You do realize that some material in some books is not age appropriate for children, right? Children are not merely just smaller versions of adults. If you are okay with this, you're part of what is wrong with the world today.
@unbreakable7633
@unbreakable7633 2 сағат бұрын
@@meatpopsicle1567 Depends on the age of the child and I don't agree that children should be exposed to explicitly sexual material because how does that further their actual education. I also think schools should stick to actual educational subjects like history, math, literature, science. When the school board approves a book, that should be done with sensitivity to what you're saying and these issues would not arise. But a lot of the books people like this complain about where I live are not infrequently true classics. Objections were raised to To Kill a Mockingbird, to science books on evolution, and other clearly educational works and that's what I'm talking about. Still, I think it's funny a lot of these people object to books they've never read and rarely read books, so their opinions aren't worth much either. I think my father was right. He taught books that were once considered radical, like Voltaire's Candide, but are indeed classics. And I think both sides are what is wrong with the world. We're all becoming uncivilized.

A recent criminal complaint in Arizona centers around the book "Beyond Magenta," which was assigned for a school reading. The book, a nonfiction work detailing the experiences of transgender teenagers, has been deemed by some parents as inappropriate due to its sexual content. This has led to efforts to have the book removed from the school's curriculum, citing concerns that it promotes gender fluidity and is too explicit for students. Similar challenges to the book have occurred in other states.

The best way for parents to control what their kids are exposed to is to keep them at home. This thing where you send your kids outside the home to be taught by professionals just to complain that they’re doing it wrong is baffling. I can’t wrap my mind around the entitlement. Also, regardless of politics, beliefs, etc, everyone whose taxes are funding that police department should be pissed that their money is being wasted on this “investigation.” That law should be updated to stipulate that violations be reported to and investigated by a school board or other education authority (if that kind of caveat is even possible/legal 👀).

If any of those parents believe that an entirely elective honors class, or entirely elective Independent Study is wrong for their child, then do not approve of their schedule. These are not required classes, but they do help get kids into college. Those parents want their kids to have the prestige of college-level studies in high school, but they don’t want them to learn anything. And what happens to children who learn about the sordidness and dirtiness in life later? How are the able to deal with it with something other than shock? Or do they just hide their heads in the sand, don't look and just do everything to live their clean, nice, pretty lives leaving victims of sexual depravity to suffer? They can either be sheltered and hovered over and held back by you parents only achieve said kids getting run over by the real world Or they can learn about real world type situations in controled, educational environments where they can ask questions and be prepared to be an adult. If something being taught is against your religious teachings still let the child learn about it. As a parent, your job is to educate your child about those beliefs and how the public teachings go against your religious truth. Making your children ignorant about things that are against your religion only makes them more susceptible to the evils of this world. Ignorance is not bliss, ignorance leads to victimization. Prepare your children to be good and educated adults. Dont turn them into ignorant, incompetent, adult- babies.

Actually causing or abetting child pronography, child endangerment, and aiding or abetting the delinquency of a minor; are all actionable felony charges. As an author of adult themed material, I am required by law to put a disclaimer on every article, story or novel I write; that it is not to be read by any person under the age of full adult consent as applies to the location involved. In the United States, that is 18 to 21 depending on the jurisdiction. So, if the student is reading sexually explicit material at 17 years and 360 days, it is still a felony, and to be investigated by the law enforcement agencies from local to state to federal, depending on the situation. I am sorry, Porn does NOT belong in schools, I don't care how you dress it up. This is different than teaching a Human Sexuality course, where it is informative. This is for titillation, and sexualzation of minors. There is a HUGE difference both legally and morally.

I hope she is reprimanded for not following school procedures and policies. No teacher is above following the rules.

I would suggest that the uptight father, afraid his son might read adult literature, enroll him instead in an uptight religious cult school where content is more strictly monitored. Because the world definately needs more uptight young people who've not been exposed to actual life. 🤦

There is no reason for sexually explicit books in schools or on a reading list. Let kids stay kids for as long as we can. The parent(s) that complained are doing their job, those who believe they are going to learn sooner or later don’t understand that a child’s brain is not like an adults.

Any teacher that is willing and qualified to teach due enrollment (college credit) classes should be coveted. This just one reason AZ is ranked 51st in education with the 5th largest city in the United States. The pay is ridiculously low. Funding for schools is ridiculously low. Vouchers turned out a ridiculous money grab. And there is always the potential to take copious amounts of crap from extremist parents. Why would anyone choose to teach here?!?!?!

There are some mentions of books in other articles- The Bluest Eye and Perks of Being a Wallflower. I didn’t see any mention of what’s in the complaint. Harassing a literature teacher for listing works of literature is the real crime. She should sue them for defamation for calling her a groomer that’s so harmful and bullying.

He should know his child already knows what in the book. The kid is senior it time to be open to conversations about the topic. I bet what the kid read was seen in a movie on social media and in conversations with friends. Give the kid credit and understand more is known than he thinks. Is he going to do the same when the kid goes to college.

Okay first off it's a college level course so it would be assumed that it would be books and literature more commonly associated with that you would find in college and seeing how 99% of all the people in college are over the age of 18 it shouldn't be that big of a deal. But also with that being said we still don't know what the books were and there are a lot of books regardless if it's a college level or not should not be subject to kids under the age of 18 without parental consent I don't care if their birthday was tomorrow the parents should know beforehand at least email them or send a letter home S&M to review the book you know give them about a week or 3 to 4 days to look at it at least get information about it and see if they're comfortable with it.

Knowing the title of the book would be really helpful. But what, the child is a senior and is starting to be expected to hear ideas that are new & different, and revolutionary to their minds. Can't protect kids forever. (I remember how shocked I was at age 60+ to learn on the World Wide Web that Abraham Lincoln was considered by some People/Southerners to be a Traitor. Somehow, I withstood the shock & Trauma.)

The police investigating a classroom assignment shows they're part of the problem in America and not the solution. I do believe all of these people need to grow up and leave this teacher alone and let her do her job of educating your kids... The kids seem to be the adults here and if you did a good job rearing your kids they'll be just fine. If you tell them they can't read any book they'll just want to read it more.

@brucehall... Gilbert is pte-dominantly Mormon with seminaries directly across the street from "every" level school covertly acting as babysitters while fathers work 2-3 jobs & mother's care for the other half of their kids at home. It is not uncommon to see Mormon families at Walmart or Costco with an average of 7 kids. Unfortunately, Mormons have lost children by forgetting to count they are all out of the pool or hot car. Gilbert & surrounding towns were settled by Mormons in 1912.

I honestly have mixed emotions about this. The fact that it’s an elective course for older students and that’s not required reading to graduate, well that tells me there shouldn’t be a problem here. Those who object should put their children in other classes. Whether or not it’s indoctrination, I cannot say because I’m not watching the teacher or reading the book in the class, so I don’t know what goes on. However, I would toss this one out to all the people defending the teacher and the people who are so outraged over “book banning.” Those of you who are so critical of right wing, religious parents, objecting to the material in the book, and yes, I agree that filing a police report was going wasaaaayyy overboard, , Let me remind everyone that so many people who claim that grade school and high school book banning is fascistic, seem to have NO PROBLEMS when conservative speakers are banned from college campuses to “protect” young adults who require safe spaces so as not to hear ideas that make them uncomfortable and literally accusing speakers of committing acts of violence simply by promoting v conservative and/or religious values.

Once you allow your child to enroll into college level classes you lose your right to dictate their education in my opinion. I think the parents misunderstand what a college level course actually is, especially in the humanities. If it is in-fact against the law, then I would think that the next course of action is to stop teaching the entire course.
