Winn-Dixie used to carry Fisherman’s Wharf brand that was really good. I’ve tried other brands but they taste “soapy” to me. I mix this with a small sized pasta, red & yellow bell peppers, celery, onions & mayonnaise. I dice the veggies small, around a 1/4 to 1/2 inch pieces and layer them on multiple paper towels to drain overnight in the fridge. If that step is skipped, all the juices release after it all put together and it looks awful & gets watered down… Basically a glorified macaroni salad. One pound of elbows or other small pasta to 2 pounds of faux crab meat.

I always thought imitation crab was real crab. My mom always adds it to her ceviche. It’s so good.

I always did this in my air fryer because i dont need to use tons of oil especially for new year snack. I also dont use any seasoning because the filaments are already seasoned (in my country you can just lightly blanch it and eat it like that). Sometime to make it more festive we will sprinkle salted egg powder (dont forget to air fried curry leaves too) on the air fried filaments nyummmm

In Poland we don't widely call these "imitation crab" I don't think, just crab sticks or surimi. I think some people aren't aware it's not real crab lol My mom liked to make fake noodles out of it, if you overcook it it falls apart into strings. Pretty good for soup. Also yeah sushi with imitation crab is still sushi. What makes sushi is the rice, not whether it has raw fish or not.

I think the Asians would disagree on that statement about sushi.
