Crimson Trace CTS-1550 Update

I just upgraded my SCCY red dot to a cts1550. The cts1500 that came with the pistol would fade out in bright sunlight. CT has excellent sights for a good price.

I got one from PSA a couple months ago. First handgun red dot I've owned and carried (put on a Shield Plus). I loved the idea that it has cowitness with the factory sights out of the box. There are some negative review of this red dot so we'll just have to see how it holds up long term, whether it maintains zero, doesn't break, if it fails in rain/harsher conditions, but for $70 it seemed like a no brainer. I've also heard Crimson Trace support on it has been great and send new units out for failed ones very quickly. If it proves to be not so great down the road, I'll consider going to a Vortex Defender.

I got 700 rounds through it with no screws coming loose and no loss/shift of zero. On a snappy little 9mm. I’ve also had a Vortex Venom and two Burris Fastfire II red dots and I had no issues with those on 9mm and 10mm pistols.

Crimson Trace has great customer service and you're going to need it I have three of these and only one works on my shield Plus one doesn't work at all and the other one shoots Way to high and cannot adjust it ended up putting Holosun on 507 on M&P compact and I am still using the crimson trace on my shield Plus planning on replacing it with a holosun all three of them are less than a year old. Two came with the guns the third one was a replacement

Honestly not surprised given the price point. Going to be a lot of quality control issues. But mine is holding up just fine after a number of range trips. And if it fails, I have co-witnessed iron sights.

Just got mines from PSA can’t wait for it to come in thanks for the review! I don’t know why people are acting like you said it’s better than the big name brands when it’s simply a great budget option

You do realize you don't have to use (and shouldn't be using) the red dot at a target 10 feet away. You just point shoot with your offhand thumb (if you are gripping a semi auto the way most people are taught these days) or you quickly acquire the front sight (which you can see through the dot's lens). The dot is for if you need to go all Dicken drill on someone 40 yards away, and the dot really helps when you have a 3" barrel microcompact.

The CT red dot is not waterproof at all. Any water on it , it will stop working !!

Just started getting into red dots, I just don’t see myself giving 5 out of 5 to something that has zero ability to adjust brightness and or has a all ways on feature over a shake awake not to mention a single peace of glass… but anyways what do I know probably is a 5 out of 5…

I had a SIG with a shake awake and it eventually started to not be reliable in that feature; I haven’t needed to change the battery here. And I’ve shot this in doors and out and in bright sun and near dusk and in rain and the brightness has always adjusted properly. I’ve also racked it off a table and such; no issues. And single piece of glass keeps it lightweight and small. Would I take this over a Trijicon? No. Would I put this on a gun that doesn’t have co witnessed irons? Probs not. But this is a third the price. So, 5/5 taking into account price and purpose.

Yea, both have been perfect. Probably 300 rounds on the one and 200 rounds on the other at this point. Haven’t lost zero. Bright as ever.

It’s useless. My shield came with this sight and I hate it. I bought the shield for concealment. I carry one in the chamber, to have an advantage; hope I never have to use it. But if I had to pull my gun out, first I have to remove the cap of the red dot to be able to aim. Makes no sense. Also it’s easy to lose it because it keeps falling off. Holosun is the way.

The adjustment clicks aren’t very audible or tactile, so it was a little difficult to get it perfect, but we are talking 10-50 yards with Minute of Man at 100 yards, so it isn’t too bad.

Crap rds.. Holosun or Primary Arms classic rmsc are much more robust.
