As for the vandals. Part of their punishment should also be full restitution of the cost of repairing the assets. It doesn't matter if they don't have any money now, a judgement should be levied against them and that judgement should follow them for the rest of their lives, until the debt is paid. That means if they ever have a job, their wages are garnished, if they ever get a tax return, the debt is paid first from those proceeds, etc.

These acts of destruction are criminal but why now? Two issues here. First, this is occurring, in my opinion because the balance of wealth is moving beyond society’s tolerance for the wealthiest displaying, maybe even flaunting their wealth in light of the avg. persons struggles. The other, I suspect related to the Waltons specifically, who were raised by the most common and frugal man, are now showing their great wealth while the avg. Walmart employee is simply surviving and their healthcare subsidized by the American taxpayer. I believe in the American dream but perhaps the scales are saying too much money for the few.

Most people cannot afford even a meal on the dockside where these craft dock. We are living through unprecedented inequalities between the have-most and the have-little. Paint won't destroy these boats. It may delay a cocktail party. Nothing more. Listen to people who ask for help. Even if the request is posed through "vandalism". If you are able to help yourself, then help others too.
