Fuzzy Barbarian you know for all of Linkara's complaints about how the New52 screwed up the Teen Titans, at least the Titans are still relevant to casual comic fans (thanks to Wolvman's run and the 2000s cartoon show). Us Legion fans had it worse I tell ya.

@Fuzzy_Barbarian7 жыл бұрын
Hell, there's kinda actually four Legions... and depending on how the retcon in the last issue of their most recent ongoing works out, possibly five... and the Rebirth Legion so far seems to be a new Legion too... ugh. Though to be fair, the second reboot (the Threeboot) wasn't at all necessary, since continuity wasn't an issue with the Reboot Legion. Then the third reboot (the Retroboot) seemed to exist purely for nostalgia's sake (that and most people hated the Threeboot), but continuity, again, wasn't an issue. The Rebirth Region (which I like to call the ReLegion) at least makes sense from a continuity standpoint after the Retroboot screwed itself. While I like the Reboot Legion best and it would've never existed without the original Legion getting screwed, it's just insanely uninviting to new readers. And all because of the Superboy thing, a retcon I don't even dislike.

True, while he's back and celebrated so much now, godspeed Barry Allen... Godspeed. *salute* I was introduced to The Flash via the Justice League series... I didn't think much of Wally West, or the Flash in general, because I was, as typical of those of my age back then, a die-hard fan of Batman. Then I saw the episode taking place in Central City, when he was actually talking down The Trickster instead of just having another brawl with the villain. Then when Wally West, the Flash, nearly killed himself to defeat the union of Luthor and Brainiac. It's easy to say that almost overnight, The Flash became my favorite DC superhero, more so when I began to properly learn the history of Barry Allen, Eobard Thawne, Wally West, and so on. The Scarlet Speedster, the hero of Central City... and with Barry's (temporary) death in this very event, a hero to the universe. So, I guess... Thank you for shedding more history for us, Lewis. Thank you, because I have no local access to comics, and you showed us just how Wally West came to take up the mantle.

You know, it's... Actually kind of sad, to see what they did with Superboy Prime I mean, come the end of this series, the kid went to hell and back with the other heroes, to the dawn of time and back, fighting the Anti-Monitor in his home turf alongside the original Superman, and at the end of it all, even if he knows he'll die... He's okay with it. Because he did what Superman is meant for: to protect and save everyone. And then they went and just... Shat all over it. Made him a massive "Fuck You" incarnate to DC fans who made complaints about the company, and in the end... Made him more known as a despicable villain, than the true hero he could have been. The fallout of this event comic can still be felt today: the consequence of having too many characters to work with can be dire. You end up losing track of every participant of that story, so the solution is to read the previous issue's summary. In fact, many of today's shows and comics still refrence this major event, with their own spin on it.

To answer the end-of-credits question... maybe the Monitor knew the future while the Anti-Monitor didn't because the Monitor actually looked for it? I mean, the Monitor actually studied universes to learn from them, right? While the Anti-Monitor just wanted to conquer and destroy and so forth? So if the Anti-Monitor had done the research, he could have gotten future knowledge too, but he was too busy smashing things to realize it.

Implying that their real last name is incredibly stupid? Also, what incontrovertible proof do you have that people remembered it being spelled differently simply because "our brains reject the idea they did something that dumb?"
@Foxpawed7 жыл бұрын
Aside from the standard "because of all of the physical evidence that shows it was spelled that way", which is not 'incontrovertible' if you choose to believe in multiverses being a legitimate thing along the lines of the whole 'you can't prove God does or does not exist' game, occam's razor. Its a simple, logical explanation; Human names commonly end in -stein, but for some baffling reason, the creators spelled it -stain instead. For most people, they were books they haven't read since childhood, which likely means most of their experience with them was having the book read TO them, and there's very little phonetic difference between the two spellings.

Stories like this, about several dozen worlds and timelines. About thousands of heroes coming together, that's something I love. It may sound rather silly, but this kinda idea is one I always dream of making come true. To create dozens of stories, characters, and worlds. And attempt to then make a big story that can reach the same level of amazement as Crisis on Infinite Earths. That is a goal and reality I would want to make come true, no matter how impossible it sounds to some. I'm 19 years old and have a lot of ideas in this head. I want to tell all of them, then bring them together to star in a ginormous event on the same level as this story. Like I said, rather silly. But a guy can dream. ^ ^''

I didn't get super into DC until after I discovered Batman the Animated Series and became curious about some of the characters on the show. "Crisis" was one of the first DC books I read during this formative period, and I had enormous fun with it. The art was fantastic, the story an epic yet ultimately simple "good vs. evil" battle to end all battles, and the idea of all these characters gathering together for a great big hootenanny of a giant SF war was a real treat to a kid who had only ever dipped his toes into superhero tales via "Essential Fantastic Four." (Shouldn't Galactus' first appearance be considered an "event?") Even better, I now had a whole heap of classic characters and stories to catch up with, which I have been doing with the "Showcase Presents" line, a never-ending supply of adventure and heroism that makes the original "Crisis" even more colossal in my mind. And yes, that Alex Ross cover sold me instantly on the whole concept from minute one!

This was the first comic I read in a serious attempt to get into the medium and it pretty much came about by accident. I was big into DnD and MtG back in the mid 90s, my parents would always grab me the newest issue of InQuest (the CCG monthly book) and one time they accidentally picked up a copy of Wizard. Being like 13 and willing to read damn near anything put in front of me I consumed it cover to cover and was specifically interested in the announcement of this version of the trade and how important it was to comic history. A few months later grabbed a copy at the local bookstore and fell hard into the hobby. I might have slowed down over the years but I still revisit and absolutely adore the medium as a whole.

It's actually a little sad that the Titans and Legion couldn't have a bigger part in this due to the way they were being published at the time. For those who don't know, DC launched what they called a Prestige line, that would be sole only at comic book shops. They were printed on better paper and used more advance coloring methods. They relaunched The New Teen Titans and Legion of Superheroes in this format with new #1's. The existing titles, sold at newstands, supermarkets, etc. were not cancelled. They were retitled Tales of the Teen Titans and Tales of the Legion of Superheroes. They continued to print new material for 12 issues and then started reprinting the Prestige issues. This means that the comic that was most widely available and visible on racks beside Crisis on Infinite Earths was a year old story. There was no real way to cover Crisis in those books very well because one set of fans or the other would be left out. That's why in Crisis, Dick Grayson and Starfire leave Earth seemingly randomly and are not present for the final fight. Its mostly a shame for the Legion since they never really recovered from what Crisis did to its history since it was tied directly to Superboy. They've tried reinserting young Superman into the story, but their popularity never recovered and they keep getting rebooted.

I realised Infinite Crisis would've been interesting if PSYCHO PIRATE was one of, if not THE, big bad of Infinite Crisis. He remembers the events of the Crisis on Infinite Earths, he's driven mad by what he remembers AND his addiction to feeding on emotions, and he even briefly worked directly UNDER the Anti-Monitor himself, so I could see a way to finagle him being the big bad. Better than having him serve a minor role only to be killed off gruesomely.

As I remember, the Superboy that inspired the Legion of Superheroes was the one from a pocket universe created by a Legion villain (who turned out to be a Legion member from the future). Also, why does Killer Frost have the hots for Firestorm? Does she want to suck his life? Because last time I saw them before Crisis, she hated him.

While Crisis on Infinite Earths has problems in terms of structure and a dated writing style, I think what it does best is celebrate what came before while paving the way for the future. Through it all, everyone in the DCU was an active agent, fighting against this grand threat to all of reality. It's why, despite still having never finished it, I can appreciate what it did. Compare that to Flashpoint... yeah, I'm still bitter!

While it wasn't as good his original incarnation, it *did* expand on New God lore. 3. I'm kind of disappointed Kimiyo Hoshi (The Good Dr Light) hasn't had a bigger role in DC stories. She was given her powers by the Monitor for some reason. You'd think she'd be doing more stuff. 4. I hope you cover DC's Millennium for a future Event Comics Month, since it also doubles as the origin story for the New Guardians.

My only big complaint about this story is all the character death in the second half. Like the deaths of the Earth 3 characters, the Flash, and Supergirl are all great. But so many characters die unceremoniously in that final battle. I have a hard time seeing past it. Also people used to claim that Lord of the Rings or Watchmen was un-filmable? I'm glad I recently took the time to read this story myself - it's a fantastic story and at this point is really the only blockbuster crossover event that I've really enjoyed so far (keeping in mind that my experience with massive crossovers is pretty limited and mostly includes the more recent stuff like Ultimatum and Flashpoint). Rebirth is next on my list, given I've heard some great things about it and I've already read some post-Rebirth material that I really like. I'm also really happy to see that DC is reaching back and re-publishing classic stories for many more of its characters - the Flash in particular, with Mark Waid's acclaimed run on Wally West currently being reprinted in a new series of TPBs. Given how Crisis on Infinite Earths is the story that sees Wally pick up the torch from Barry, it feels appropriate that I should check it out rather soon after having read this.

Superman was not rebooted by johb Byrne till months later making the stories that appeared after crisis pointles. No one knew what was and wasn't canon. I think this what they tried not to repeat with the new 52 but even that was botched.

Actually My Hero Academia handles heroes better then the CW shows right now IMO. One of the purposes of the show is asking what makes a hero? And more importantly, it’s already a world that’s so full of heroes that you really do need to find a way to stand above the rest in a unique way.
@Drakespawn856 жыл бұрын
Sooo... fast forward a year and a half from this review and The Flash dropped a pretty big hint that yes, the much derided CW shows apparently ARE planning to do Crisis somewhere down the line and not treat the "Red Skies Crisis" as a mere easteregg anymore. (I just hope we don't actually have to wait until 2024 for it to happen) And this is while there's rumors of a complete reboot of the big-budget DCEU on the horizon. Let me reiterate: The low budget TV-shows at this point have an actual chance to do their own Infinity-War-scale crossover event, while the movies barely got the Justice League together before everything fell apart (and the latter are rumored to start the reboot with a *villain movie*, just to show off how they didn't understand what went wrong the first time). Can everyone finally understand why people like me, despite all its obvious flaws, still prefer the Arrowverse to the DCEU?

The thing with the Legion of Super-Heroes is that at this point they operate independently of the DC universe, because when they tried reacting to universe shaping events it didn't work out for anyone. Basically after this the Legion kept on keeping on, but Superboy and Supergirl were replaced retroactively with suspiciously similar substitutes, they they were rebooted fully after zero hour. Then they were rebooted a second time for reasons I do not know before the Legion of Three Worlds event brought back the original legion which is who we have now (even after the new 52 reboot) so based on that they dawnstar in this and in the culling should be the same person...The legion is a mess.
