I’ve had 8 to 10 contracts over the years (I only travel 6 months out of the year). I’ve always had a different company for each contract except for one company where I have done two contracts with them. It wasn’t because the companies were bad or anything, I just go with whatever company that can get me to where I want to go for how much I want to get. You have to be your own boss and “stick up for yourself.” Compression sock save my legs, good tip for people.

As my 25 year career as a paramedic comes to a close soon I’m thinking about traveling as well. I’m also a nurse that works ER at my local hospital. I’ve actually done a travel nurse gig. Long story on that one, anyway. I’ve talked to several travelers and they all told me the same thing.... work with at least three different agencies and take the best deal at the place you wanna go to. And make sure each company knows your working other agencies because that may get you more money and a better deal. Recruiters work on commissions and the more nurses they place the more they make to... another traveler told me that as advice before I started

The video is very informative and you gave me a perspective of the issues that travel nurses may encounter and how to resolve them. I've recently signed my first local travel nurse contract and have yet to start the job. I was reluctant leaving my permanent, stable job where I have a good reputation. I've made my concern known. The recruiter connected me with the president of the company and gave me two references to contact and get their opinion of how their experience has been like working for the agency. That put me at ease.

On orientation I didn’t get on boarded well and I did not check one box and when the new year changed I didn’t have health insurance and I didn’t know about it. I then broke my wrist. Well the company did not do anything to help me and now I have an $8000 ER bill that I cannot pay. Needless to say I am looking for another recruiter right now I have to finish this contract out. So make sure you get on boarded correctly and if people are too busy to on board you don’t do the paperworkUntil someone sits down with you and helps you. That’s my two cents.

Call up the hospital and work it up as a self-pay. They'll want to verify your income so give them a copy of your w2 that doesn't show your stipends. You'll likely qualify for significant financial aid and a large knockdown of the bill.

I'm an experience RN that has had an eclectic background but love critical care/emergency medicine. I've been away from bedside nursing for several year while I was in another avenue of nursing but I really want to get back to my roots and become a Travel RN as I always wanted to but had to put on hold due to family. Glad I watched this video but I still don't know which way to turn. Would also love to travel with an RV.
