You do realize that some material in some books is not age appropriate for children, right? Children are not merely just smaller versions of adults. If you are okay with this, you're part of what is wrong with the world today.
@unbreakable76332 сағат бұрын
@@meatpopsicle1567 Depends on the age of the child and I don't agree that children should be exposed to explicitly sexual material because how does that further their actual education. I also think schools should stick to actual educational subjects like history, math, literature, science. When the school board approves a book, that should be done with sensitivity to what you're saying and these issues would not arise. But a lot of the books people like this complain about where I live are not infrequently true classics. Objections were raised to To Kill a Mockingbird, to science books on evolution, and other clearly educational works and that's what I'm talking about. Still, I think it's funny a lot of these people object to books they've never read and rarely read books, so their opinions aren't worth much either. I think my father was right. He taught books that were once considered radical, like Voltaire's Candide, but are indeed classics. And I think both sides are what is wrong with the world. We're all becoming uncivilized.

They can either be sheltered and hovered over and held back by you parents only achieve said kids getting run over by the real world Or they can learn about real world type situations in controled, educational environments where they can ask questions and be prepared to be an adult. If something being taught is against your religious teachings still let the child learn about it. As a parent, your job is to educate your child about those beliefs and how the public teachings go against your religious truth. Making your children ignorant about things that are against your religion only makes them more susceptible to the evils of this world. Ignorance is not bliss, ignorance leads to victimization. Actually causing or abetting child pronography, child endangerment, and aiding or abetting the delinquency of a minor; are all actionable felony charges. As an author of adult themed material, I am required by law to put a disclaimer on every article, story or novel I write; that it is not to be read by any person under the age of full adult consent as applies to the location involved. In the United States, that is 18 to 21 depending on the jurisdiction. So, if the student is reading sexually explicit material at 17 years and 360 days, it is still a felony, and to be investigated by the law enforcement agencies from local to state to federal, depending on the situation. I am sorry, Porn does NOT belong in schools, I don't care how you dress it up. This is different than teaching a Human Sexuality course, where it is informative. This is for titillation, and sexualzation of minors. There is a HUGE difference both legally and morally.

Knowing the title of the book would be really helpful. But what, the child is a senior and is starting to be expected to hear ideas that are new & different, and revolutionary to their minds. Can't protect kids forever. (I remember how shocked I was at age 60+ to learn on the World Wide Web that Abraham Lincoln was considered by some People/Southerners to be a Traitor. Somehow, I withstood the shock & Trauma.)

The police investigating a classroom assignment shows they're part of the problem in America and not the solution. I do believe all of these people need to grow up and leave this teacher alone and let her do her job of educating your kids... The kids seem to be the adults here and if you did a good job rearing your kids they'll be just fine. If you tell them they can't read any book they'll just want to read it more.

If by educating you mean, violating the parental rights of other people to make a political point and earn likes on your social media, you're on the wrong side of the argument.

@brucehall... Gilbert is pte-dominantly Mormon with seminaries directly across the street from "every" level school covertly acting as babysitters while fathers work 2-3 jobs & mother's care for the other half of their kids at home. It is not uncommon to see Mormon families at Walmart or Costco with an average of 7 kids. Unfortunately, Mormons have lost children by forgetting to count they are all out of the pool or hot car. Gilbert & surrounding towns were settled by Mormons in 1912.

There are books being presented to school kids that ARE pornographic. I heatd one read out loud in a house meeting by a legislator. It was vile.. If this is the case, I hope the tescher & school is criminally charged. I have no sympathy for that teachet.

So a lawsuit was threatened bc a permission slip was not obtained for a book that was approved reading for an AP class. Did you check your child’s social media, and texts for sexually explicit material too?

Just curious if the people outraged by this book banning would be open to elective courses where the required reading would be works by Ben Shapiro, Larry Elder, Thomas Sowell, Bernard Goldberg, Harry Stein, and Shelby Steele if the books were presented in the exact same manner for discussion as this here teacher does in HER class. Just wondering

I honestly have mixed emotions about this. The fact that it’s an elective course for older students and that’s not required reading to graduate, well that tells me there shouldn’t be a problem here. Those who object should put their children in other classes. Whether or not it’s indoctrination, I cannot say because I’m not watching the teacher or reading the book in the class, so I don’t know what goes on. However, I would toss this one out to all the people defending the teacher and the people who are so outraged over “book banning.” Those of you who are so critical of right wing, religious parents, objecting to the material in the book, and yes, I agree that filing a police report was going wasaaaayyy overboard, , Let me remind everyone that so many people who claim that grade school and high school book banning is fascistic, seem to have NO PROBLEMS when conservative speakers are banned from college campuses to “protect” young adults who require safe spaces so as not to hear ideas that make them uncomfortable and literally accusing speakers of committing acts of violence simply by promoting v conservative and/or religious values.

That "parent" can always homeschool, or a private catholic school (affordable compared to christian academies). This was an AP college course, this kid is "too young" to take college courses, at least according to his "parent".

Once you allow your child to enroll into college level classes you lose your right to dictate their education in my opinion. I think the parents misunderstand what a college level course actually is, especially in the humanities. If it is in-fact against the law, then I would think that the next course of action is to stop teaching the entire course.
