13 Hours Podcast: A Shattered Quiet | 1

Part 1: On Saturday, April 18, 2020, communities everywhere were on lockdown to stop the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, including the quiet, coastal town of Portapique, Nova Scotia, Canada. But a 51-year-old denturist with a violent past named Gabriel Wortman was about to shatter that peace.
On that night, he began a 13-hour shooting spree that would leave 22 innocent people dead at 16 different crime scenes across the province.
What started with an argument between Wortman and his long-time partner escalated quickly. Unimaginable devastation followed. When police arrived, several homes were burning and gunshots were ringing out.
Some police officers have described what they found when they arrived as “a war zone.” But the terror and the true impact of his crimes were only just beginning.

Well he did just snapped that night but he also prepared for this day. He knew he was going to go on a mass shooting but I don't think he knew which day. I'm sure he had a lot of days he came close before he snapped that night

No jo, Sarah, you done amazing job, well done! I have been to the six episode. It takes time to go through all of them but your job is worth it all of that. I live in Vienna, in Europe we have different problems of course not of this nature. But I used to live for 10 years in Alaska in remot area just like here Portapique and I even worked there as a patrol officer for over 4 years. Yes I saw things like that ( those red flags) all the time. And so many weird people living there and still moving in. I missed those quiet places but not necessarilly the weird part. The case of G.W. is so different and unusual how ppl can fall for such charming and smart dentist. And the incompetent police( RCMP) almost makes you believe that in taht area was conducted some kind of clandestine experiment on the living organism. Today nothing would suprise me at all. The only person you can trust today is Jesus and maybe your faithful dog. You cannot trust even yourself if you don't stick close to Jesus! That's my findings and beliefs Sarah today! And yours??? Here in Europe the sms system works pretty good if there is danger to the public we get sms/text on our phones also tv and radio. Why no texts on phones on April 18-19, 2020? That is simply impossible? And as a patrol man I knew all those Alaskan main and side roads. So that blueberry Field Rd. not known to the officers, impossible! Was there the experiment conducted? I guess that we would have never known, right? Not for us to know things like that? Nevertheles as long as we are capable of independent thinking then there is still some hope!!!

The RCMP officer in charge ran into woods to hide she was hysterical according to witness accounts tossed her flashlight as well

Wow, I didn't know that. You can hear her as one of the first responders to the scene but I didn't know that she hid in the forest. The timeline of the first few hours is still very cloudy but it sounds like there was only 3 RCMP officers during the first hour or more. They weren't prepared to handle this. In her case she should be fired. Reminds me of the Officer who refused to encounter the parkland shooter and he got fired

@@syiloman yea I agree but the problem is much bigger than one officer the RCMP would not talk to the public the shooter was involved with police I think rumer has it around NS he was an informant RCMP are still not talking to anyone even families of victims all huh hush the RCMP are being sued also The gunmans girlfriend supplied the ammo she is playing victim also It's a big cover-up here in NS Don't trust RCMP for anything. They were on stand down no choppers nothing 13 hours he had to kill at will no one even tried to stop him the female officer killed was ambushed by the gunman he knew she was going to be at that intersection he knew what the police were doing

Listen to the police scanner from that night, its on audio somewhere. The police responding didnt even know the streets. Its scary to think how people believe they are protected and then things like this happen and the gov response is to make people more defenceless by taking away their guns. The gov are sick. Being disarmed and defenceless does not make anyone safer.

he def prepared for this day. The fact that he made a complete copy of a police car would suggest he had this planned. Some of the people he killed were people he knew so it was a death list.

It IS pretty remarkable how fast he ignited so many houses and cars on fire. Gunning down groups of people around a campfire would be quick though. But the 9-1-1 call went out at 10pm and he was regarding police going through the field a half hour later. I’d be curious about when it began. A half hour to do the damage he did on the bay is hardly possible
