Instead of brushing it with oil, you can use a stabby tool to poke lots of holes on the skin, and the pork fat slips through the hole to fry up the skin
@shaymin339884 ай бұрын
honestly brushing it with oil just sounds so much easier lol
@DaoistReader4 ай бұрын
@@shaymin33988Yes it’s easier but when have the easiest things been the best? Poking holes is better because it actually crisps the entire skin through. Where as just oiling it will only fry the surface but leave a more chewy skin underneath. BUT if you’re pinched on time then just oil it up, otherwise id definitely poke some holes. PS: remember to use lots of salt on the skin before doing either method.
@DaoistReader4 ай бұрын
@@shaymin33988 Oil also makes it taste much greasier than poking holes. Sometimes i kinda like the fast food taste but usually i just take the extra 3-5 minutes to poke holes for the optimal results. Conclusion: Poking holes is for the best results. Using oil is for a quicker process with a slightly lower result.
@shaymin339884 ай бұрын
@@DaoistReader thank you for that information! i figured they would both give the same result, but i can see why the poking method would allow for a crispier skin. that chewy skin you mentioned is actually something that turns me away from some crispy pork, so i’m glad to know what contributes to it. your comment will remind me to not cut corners for when i finally attempt to make this dish 😄

I’ve made this more than a few times in an air fryer. I can say with absolute certainty that it comes out great. The problem lies with all the fat splatter that hits the heating element & coats the inside of the unit so heavily. This leads to heavy smoking during the cook & also during future uses.

The air convection and placement are perfect for the skin and a sign it's completely done. Marco Pierre White Method, flawless. Not a fan oven? 140C, no bones? Add some stock to the bottom of the tray or pan. No need for salt and loads of steps. Just fry the skin and bottom of the oven.

Thai = 500g pork belly (with skin) • 1 tablespoon salt • 1 tablespoon white vinegar • Water (for boiling) Instructions: 1. Boil the pork belly: • Place the pork belly in a pot and cover it with water. Bring it to a boil and let it cook for about 30 minutes, until the pork is tender but not falling apart. • Remove the pork and let it cool slightly. Pat it dry with paper towels. 2. Prepare the skin: • Once the pork has cooled down, use a fork or skewer to poke holes all over the pork skin. This will help make it crispy. • Rub salt evenly over the skin and drizzle the vinegar over it. Let the pork sit for about 1 hour to allow the skin to dry out. 3. Roast the pork: • Preheat your oven to 200°C (390°F). • Place the pork belly on a wire rack
