The ATF started the shootout by shooting the dogs and David Koresh when he opened the front door. The Davidians returned fire. Someone inside called the sherriff right away pleading for the ATF to stop shooting because of the woman and children inside but the ATF did not stop shooting until they ran out of ammo.

Automatic firearms are not completly illegal to possess. Pre 1986 automatic are fine with some vetting with NFA. Post 1986 automatics require speical license which is almost impossible for average US citizen to aquire but technically.still possible. I am not from US but even I know from most basicnresearch on us laws regarding gun ownership an use. Also believe it or not, ownership of automatic firearms for private citizens is also legally possible in other nations, such as Czech Republic, Estonia, Sweden, New Zealand, Norway, Cannada etc. Look it up yourselves.

David Koraesh was where he said he would be. At the front door to meet the agents. The Fed Agents planned 3! helicopters to create a diversion but they were an hour late. The agents circling the back first shot the compounds dogs (Alaskan Malamutes). That alarmed everyone at the front. Both think the other began firing. The agents shot at the front door, hitting koresh twice and killing the Davidian next to him. The Davidians quickly returned fire. This episode and Ruby Ridge, is a lesson for the Federal Agents. My only problem with the ATF/FBI, in this situation, is how poorly they executed the tactical attack. Unfortunately Delta Force unit can't operate on the US soil. If they went in, the siege would end up with Koresh's head on a stake and children alive. That´s debatable. Sure the fbi should have know that the people they are dealing with won´t come out, they are all so confident with koresh. The negoiater even say that after talking to them he believe they are very deep into the hole religus thing. But the negoiaters and rest of fbi didn´t seem to communicate well with each other. so in one way yes we can blame the goverment. However, the parents, the grown ups in that compound... They are killers aswell don´t you think? Some of them came out but with no children as pointed out in the video. Ofcourse it´s hard to put yourself in that position. Inside a building on fire, maybe you want to save someone but can´t (door ways blocked, fire is in the way except for an hole out of the compound). On a recent earthquake I grabbed my 14 year old dog and put her into safety. Not my computer with which I make a living, not any thing I consider of material value but the closest thing to me that I cannot replace. Vernon didn't put human beings in that vault, those were his "things" to be done as he pleased and who he couldn't give to the outside world because of the control he had over them and their value as a soon to be army (the kids were trained in weapon handling) against what he perceived to be the forces of evil. The FBI's biggest mistake was believing he'd come to reason at the last moment and let them escape but as it turns out his biggest worry was not letting the kids get taken away and for him not to suffer through the predicament he's the main culprit.

@@jasoncallow6151 well my friend in the netflix series ,my take on it was it portrayed both sides as being equally at fault ,but in my opinion this seige could have been resolved peacefully quite easliy ,but the government went in heavey handed and the davidians didnt exactly try to see the outcome of thier stubborness ,verdict could and should have been avoided a lot of people died including children .lessons should have been learnt but i doubt they were
