Your channel gave me the courage and mental tools to tackle my first travel assignment, I took a crisis assignment in CA for 13 weeks. I can't believe the money that is thrown around, but it's also really cool to be so helpful during a time of need. Great video, be safe out there

While we were managing a rv Park, we meet several traveling nurses. Probably a handful of them hired a service to move their rvs from assignment to assignment.

We have heard of that. I've always wondered how much a service like that costs. Maybe cheaper than buying a big truck!

I am a traveling CNA, I am on my 4th contract and finding my own housing (taking the stipend) although I work in nursing homes it has been very interesting to say the least. I am in the south now for the rest of the winter. By spring I plan on buying a school bus and converting it. Switching to a traveling CNA is the best decision I’ve made in a long time.

Where you go depends on where you get you reciprocity’s. You do have apply for reciprocity in the different states you want to go. Just contact that’s states nurse aide registry and look for the forms. Some state are free to apply for and some cost money. Remember you will be paying taxes in each state you work in. And you need to get there on your own. Most companies do not give advances to get you from point A to point B. My reciprocity’s are from Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Iowa, and eventually Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska North and South Dakota. That way I can kind flow with the weather.

I've heard of people being unfriendly, but I'm in a hospital in Florida that lost over half of their respiratory therapists and they are VERY glad to see us! The hospital is offering regular staff crisis pay over their standard pay which helps as well. The orientation was 2 days for 5 ICU's, lol. Yep, hit the ground running. I"m an RT but it's the same with nursing

Great information my current contract is different than any other but it’s not crisis however they had me do all the modules and training online before I get there it’s been crazy and I’m not compensated because they only will give me 175 dollars for over 15 hrs of training. I also went with Atlas MedStaff for this one and I’m impressed but I haven’t even started yet! My recruiter got us an RV park because I couldn’t find any near the hospital in Florida because they don’t want anyone less than 55 or are already booked out or will not take more than two dogs. This greatly limited us. I’m Labor and Delivery however not getting nearly that pay however it’s better than nothing so I’m thankful however I did ask for increased pay because of all the rates that are increasing everywhere. Praying for you all and myself

Fastaff isn't necessarily a true crisis emergency relief organization. They do segment their contract dispute under another umbrella, US Nursing. Fastaff does, however, fill immediate needs (rapid response) in less demanding areas. This is why they tend to pay more than other travel agencies. But, for the most part, they have been traditionally a nurse travel company that finds talent quickly. They also don't typically use tax free (tax advantage) compensation packages..again providing higher W2 rates. A "crisis" agency is a newer phenomenon as their business model depends on the the longevity of the "crisis". This year, it seems like every agency has a crisis leg and will do their darndest to attract nurses with higher payrates. Since the inception of Covid-19, two of the major players in the critical response world have been Krucial and Angels staffing. Others agencies have been exclusive in certain markets along the way, when FEMA and state monies came pouring in (Favorite, NuWest and Maxim) come to mind. But overall, they are a typical 13 week staffing agency. Other big players in the travel world (Cross Country, AMN, Aya, Atlas Med Staff) have massive overheads due to their advertising and fixed costs that they rely on quantity of placements with their large recruitment pools. This would land a prospective travel nurse into a smaller compensation package but may get them in a specific hospital or region of the country. Fastaff is a reliable company (now) as they had class actions against them years ago for not paying their nurses appropriate logged hours when on assignment. I was one of them. But they are also not competitive as of currently (Dec 2020) with the highest paying gigs in the continental US. Many others are more lucrative...two of which I already mentioned.
@NoOrdinaryPath
@NoOrdinaryPath 4 жыл бұрын
Interesting comment. I suppose I'm taking "Rapid Response" and equating it to "crisis." After all Fastaff's website has this to say: "As the pioneer and industry leader in Rapid Response® nurse staffing, Fastaff is dedicated to providing our travel nurses with premier assignments at prestigious hospitals nationwide." Their name has long been synonymous with high -paying fast-recruiting jobs. Perhaps they are not the highest but I wonder if overall their pay packages are at least in the upper crust offered.

Wife is a NICU RN and I am a Spinal Cord RN in SoCal. What is your usual time off between contracts? Do hospitals ever request you personally due to past experiences? Do you only work RN compact states? Does the housing stipend usually cover costs? Or would you be better off in their apartment? Just found you guys and have been binge watching! Thanks for the info!
@NoOrdinaryPath
@NoOrdinaryPath 3 жыл бұрын
Great questions here! My time between contracts varies, it depends on circumstances but can be as short or as long as you wish. I've taken as short as 2 weeks to as long as 5 months. Yes, managers from past assignments text me regularly asking me to come back. If you work hard and they are impressed with you you can get contracts that aren't even posted. I have worked in areas like Washington and Alaska which are not part of the compact but it is a lot easier to stay within it. Typically, the housing stipend covers WAY more than the cost of housing - but keep in mind we RV and own it outright. Only a few types of agencies require you to sign up with their housing. Typically you choose your own and can find them on places like furnished finder or Airbnb. Generally, this is more expensive than I have seen versus RVs. Glad you're here!

Are these sky high contracts for undergraduate registered nurses or are these for graduate level nurses such as nurse practitioners?

In this current climate, with the covid waves, most of these contracts are for undergraduate RNs. There are NP travel positions to be found but not as many and surprisingly not often high paying.

Where do we get the order for a drug test? Does that come from the specific agency? Or do you just have your primary care doctor order one for you as you upload those results?
@NoOrdinaryPath
@NoOrdinaryPath 3 жыл бұрын
The drug test is ordered through the agency your contracting with as requested by the hospital you'll be working for. Typically urine but I've had a couple of hospitals request blood tests. Good question.
