I'm surprised the estate agents could not have put out a warning of a man who was bogus, who was 'renting' property and then clearing off with the goods. Even the police could have warned them, as I know it was before the Net, then if he came in, they could have alerted the police - like when jewellery is stolen, and when the thief tries to sell it, the jeweller calls the police. It is amazing he got away with it so many times.
@rs-qt1qg2 жыл бұрын
I'm more surprised a case like this was featured on the show, definitely up there with one of the more bizarre ones ever featured! Also the internet was around back then, but of course it wasn't as widespread as it is now

@@treasurehunteruk9718 yeah that's pretty much what I meant regarding the internet point. Also don't forget money laundering law didn't exist, so no checks were probably made. It's because of stunts like this things got tougher
@treasurehunteruk97182 жыл бұрын
@@rs-qt1qg Estate Agents could even have put out a warning amongst themselves, so as to alert each other to the scammer. Even if it was by post, they could have warned each other. The POLICE could have issued warnings to Estate Agents, and newspapers could have covered the story. Life DID exist before the Internet. The police issued the warning about John Warboys, telling women not to take a drink from a taxi driver who tells you he has won the lottery. This stopped anyone else falling for his lies, who might not have heard of him, otherwise.
