This was just what I'd been looking for. I had one of these crunchy bowls with shrimps, grits, and gouda cheese. MMMMM that was delicious. I wanted to make my own take on it and didn't know who to make the shell. I have 2 baking type bowls that looks just like the bowls here. Except, the technique may be shorter if I pressed them in the bowls and just throw them in the oven. Well thanks for this video. I have a little homework to do here now...lol

Yum. Since you were talking about filler, would it be nice if you sprinkle some cinnamon and sugar immediately after they come out of the oven, and have two scoops of ice cream in them and drizzle some chocolate and caramel sauce on them with a touch of Marshmellow on the top? I know, I know, I am being bad. but that is what I was thinking in my head, LOL.

As long as you make it yourself it's fine. The "avocado toast" comment was about spending a small fortune on it in a restaurant/cafe/bistro, and millenials definitely have a stupid habit of doing that. Same goes for those five-dollar cups of coffee.

Thanks for the very helpful tips. Been wanting to make some taco salad but no way to deep fry a tortilla. Tortilla bowl is now less greasy which translates to healthier bowl than the usual oily ones. And plus, there should be more oomph to its crunchiness by baking it.

Avocado toast!? I didn't know Chef John was a millennial unable to buy a house!
@jamesdooling41397 жыл бұрын
Andrew McMillan Avocados have become the sigil of that generation. Too bad they don't live near my trees. I have three of differing varieties which were planted by my grandfather. I can hardly get rid of them all before they drop to the ground for the birds and bugs. There's more than enough for avocado toast AND a mortgage payment...

I have always been leery of trying the corn fungus. How would you describe the texture, and taste compared to other mushrooms? I love mushrooms, and try to fit them into every dish, but something about a crop-destroying fungus really makes me think twice about wanting to eat it.
@ChefRafi7 жыл бұрын
Blueshirt it's more like a truffle than a mushroom. Very yummy!! You must try it. I make Stew out of it (in my Nahuatl video).
@sminstudios7 жыл бұрын
It's puffy but denser than a mushroom... tangy (like, "I don't remember putting lime on this") and, well, truffle-y, but with a recognizable undertone of corn. I put mine on a melt with a couple of kinds of cheese. Would do again but you have to sacrifice some corn plants and endanger the rest. :O
