David gives insight as to what goes on inside the mind of someone who leads such a double life, telling Julia Letby is likely driven by control and power.

Yes, this is one of many puzzling aspects. The doctors, who suspected her even after they were aggressively rebuffed by the managers, could have acted on their own initiative. Installing a hidden video camera is not rocket science, and some are tiny. Letby herself, being cunning, might have suspected something. But it appears that they didn't even try. Why not?

Did you see the BBC News article from 2022 about an inspection after Lucy was in prison on remand, and about departments she didn't have anything to do with, that said The Care Quality Commission (CQC) found the Countess of Chester hospital's maternity services had deteriorated to "inadequate" following the dinspection in February and March 2022. Findings show the area is "lacking in staff" and "suitable equipment" and that the health trust failed to learn from previous safety incidents. It said between April and November last year five patients had major haemorrhages after giving birth at the hospital, resulting in a need for unplanned hysterectomies. Not all those incidents were reported as serious and action plans were not completed quickly, the CQC said, and one patient's lifesaving surgery was delayed as there was no hysterectomy kit in that part of the hospital.

One of the problems is a poor understanding of maths. If you remove all the cases of babies becoming ill or dying for clear reasons, and you look at the rest, then if a nurse, doctor, whoever is there in every case, then it doesn't take long for it to be almost certain that they are committing these crimes. Let's say Letby worked for just over forty hours a week. Since care is given twenty four hours a day, then she will have been working just one in four of these hours (40 or so divided into the total number of hours in a week, which is 168). This means that the chance she would be present when a particular suspicious event occurs is one-in-four. So to be there when two events occur is one-in-sixteen. When five events have occurred the chances that Letby would be present at all of them is over a thousand to one. Time to phone the police, I think. Six events? That would be four thousand to one. By the time we get to eight events, the chance is well over a sixty-four thousand to one. In other words Letby might as well be put in prison straight away. The chances that she's innocent are far too small to take seriously. Ten events? Well over a million to one. Anyone opposing the idea of bringing the police in long before this is totally callous, or they don't know these odds. Fifteen? Well over a billion to one.

I have yet to meet any NHS doctor that shows empathy, towards patients, most are two faced and dishonest with patients. I spent 30 years living with the repeated symptoms of an undiagnosed congenital heart condition because of dismissive NHS medical staff who labelled my symptoms as entrenched story on my medical files in order to influence other doctors into diagnostic overshadowing my physical health needs, one doctor even informed the nurse that I was a waste of space and then went on to physically assault me whilst he was smirking to himself. What is shocking is the level and length the NHS will go to in order to cover up wrong doing with a complaint system that is bias in favour of NHS, hence no staff is held accountable and mistakes cannot be learnt from. AND we see this today a nurse murdering babies. It comes as no shock.

Not a great interview as Ms Hartley-Brewer seems more interested in expressing her own views on the case than hearing those of Dr Holmes. It made it a bit of an arm-wrestle and a slightly uncomfortable watch. The most authoritative psychologist I have so far seen giving a professional opinion on motive was a young Asian guy on 5 News. He also said it was probably about 'power and control' or, perhaps, 'hatred'. I agree with him about "power and control". The drive for that is never far below the surface in even our most apparently benign behaviour is it? Disagree about 'hatred' as the possible motive though:- stable life with supportive parents in first world country to which she is indigenous; said country still dominated (numerically at least) by her 'own' group. Can't see any real scope for the systematic negative social interactions capable of engendering out-and-out misanthropy in a twenty-something. Having now gotten past the initial 'mind-rape' shockingness of the case, and able to actually process it, I think part of the explanation for this is the society we live in. Modern UK society has become one where - in the interests of generating economic growth - the only real crime in life is getting caught. Boris Johnson's antics in recent years might be the best illustrative example of what I mean. That created the environment for Letby to contemplate in gratifying her psychological needs in such a monstrous way because she felt confident she could get away with it. That she was more likely motivated by convenience and low risk than the inner compulsion to kill of the classic serial killer is evident in the absence of any disclosure that she showed criminal intent towards babies or other vulnerable persons in the two years between being being stood down from neo-natal care and her arrest - the police appear to have trawled every aspect of her adult years in microscopic detail seeking evidence so I think they would have noticed. Millennials and subsequent generations live trivial social media oriented lives with commensurably superficial dopamine-hit goals. Most pertinently, they lack the inner life necessary to fully support a sense of emotional consequences independent of the sanctions of outside world. It is only wrong if you get caught and she didn't expect to. She did this because she could.

Women tend not to commit serial murders. Both Allit and Letby were serial killers. When women kill, they tend to kill one individual and leave it there - no matter how abhorrent the crime is. It's rare that men commit serial murders and it's even more rare when women do it. The justice system measures risk to society as a whole. Letby is clearly a risk to society as a whole; hence the whole life tariff

Spot on. The fact there's people saying the case is confusing, doesn't add up and that criminologists have said this, thought that. No they haven't we understand how sociopaths, psychopaths, narcissists and even empaths think and operate. It is only confusing and odd to the people who do not understand what a psychopath or serial killer truly is. It's all part of the game, act like an angel, fit into society and become a master at blending in while pulling the wool over the masses. Lucy Letby is to me not a full blown Psychopath if one at all, but is certainly borderline personality (BPD) to some degree and on the extreme side of the narcissistic personality type. She absolutely understands human emotion, she absolutely understands how to manipulate that and how to take advantage of social and psychological patterns in order for them to best suit her needs dependent on the situation. Narcissists are expert manipulators who often target empathic people as a way to blend in as others pass it off as oh well if an Empath accepts them they must be alright, wrong. Although I am still very much a rookie in terms of the Criminology field I am certainly no idiot and made this analysis of her from day one. I heard people saying we don't know she could be innocent, she is innocent she didn't do it. Nope I was convinced from the get go she had done it and she was wearing a mask which many fell for which is common. This experts analysis and psychology reading of her personality is 100% spot on and I see it in a lot of people who aren't killers but are certainly not very pleasant narcissists more prone to being anti-social and violent in small bouts but have regret which she shows none of. However she does understand emotions, enough to write down those notes admitting it. She has (BPD) not a full blown psychopath and was likely playing on it to try and manipulate the outcome which it didn't.

She was demonic, her jealousy about the fact she didn't have kids and probably would never experience having her own family brought the demonic side out of her. People say she was sweet and innocent because they'd never or rarely seen her alter ego, that side was always there but buried and those combination of circumstances brought it to the surface. People are saying she was a pretty blonde but I bet she didn't see herself the same way.

OK. But doesn't it bother you that she hasn't been proven guilty of anything? All they have against her is circumstantial evidence. Where is YOUR evidence that she is a sociopath, psychopath, narcissist or anything else? You're basing YOUR belief on a conviction that is based upon circumstantual evidence and conjecture. Don't you find that worrying? That an innocent nurse could be sitting in prison for the rest of her life because she was in the wrong place at the wrong time?

I don't think she's innocent - it's impossible to know. But I do know beyond all doubt that she hasn't been proven guilty. She has been convicted based upon conjecture and circumstantial evidence. In the absense of proof of guilt she is SUPPOSED to be presumed innocent. So, this case proves that anyone that happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time could end up in Letby's shoes. No proof of guilt needed. And that's a huge concern.

I love his analysis of a psychopath/sociopath searching for what stimulates them (a purpose if you will). A very good explanation. Just my theory, but I think her perverse behavior was possibly brought on by a gradual or sudden change in her brain (tumor/lession/biochemistry). I hope scientists get to study her brain, as this may end up becoming a breakthrough case of what brings about this type of behavior for some perpetrators.
