I think there's always this feeling you get if you create a motor that was never built that you may blow it up,I have a VL Commodore fitted with a Nissan RB30DE which I built 11- 12 years ago and I run it with the RB25 computer from an R33 Skyline,well on January 1 2004 when my brother & I fired the engine up and took it for a drive,well, it wouldn't rev past 2000 RPM and was fouling spark plugs up. I went through all the diagnostics which kept on spitting out a code 12 for the MAF meter,well we went back to the Toyshop auto wreckers when they were at Cardiff in Newcastle and asked if we could try another MAF meter,well the problem was the same and I checked that the wiring continuity in the loom was o.k. so we decided the car needed another ECU as that was faulty. They didn't have a RB25DE ECU in stock so they had to order one in for $300 (ouch !!!) as I wrecked the RB25 for its pistons,oil pump and cylinder head assy and just used the RB30 crankshaft & conrods,also the engine would've been out of warranty anyway so I tried a Nissan RB20DET ECU which was chipped for HKS cams but no good as the engine stalled when I put it into gear and let the clutch out. So I borrowed a stock R32 Nissan RB20DET ECU as they use the same fuel injector impedence,flow rate,etc as the RB25DE and the ECU ran the engine no worries albeit the idle was high as the throttle position switch is different though could've been made to run using the automatic part if the switch as the R33's TPS has variable resistance and the automatic part of it is separate and is like the RB30E one (same as R32 RB20DET TPS) so the idle was higher than normal,it would've also meant the VVT solenoid wouldn't work too. Now after the engine was run in I decided to redline it in each gear to 7000 RPM to see how it went, well after I hit 3rd gear I see all this smoke pour out of the exhaust pipe and red & blue flashing lights behind me, yes the police canaried me and said it looks like somethings dropped inside the motor, so I have to get the defect cleared and the engine number changed over by the local mechanic as I was running another RB30E in the car and refitting the original engine block back into the car. I was afraid that I blew the motor up but I asked people on the internet and I found out it was caused by the fact I put 1/2 a litre too much oil into the engine,yes,high revving multi valved engines HATE being overfilled with oil by even a few hundred mLs , I found that out from different people too. I still have the car under a cover but unregistered and the engine has about 200,000 kms on it since being rebuilt and still has good compression,I noticed it did burn some oil and I am thinking it may (not sure) be valve stem seals and was using oil last time I drove the car (about 1 litre per 5000 kms), one thing I found is the overflow tube that I modified was blocked up with sludge at the bottom elbow near the oil return near where the oil pan mates up to the engine block,I am looking at revising that (i.e. straightening the line out a bit). The oil was getting into the air filter,what I'm thinking is the oil wasn't making its way back down to the sump through the return line,it was getting sucked through the crankcase breather hose,into the inlet manifold then into the engine then out the exhaust pipe,it started to happen when the computer got water in it and shorted the injector driver for number 4 injector out and jamming it open,so the engine got washed out with fuel. Luckily the compression is still good so I think the sludge got washed into that elbow in the oil drain tube causing the blockage and a trip to the Japanese wreckers saw me end up with an injector for a Nissan SR20DE from an N15 Pulsar (same as RB25DE injector) which fixed the problem.

one massive advantage a 4 valve engine has is valve area to bore area, so it can move more air at lower lifts, so that means it can supply enough air for high rpm without having to resort to ultra high lifts and durations, that means more stability, as not many people know that its the valve train stability that lets a motor turn ultra high rpm,

eh, kinda. The problem with the higher lifts needed in pushrod motors for high RPM operation is that valvesprings not designed for it can't cope with the rapid cycling. They either never fully close, and float or they bind up and never give you the specified opening. But these can be addressed with correct components and camshafts that offer the duration required to get high RPMs. GM did it with the DZ302 which would give you 7000 rpm from the factory...in the 1960s! Today, the LS motors, especially the LS7, have no trouble turning 7000 from the factory. 8000 or more is no issue with proper preparation. We just don't see it from the factory because displacement is how it makes its power. It's not valvetrain stability so much as its proper component selection. You need high enough lift to make it worthwhile but not so high that you screw yourself in geometry. You need enough duration to actually fill the chambers to push the motor that fast. You need springs that can handle the rapid cycling and light valves. Oh, and plenty of oil pressure to keep it all from welding itself into a solid mess.

Mike McKeen my 2cent? VK56DE IN INFINITI/maybe in titan cams are micro polish, titanium vavlespring,ngk iridium spark plugs go for 100,000miles,@$21- each only get them at the dealerships or napa for $23+tax,water pump seal is stainless steel metal...$27+ napa only had one....took over 30 min to find in there wherehouse...so...111,000miles pre-order plugs...demand was so low($12+tax...each year gets it own plug!lug nut was $20!motor is what we call bulletpoof?just saying...from girl point of view...sodium vavles,intake tech from gtr.VK56DE/VK56VR??THINK?

I have no idea what you're talking about. Are you saying that the VK motors employ fancy things like sodium filled valves and titanium valve gear? That may be true, but its far from unique. The LS7 motor from GM used sodium filled valve stems and titanium connecting rods more than 10 years ago.

On the vk56, can you get to the internal oil pressure relief valve without pulling the timing cover? Can it be accessed by just dropping the top oil pan and unscrewing the pressure relief valve from under the motor?
