the mass public without those fancy tech and complications. I will do a full text review in some watch forums once I receive the titanium edition. All I can say is, if those ppl buy this ciga z thinking it can pass off as a Richard Mille , they are going to be so disappointed. That big ass logo is already such an eyesore to them already. Plus, while ciga z is nicely polished, Richard Mille watches are even better in terms of material quality and finishing. It is so obvious that you would notice the complexities in first glance. I bought the titanium edition because it's design and brilliance in taste. Plus titanium is colour muted and not as shiny as 316L.
@PerthWAtch4 жыл бұрын
Cheers for that - I agree with all those sentiments actually. They have contacted me about the Z Titanium version, so I will look forward to receiving that one :) PS. BTW you mentioned "in house" movement? AFAIK this is a custom by Sea-Gull but would certainly not be considered in-house.
@ocb054 жыл бұрын
Perth WAtch agreed on your in house movement definition Ciga certainly isn't a watchmaking company. So calling it having seagull movement in house is my mistake. Designed by Chinese, movement by Chinese, and they won awards, it makes me happy that watches are no longer dominated by Japanese and westerners. Better than those micro brands that shamelessly faking their origins by sourcing eta or miyota or seiko movements then sourcing all other parts from China. Please make a short review on the titanium edition. I would definitely watch it!
