All I'm going to say, is until you've watched a sprint car race, and smelled the air. You haven't lived. It's such a sweet and perfect smell
@jimstorjohann13343 жыл бұрын
I know the smell.
@seancoats12413 жыл бұрын
Yes that is my favorite sound and smell but have you ever been in the pits at top fuel drag event when they start the engine to test it? The Nitro fuel will bring you to snot and tears. One of the best experiences of my life 😂 my buddys dad came up to me a was like "do you want your face to melt off" and was like lol fuck yea

Pretty interesting. Here in the US we don't get to see a ton of the V8 Supercars and I have never seen their engines before. Cool.....

Both amazing engineering in their own ways. Building 630hp is no big deal these days but doing it under 7500rpm and with 5.0L while having plenty of torque at least in the mids up on an NA engine is very difficult. Clever people.
@ZacLowing5 жыл бұрын
@jonny j I've been thinking the same, materials tell the limit, the rest is to fit it the best you can all under that limit. Now, if you just raise the material limits to lets say, and it can take the stress 50,000 rpm, think of how small and light the rest could be for the same power. Materials science really pays off!

Don't forget they have to run on pump fuel, a series control camshaft and 10.5:1 CR, as well as last for lot more than one race.

You should do a video on the SM Motorsports turbo 202 carby torana daily driver. Steve Josiah extracts 500rwhp and 800ib/ft of torque. 175mph theough the chase with 13inch diameter rims. It’s just a nice car to drive.

Next video should be how one would manage to get that sprint motor into a road car like, hmmm my 180sx?

Not to too my horn, what I learned from racing mowers did get put in to my street cars and the drag cars. One has to crawl so he can walk and walk before he can run. Coatings were a cheap boomtown for me and easy to order. Now I have have to send the parts to some place and pay$$$ to have these parts prepared and coated... 😒. Help!!!
@daffy_663210 жыл бұрын
I bet KRE could do a V8 Supercar motor for the same price as a sprint car motor using generic parts from the USA and be lighter as well. Who cares if the whole grid had the same motor, an alloy block V8 would sound awesome.
@LS2MGB7 жыл бұрын
Would sound exactly the same as a cast iron block. What the block is made out of won't change the sound.

I notice the V8 touring car engine has a cast iron block and an ENGINE NUMBER PAD front left, sounds stupid but is that a GM BowTie Sportsman Block that GM sells over the counter in the U,S for around $3500 bare. Dart and Brodix Cast iron Blocks are only $1750 U.S and i doubt if they use these.
@timjohnun42972 жыл бұрын
I thought I had figured out what block and heads they were using but apparently they use castings that are unique to supercars, and I'm told are basically Ford Windsor clones. I can't get anyone to confirm it, but if true, supercars are an even bigger joke than I first thought.

Oringinaly sprintcars ran Chev iron block engines 360 cubic inches iron block chevy motor called a smal block .410 cubic inches is from a big block Chev engine.But now block is alloy but cubic inches based on oringinal Chev motor

they must be running a cartel there with those engines, 120k for a pretty much standardised 5l v8 making so little power and basically no exotic parts in it, CNC machining isn't that expensive these days so the "custom" isn't nearly as rare as it used to be
@Hapkido82AUS6 жыл бұрын
jz1199 They are more like 600 hp at the wheels. They always down play the engine HP level. Whats more impressive is 530+ ftlbs of torque, which nails you to the seat all the way past 200kph. Go for a ride in one, they are very impressive 😉
@72troy4555 жыл бұрын
120K will buy alot of horsepower.

Think about how reliable they are, the torque they get in the midrange and how efficient they are for what they are
@justinmilby45525 жыл бұрын
Yea super car engines don't make power for few seconds they do it for long periods of time and the downshifting and upshifting means these engines are super reliable under extreme conditions for long periods of time. Sprint or dirt car stuff is like drag racing ur not shifting like road racing and ur constantly spinning and trying to control it. 120k because of the reliability of the components in that engine I believe. 60 for Sprint cause it wouldn't last long in super v8 car its not built for endurance of that level
@VicinalElk441044 жыл бұрын
@@justinmilby4552 Dirt track racing, you're constantly damn near at redline if not on redline, only letting out slightly to start the turns. It's not like drag racing, where you're only in it for 10 seconds on average. They're running constantly at or near redline for long durations. Upshifting and downshifting a supercar doesn't mean shit to be fair. No offense to your beliefs. I could to the same in my mom's Camaro, which produces about as much to the wheels as the supercar does, and still be able to live for almost 200k miles. And guess what? When it breaks, I can spend so much less money to get an engine replaced for it and be on my merry way. Super car engines don't need to be as expensive as they are. They really don't. They're made from the same materials as most other decently priced engines in performance cars from other companies. Sure, they're hand assembled, but to be fair, a lot of higher performance engines from cheaper cars are hand assembled too. There's really no leg left to stand on to be honest.

cmsracing I'm not sure what you meant. My Sure anyone can build 600-650hp even NA with 5 litres for 10-15k but will it make that under 7500, pull out of corners and sit on 5000-7500 all day without failure and using more fuel than your competitor. I recall races where half a litre of fuel won or lost the race.

ummm... I have NEVER seen a sprintcar do a two lap qualify - even for a national championship. Ive seen qualifying over races - points from the first two sets your grid position in the feature... if you make it to the feature... and thats about it.

880 hp for $55,000 and $650 hp for $120,000. That’s why V8 supercar regulations are so stupid. V8 supercar costs are ridiculous, imagine V8 supercars going to a Dart block and heads and a 4 barrel injector body, you could save a fortune in engine alone
@ProfessorIgor Жыл бұрын
A 410 sprint car engine isn't going to live through a 2 hour race.
