@jackalvarez7428speak for yourself. I constantly have to defend myself against that dude that tries to mess with me and kill me when i drink, just last week one beer then a vague memory of blood LITERALLY spraying out 1/2 inches from my foot (dove into the harbor to *try and fail* to catch the friends glasses i d thrown in, sorry he'd thrown in, to see if they floated. Well they don't, and fyi if you're ever on the cote d azur in cavalaire in france dont walk barefoot in the water in the harbor, first of all there's that grey green liquid there that looks entirely different from the sea line 10m away but more importantly they'll be broken glass everywhere and jellyfish. And the first one is annoying as hell and time consuming (of course he didn't think to get an ambulance to stich me up on the spot i patched myself up like a big boy and here i am with a still open (not oozing tho) wound 1-2 weeks later. I literally stepped of our (parked) boat and made one freaking step, didn't notice anything until 10sec after i climbed back on the boat i turned around and there was literally blood on every single cm2 of the boat, draining from the drainage hole into the sea. A cop patrolling gave me a "i really couldn't care less of your stupid mistakes" look, and coming back, 10m later me still trying to stop the spray (lost a LOT of blood) my friends were smoking cigs having a good time and the policeman came torwards us, looked at my blood filled ted bundy style boat and said "don't throw these in the water eh?" Jackass, seriously it could have been well serious i definitely cut some big vessel if it had been a larger one idk maybe further up the leg (yeah i can totally cut my groin artery while drunk and swimming, no question) it could have been an emergency.

I also went to HS with a killer and his victim. He stalked her, and killed her while free, with an arrest warrant, and he had jumped bail. He had a record a mile long, and was hiding out at his mother’s. The local and state cops never even checked his mother’s house to see if he was there. The victim was one of the nicest, coolest, free spirits who believed in non-violence. A crying shame.

I will say that unfortunately some women have been killed for outright rejecting a man, so part of why women are often "nice about it" or "let him down gently" is a sense of preservation. There honestly is no one single solution in terms of how the woman can act to make this stuff not happen, because the problem is the man. (and it isnt always a man and a woman ofc, just saying because of this case).

Yes, that's good practice generally. However, I hope for your sake you also understand that people like this don't take no for an answer or feel an ounce of respect for anyone, regardless of the strength or weakness they possess. I know, I've dealt with someone half this bad, which is plenty scary. Telling them no was never enough and they don't possess any semblance of shame. If anything, being direct and firm only results in them acting crazier in response. It can result in putting yourself in even more danger.

One night a dude I dated for less than a month left me just one threatening voicemail when I refused to see him and I called 9-1-1. The cops showed up, then told me to go to court and file a temporary restraining order that I did mere hours later. In court, I found out I was the third woman he had either threatened or been violent with. Nine months later he was sent to prison for doing something worse to someone else. The detective wanted to know why I acted so quickly. I had seen things as a kid, so I did not play around.

One thing I've noticed consistently for decades is that the way a guy handles rejection is a strong predictor for how dangerous they are. If his response to an early "no" is to call a woman ugly, undesirable, or promiscuous (in far less polite terms), that's not just a red flag, that's a blinking red DEFCON 1 alert with a 100dB civil defense air raid klaxon. The guys who respond in that way are never anything but the worst kind of trouble, and that's when it's time to tell everyone you know what just happened, hunker down, and start taking extra precautions.

So one of the details I dont think they mention in the JCS one, is he actually planned the murder with the garbage pick up schedule. The reason the other parts of her body weren't found is because the garbage had already been picked up, the one that hadn't was purely because the cops were so heavy the garbage truck couldn't get in at that moment. It's frightening to think he legitimately almost got away with it if her friends hadn't of been so immediately concerned.
@Terri_MacKay
@Terri_MacKay Жыл бұрын
Came here to comment this. It was just Stephen's bad luck that the police cars blocked the driveway, causing the garbage truck to pass by the house. I also read that the garbage truck was running late that day. Had it been on time, the police cars wouldn't have arrived yet and blocked the driveway, and the garbage would have been picked up. It just wasn't Stephen's day.

@eddiesaviarycom-fu9me you could try, but thats a near impossible task. Her body is in pieces, picked up in several trucks in different garbage bins mixed with many more garbage bins before being mixed into a whole ass landfill. It's a needle in a haystack.
@Crmson117
@Crmson117 Жыл бұрын
Her torso was discovered around 9:40 am right after the search was started and the garbage truck arrived moments after that discovery. The garbage truck was running about an hour late so any other day of that week, month, or year her body would have been gone about an hour before the search started. It's chilling how he would have gotten away with it if that truck was even close to being on time. (Edited to add that they weren't late, the police were blocking the cans because her friends were so on top of things and already had them there investigating. If the cop cars were not there no body or piece of one would have been found.)

I supervised several stalkers on probation. They were beyond creepy. It was before ring cameras, before the internet. Went right back to stalking her.

One of my friends heard a guy who would get up in the crawl space of the block of units she lived in. There were five units in a row and the roof went all the way along. One night her boyfriend was over when they heard someone up there. Her BF quietly got a chair and popped the cover and heaved himself into the space and tackled the dude while my friend called the police. They had fun getting the handcuffed dude out through the manhole in her kitchen roof. The other residents had also heard things but thought it was possums, but never a person. They found little holes drilled in the roof near light fittings that he had been peeping through. I can't remember what the charges were but I know he went to jail.

I dated someone who became my stalker. I worked 2 jobs, 80hrs a week, rarely a full day off. She would drive by my jobs to make sure my car was there, and would call my job, not cell, to "talk". When I ended things, she broke into my house, stole a whole lot of stuff, from rent money to groceries, shower curtain and towels, and even my puppy. She and her siblings smear dog crap all over my apartment. This was on Thanksgiving while I was out of town with family for the day, then called me and said I hope you like your house. I had a stalker back in my early 20’s. I had went on one date with the guy and we had also known each other from middle and high school. The date was weird and I tried to politely tell him I wasn’t interested in another date or a relationship. He didn’t get it. Thank God I had an awesome older brother, who’s friends were also pretty much like my brothers. The stalker decided to tailgate me one night, flashing his high beams and trying to run me off of the road. I called my brother, obviously terrified, and he told me to keep driving until I got to a certain gas station a short distance away. When I came pulling in, so did the stalker. He didn’t see that my brother and 9 other cornbread fed country boys were waiting on his crazy a**. No violence towards him happened but it scared him enough to stop it! Everyone needs a big brother like I was blessed with. Unfortunately, I just lost him on June 7th to a car accident. My world will never be the same and the grief is awful. tbh, that childhood of "tyler punched you at recess because he likes you" gets internalized way more than people realise... esp if they had family like this. and from experience, kids from really f'ed up families tend to scare away 'normal family' kids when those kids realise HOW bad their new friend's life is. meaning that only those of us already used to messed up situations are tolerant... so there is no "not messed up" life... and it's just normal.

I was stalked as a high schooler 20 years ago. The guy came into my place of work and just hung out and waited for me to get off work. We had witnesses and video evidence that he was waiting in the parking lot. The police came and said they couldn't do anything unless he attacked me. The state I lived in did not have stalking charges back then, but they do now. I hope the laws continue to evolve to protect people.

When he stopped showing up on the cameras even as a drive by, I was escorted out by store security for another week or so and then they stopped because they didn't have the time to keep doing it. Fortunately nothing came of that, but I realize I'm very lucky that it did not go further.

I was stalked by my ex-husband for 2 years. Even after he remarried he continued to stalk, harass & threaten me. I got a VPO & he continually violated it. He even called me from the backseat of a police car after being arrested. Sgt. Dumbass was in the front seat while my ex was screaming at me on his cell phone. He would fill up my answering machine with threats. It took months to finally go to trial & the ONLY thing that stopped him was prison. Ladies, do EVERYTHING legally in your power to stop stalking behavior. Document EVERYTHING and always press charges. Your life will depend on the actions you take. Only YOU can protect yourself.

RIP, Lauren. Having been a woman for 37 years, I can tell you straight up that being "blunt and strong" with creeps like this, even if it's just a "no, thank you", with no attitude or anything, can escalate to violence. It's amazing how quickly some men will go from hitting on you to threatening you in the spance of a moment when faced with rejection. The mental and emotional arithmetics women have to go through in every encounter like this to placate fragile damaged men's egos is insane, and for many of us it happens on a day to day basis. Ladies, if you feel creeped out consistently by a dude, don't be "firm", call for help. Get your dad, your brother, your male cousin, literally any male you can trust to stay with you or pop by regularly. It's unfortunate, but in my experience it's the only way to deter creeps like this. They do not respect women or even the idea that women are whole ass human beings with agency. They see us as objects/property, and they will back off quickly when they see you are "owned" by someone else (another male) 🙄 I honestly wonder how anyone can defend this guy besides a straight up insanity plea.

Very well put. 🖐️🌹 I concur, we could do a whole thread of stories. I was at a WOMEN'S motorcycle gathering years ago (c 1992) and one of the women's (the event organizers/hosts) HUSBANDS was there as a "helper/volunteer" to answer questions. As I asked directions, he leaned in and draped his arm around my shoulders. I immediately backed away and held up my hands and said "Sorry, but I don't like strangers putting their hands on me" (the "sorry" was probably a mistake in hindsight) first he was apologetic, THEN wanted to be insulted and argue about it. I walked off and got directions from someone else.

For those of you who are unaware (I have no idea why JCS played dumb on this, it was brought up at trial and is easily Googleable) but Steven had been expressing for YEARS that he felt he could get away with murder by doing almost exactly what he did here. The video of Lauren's apartment was his attempt to see why he couldn't unlock her door. She had bought a burglar bar and felt safe for the first time in months. The day after her murder was the day she was supposed to move to New York to be with her long term boyfriend. Edit: Oh, I forgot, THEY ALSO FOUND CP ON HIS COMPUTER. Edit 2: Please go check out Dave's Lemonade; Matt Orchard and dreading who all (I believe) covered this case (and if they didn't, cover cases that JCS has covered without the missing info). Thank you for this. My daughter had/has a stalker. She dated him for 11 days and she broke it off and he threatened to kill her and all of us. He did so much trauma to her mentally that she’s scared of someone jumping out from a room to get her. This is truly scary. She lives with this everyday.

Aikido. Tell her to take classes. Best for up close hand-to-hand combat. I threw a HUGE guy in our class over my shoulder and it was so easy. I quit after 2 months but it is eye-opening. She is not defenseless if she is prepared. And she can take self-defense classes too. Cameras and alarms everywhere with motion detection. Alert neighbors to keep an eye out for strange people or vehicles in the neighborhood.

I hope nothing ever happens to you guys or her. My sister had a stalker. Difference is we're kind of different and she chose to keep it secret for awhile because she was afraid we'd hurt him. It's best to file a report with police and get a restraining order and tell family and if you're afraid still and of age and it's legal where you live self defense via fire arm is the way to go. God forbid someone is in danger, they call police with guns....better to have someone who already has one there then aint it?

@@shannoninalaskaThis is not realistic. My mom hip tossed my dad too in the house when he was not expecting it and threw his back out when I was a kid. But she could not take him 1 vs 1 and he was a skinny guy. My father was an abusive crack addicted prick until she kicked him out. She fought back constantly for 14 years but he never tried to hurt her more than bruises and bumps on the head, but he could have easily. She even used a hammer on him, cut him with a screw driver and more before. The strength difference between men and women is beyond what you think it is. Men hold back significantly especially in training doing martial arts. There is no amount of martial arts that will close this gap if a man wants to harm you. A 16 year old male is already stronger than or just as strong as an adult female. You should be way more cautious of bad men that exist than you currently are. I'm telling you this for your own safety. As men we know this, hence why men run to help women in conflict with men. Idk what's wrong with some women and the fear of thinking to learn to use a fire arm but you're totally cool trying to physically fight off a person 90% stronger than you. The logic is insane. The average man is stronger than 97.5% of women.

@@shannoninalaska Aikido? Sigh. 95/100 times a man is gonna overpower a woman, we cannot deny biological facts, dear. And you threw a guy while you were training, not in a real life, HIGH STAKES, life or d*ath situation. Completely different. The security part I agree with tho. I HIGHLY suggest OP’s daughter gets the ultimate equalizer, buys a pewpew, and takes plenty of courses since you can find them everywhere. Been using them my entire life, I pack everyday, & am always aware of my surroundings. Taken course after course & go to the range constantly. I’m a mountain of a woman and have been apart of an MMA gym (mainly straight boxing & BJJ classes) for the last 4yrs, but I’m not a _fool._ A couple of 40cal HP’s will stop anyone in their tracks. I will never go anywhere without mine. My fiancé & I have had some close calls at night in sketchy areas, I could tell you stories for days and the *only* thing that saved our lives..? Guess what it was? You got it. Four separate incidents and each time, the hand cannon came out and they scattered like roaches. As a woman, I take *zero* CHANCES. If I perceive someone as a real threat, my trusty companion is coming out of its holster.

My daughter had a stalker who turned out to be some guy who had a whole alternative life story as an escapee from a cult. Everyone thought he was this brave soul but she thought something was off and tried to avoid him. The more boundaries she put in place, the more aggressive he became. Eventually he got caught sleeping in a church and arrested. Turned out he had been reported missing from another state by his family and fiancé who had been looking for him for a year. The claim was he had some sort of mental breakdown and invented a whole new crazy and complicated life for himself to get sympathy and charity. We were just lucky it didn’t escalate with her any further than it did. Being firm doesn’t always help. She worked with the guy and couldn’t avoid him. Finally quit her job but even that didn’t stop him. They worked in the same small industry. Run ins were inevitable. He made sure of that. Just as we were about to involve police, the arrest happened. After that, he disappeared into the arms of his family presumably and back to his home state but he was exposed and wouldn’t be able to come into the community again.

My ex-husband stalked me after our divorce. He would drive past my work to check where I was (he worked nearby), but my car was parked behind the building and you could only see it if you drove in and around the back. On day after visitation, the kids asked me why I wasn't at work on Friday. I was at work but I had gone out at lunchtime to go to the chemist. Apparently he had asked the kids why I wasn't at work because he couldn't see my car. A couple of months later it was my birthday and he asked me out to the movies a week before. I said no. He insisted. I repeated the NO. He turned up on the evening, expecting me to be ready and I refused to open the door and that I WAS NOT GOING!!! "But...but... my parents are going to look after the kids and two of our friends are waiting for me." I told him I don't care I am NOT GOING!. He got angry and yelled at me through the door. I told him to leave or I would call the cops. Over the next few months he would drive down our street and I would see him do it. I asked the police and they verified that it was stalking and gave me advice on what to do. Two months later I packed the kids up and moved and didn't tell him until the day I left the house I was renting and moved in with my parents 3 hours away. He stopped paying child support so I got his wages garnished after 3 months. He has reported me to DHS (Department of Human Services - Child safety in Australia) and they made my life hell until the kids turned 18. When both developed type 1 diabetes it was MY FAULT even though his mum is a type 1 diabetic and there isn't any on my family. My kids and I still have issues with PTSD, and since we are all on the Autism spectrum and have ADHD it just made it all worse. Its been 17 years and I still have nightmares about the night he threatened my kids and he offered to leave and I called his bluff and changed the locks. During the divorce he was being a hard arse over the split of assets etc and even had a go at my lawyer during discussions until HIS lawyer told him to shut up or walk away because my lawyer was ready to have him brought up on charges and he would support her in doing it because he was being an idiot. I have peace now, but I still have the physical and mental scars. Back in 2004 there weren't the services for DV that there is now. After my divorce a lot of things changed, public awareness increased , better services for battered families, easier reporting, financial help and so on which was missing when I needed it. Stalking isn't funny, it isn't harmless, it is a fucking nightmare.

I can attest that tech has made stalking easier for creeps. My abusive stalker ex used one of those horrible apps that disguises your phone number to disguise his number as one of my friends’ numbers so he could call me or leave me creepy voicemails because I had blocked his number and all his SM accounts. It got so bad that I asked all my friends to say something that only we would know when they sent me a message so I would know it was them. That was before I got the restraining order

I think it's crazy how there are women like you who go through stuff like this and then envoke an order and then there is my ex who did the same because of one time shouting (28y/o having fear for the first time in her life, according to her). It frustrated the hell out of me to see how easy it is for a woman to use the system (courts/police) against men and you will look like an idiot whether you're right or not. But stuff like this shows me these orders still get served enough to the right people, too. I'm so sorry you had to go through this, I cant imagine how paranoid one must become if you never know if it's really your friends talking to you or not
